Look at Osama bin Laden's quotes prior to the attacks as well. It's clear he was not behind the attacks. If anything, he was more representative of the Founding Principles than the vast majority of Presidents have been. Unlike the modern liberals/neocons, Thomas Jefferson would never give billions in aid to foreign savages.

One must understand that AQ (as to my knowledge!) never was a highly organized organization with OBL commanding as a central figure and terrorists acting out on his commands.

This is especially true after 9/11 where it was highly impossible that a central "leader" like OBL would be always in good communication with his supporters...

But this also means that he could very well say "i was not behind those attacks"...while the single, sprawled out terrorists would still "work" supporting the overall AQ cause...but everyone doing this with their own motivation, not having received specific commands.

The question here is whether this is actually RELEVANT. Killing their leader would give AQ a blow, regardless whether OBL gave the actual command for 9/11 or not.

Short: Terrorists can indeed work "in the name of Al Quaeda" following loosely their leader's doctrines....WITHOUT him in fact "personally" responsible for the attacks. He could indeed appear and claim "i didn't know about it"...it could be true but nevertheless also irrelevant

They didn't care what would happen if no WMDs were found in Iraq did they? I don't doubt that OBL is dead. What I doubt is that he was killed in this mission. The US needed to make sure he was dead so they could stage a drama so that the America public could get closure and they could call the so called war a victory. To your point about burial at sea you are only partly correct. Islamic law also would permit burial at sea if there is risk of the body being exhumed. I think it's fair to argue there is some risk there given the party involved. Also permissible within traditions since no country seemed willing to receive the body. Who really wants THAT shrine in their back yard.

I honestly think Hayabuse Rider said it best in one of the other threads.

If the pics were released, would you believe them? No, you even imply no (in red) yourself. Releasing pics proves nothing. There is zero upside to releasing the pics for them.

You only need a cover story when you are faking something or hiding something or both. Special effects used to fool a family into thinking someone had been executed would take at least a few minutes to prepare, and they had to brief OBL on what to expect, if he wanted his family to leave there alive. That was the bargaining chip they had and used on him to get him to cooperate. They didn't want to release the pics of OBL because they looked fake and wouldn't hold up to detailed scrutiny, since the special effects were rushed, not because they were so gruesome. Of course, the real pics of the others killed were gruesome enough anyhow to try to convince other doubters just how gruesome they might be. Those other pics were released on purpose, as part of the cover story. That was no accident the beloved patriot's sold them to the press.

If you think there is any way they planned for months to take him alive, then executed him when they got him unarmed, then I really have nothing else to say about it to you. Your on your own in politically correct fantasy land.

And another thing, all this "he was reaching for his gun BS" is just that, because he had plenty of time to arm himself when he heard the copters flying into the compound and they were crashing on the way in, ect.
