Of course there are conflicts between marginalised groups. Did anyone suggest that the less-powerful always automatically unite in a giant rainbow alliance?

There seems to be such a thing as a specifically African-American flavour of Anti-Semitism, for example. Not _that_ hard to see how that might come about, given the traditional roles and positions of black people and Jewish people in the US system (not roles freely chosen by those groups voluntarily, either, to a large degree ones they've been pushed into). Same probably arises between numerous other groups.

Here I see cases where incoming white East Europeans and long-settled (South) Asians have come into conflict, or in one area there's known to be a lot of friction between the local Muslim community and Travellers/Romani.

And all the while the wealthy white people at the top are laughing all the way to the bank. "Divide and rule" has been an effective tactic for elites for thousands of years. It doesn't even have to be a conscious strategy, often it just works out that way.

So you're claiming the vast majority of these attackers who are "Blacks" in big liberal cities that hates Trump(NY, LA, SF, Oakland) are doing so because of Trump?

Well, yes. That's obviously a factor, that feeds in to whatever existing tensions there are - plus that damn virus, which seems to benefit from humans' inability to show solidarity every bit as much as elite rich while people do. If viruses could laugh...

I see your point about marginalized people, it is an interesting theory, but not so much the wealthy white people. The wealthy whites here in California are some of the most liberal people in America. I once saw Al Sharpton even mocking them as 'Cafe sipping white liberals" on msnbc

This has me thinking back to the days of Linsanity, when initially several black NBA players made racial jokes at Lin(of course they all later apologized).
The Lin incidents weren't a surprise to me. It's from my own life experienced that I noticed that society largely crucifies racist behavior towards Blacks and Latinos but Asians were still fair game.

Now Elderly Asians are getting targeted by what appears to be predominately Black males. Don't write this off to just right wing Fox News propaganda etc...
Most elderly Asians I know (all over 70 and can barely speak English) are now extremely cautious around Blacks. Their news source are all Chinese and Vietnamese.
And I don't know why the media is trying to hard to hide this. Each one of these, when the perpetrator is black, there is no mention of the attackers race or even a picture in the vast majority of the news article.
The one case recently I can find in which a White Female scream some Anti-Asian racist rant, her face is splattered all over the article including the preview article link.

Wow, ok. This is nothing more than a divide and conquer strategy that the majority in power have been using for decades to stay in power. Please give up on this propaganda already. Some of the time, these crimes are just crime of opportunity and some people are just assholes but the media (left & right) make it out more than it is.

It's increasingly difficult to listen or read the news now a day because you have to draw out the facts from the opinions.

This thread just suffered a major backfire. Unfortunately it cost the lives of 8 Asian females. I've seen the picture of the killer. Yeah he looks pretty black.

I'm glad he was arrested instead of killing himself/killed by the cops.

Came to this thread late. Did not vote in poll because I have no information about the ethnic composition of people who attack elderly Asians and hence no basis for answering the poll. Checked youtube and ran the OP's search. There are a preponderance of references to a few incidents in Oakland and San Francisco. Probably because there happens to be video of the attacks. That is why they are on youtube to begin with. A youtube search turning up a few incidents is not a representative sampling of anything.

Incidents cited where people attack Asians spouting MAGA nonsense are also anecdotes and therefore have limited value. However, there has been a statistical spike in attacks against Asians since COVID, which brought with it disparaging remarks made by Trump. While correlation doesn't prove causation, it is evidence suggesting possible causation.

The ethnic composition of the attackers is a separate issue from motives. Someone earlier in the thread made a good point that 19% of black males voted for Trump. Regardless, we have no real information on the ethnicity of the attackers anyway. Anecdotes prove nothing.

I feel like puking in my mouth for even referring to this mugshot. And why is it that all of these bigoted racist assassins always look like this guy? That inbred look. The druggy face, the weird haircuts, the same depraved expression as if listening to too much Fox News? Are they all related? Has anyone checked their DNA? I bet they are all related and their mom's all named Karen.

On a personal note.... I will never understand bigotry or racism. Why in any community would everyone want to look like everyone else, exactly like one another? White, rednecked, with that shit-kicker stupid look on their face. Why? When I was a little kid in 3rd grade in an all white school living in an all white neighborhood, one of our teachers was replaced for the second half of the year. The substitute teacher was a lovely lady but had a very profound British accent. I fell in love with that accent. I realized right then that I loved diversity. I loved people being different from one another. If I had it my way, in my neighborhood, I would have black neighbors, hispanic neighbors, Asian neighbors, I would feel lucky if all of my neighbors were of different backgrounds and of different origin. So why a white guy would hate a black person or hate an Asian person or hate an hispanic person for any reason is totally incomprehensible to me. And I feel blessed that my gut instinct allows me to feel this way, and always has. I feel sorry for people that hate and for people that can't stand differences. I think back to 1963 when governor George Wallace blocked students Vivian Malone and James Hood from entering school, and while the white students looked on spitting and yelling obscenities. If I were there and a student, I'd thought it fantastic to have these two fellow students in my class. To learn about them, from them, and to learn with them. White, Black, Asian, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, what an incredible opportunity it would to be exposed to such diversity.

The white privilege is just oozing out.

I thought it was the white MAGA folks who were assaulting Asian Americans because trump started that "China virus" aka "kung flu" shit. At least that's what they are saying. What did I miss?

OP, you got some statistics to back up the twitter article?
what you're missing is that trump has a loud megaphone that doesn't have political boundaries. it's not as if democrats or blue states don't hear trump's message. 'china virus' was blasted all over the air waves.

oh look a moron comforting a moron. As I broke it down in my post above, you have to be clueless to just assume every black person in big cities don't like Trump.
The phenomenon is also there among Latinos in the USA. The proportion of Latino men who voted for Trump is far higher than for Latino women. It's the same for whites, resulting from the macho aspect, the warrior provider attitude that society instills in males that denies men the right to feel compassion.

I would think that the same psychological forces would influence men who have no political thoughts, no affiliations, who don't vote. There's no excusing the failure of the Republican Party to distance itself from racism.

The funniest part of this thread is that people here think the savages that attacked these innocent people voted or are affiliated with a political party.
So true. Very very likely they did not vote, weren't registered to vote. People who do those things are not conscientious citizens.

I looked at the poll and among the 3 choices I can't find one I agree with, so I did not participate.
