Started running out of some things to watch and ended up taking up Schitt's Creek from Netflix recently.

It's a semi-entertaining show as long as you try to remember not to think during it and realize how dumb it is.

It's not dumb, though. It's one of the better sitcoms out there--it actually gets much, much better from season to season.

....I promise you will start to hate it though. You will accuse it of being "preachy" by season 3, lol.

^^ yea, you either cut costs or increase prices to drive shareholder value, that's how it works.

Which is something we as society have to stop just accepting. The elite continue to get rich while the rest of us get poor because everything keeps going up. Netflix is a bad example since it's not something you need to live, but every other company is doing it too. Hydro, natural gas, municipal taxes, water/sewer, insurance, food, gas for car, etc... A dollar here a dollar there per month, it adds up to a lot in the end.

I can live without netflix, but lack of utilities (in some instances even internet) makes modern living very difficult.

So yea, vote with your wallet, and play the stock market if you have spare cash.

Honestly, this was the most ignorant post I've seen in awhile. Great for a laugh.
Uhm, Ditto.

PS. I'm going to assume that you are an "ignorant American" (*).

About the pricing argument. I assume that you realize, Red Squirrel is Canadian, yes? Things coost more in Loonies than USD. If Netflix Premium is $18 USD (assuming that you're telling the truth there), then it's not so much of a stretch if they charge $20 CDN? Seems a bit much to call someone outright a "manipulator and liar" outright over it.

And while feminism many have afforded a woman the ability to work, the larger overall narrative is indeed due to US policies, and yes, indeed "inflation", the decision for both the man and woman in a family to work is largely driven by economics and necessity, not choice.

(*) Maybe I should substitute "privileged" instead.

All I see is lot of people bitching but not a single post saying they canceled. :D

Which is exactly the reason why Netflix raised the price. They know people will bend over and take it and ask for more.

Wasn't it you who canceled at the first price rise a few years back? I'm a cheap bastard and canceled Netflix a few years ago; it was no longer the fantastic bargain it used to be when content holders licensed their good stuff for dirt cheap because they had no idea how valuable streaming rights are.

Sorry, you're a straight up manipulator and liar. It never went from $8 to $20. "Its standard plan is now $14 a month, up $1 a month from last year. Its premium subscription will go up $2 to $18 a month. Its basic plan remains unchanged at $9 a month." Basic is $9 .It didn't go from $8 to $20. It's not even $20, at all. It's $18.

There are so many flaws in your argument that I'm totally not surprised that you blame people who make more money than you. The problem that you don't have money left over after paying your utilities? How about get a real job?

Sure, feel free to compare the ability of women to stay at home or work vs. decades ago. You're too stupid to realize that the Feminism and the women's movement totally changed the their ability/want to stay at home and let the husband work.

Plus, even despite your lack of mathematics, understand economy, and women's rights, you're too stupid to even understand you're apparently too poor to afford this LUXURY. Netflix isn't a requirement. I know you feel those very nice utilities are "required", but the fact that you are comparing Netflix to necessities (at least in theory) that they are the same, LOL.

"Go back a few decades ago", it's the most ridiculous argument!. Do you also complain that a coke cost $0.5 vs over a $1 today??? I bet you also complain that you cant get a Porsche for a few thousand vs. $100k. Am I right?

Honestly, this was the most ignorant post I've seen in awhile. Great for a laugh.

FYI: You don't have to retire late if you learn to earn money, invest in a 401K, save and choose good investments. This doesn't just happen on it's on. If you;'re not able to do that, I completely understand. But, guess what? Your dumb ass shouldn't be complaining on a forum on your costly internet about the cost of your streaming service and other luxuries. You shouldn't be here if times are so hard. You should be saving your money and taking care of your family and/or yourself.

Who peed in your lemonade? :p

"The Elite". Really? I'm sorry, just because you lack the skills and talent to make 6 figures, does not mean that the people who do are just "given" it. Do you also expect everyone to own a Porsche or Merc???

A dollar here and a dollar here should be made up by your company via raises and cost of living. If not, you are blaming people who are intelligent enough to hold a decent job. It's just lame and flat out wrong. Either get a job that pays you well enough to enjoy these creature comforts, or quit whining when others have that. It's plain jealousy otherwise. I get it, it sucks when you cannot afford these things, but that is life.

LOL 6 figures is not a skill thing, it's more of a luck thing. Or willingness to get into upper management, or mining, lineman and other high risk job (which has kinda crossed my mind). Most companies these days are cutting cutting and cutting even more. Raises are the last thing they even think of. When they raise prices, that money goes to the upper management, not the regular employees.

No one. My wife, who is a stay at home mother, takes care of my lemonade and I don't have to worry about anyone peeing in it, lol. I take care of the finances though and I pay for my own Netflix, Hulu, Disney+ and Apple TV. I wouldn't blame anyone but myself If I couldn't have those luxuries. :p

Could also be... socialism. :p

Edit: Or is that really capitalism in a nutshell. "Those at the top get richer, and the bottom get poorer."

LOL, six figures is not a skill thing. Then why aren't you making enough to afford the ever so expensive $18? You're funny.

Luck. You're highly disrespectful to the people who worked their asses off to get where they were. What a joke, You think everyone who has achieved something is "lucky" or it's "given to them". Wow, that's so offensive to people who actually use their skills/talents to be where they are.

I only have it because our T-Mobile sub includes it free. Since they raised the cost a couple bucks years ago, we owe the extra $2. If it goes anywhere above $10, that would be the threshold for cancellation for us. We don't really watch it much but like the option.

Probably a mix of both. Socialism is known for slightly higher taxes which means less money in the bank when you get paid, but capitalism is known for maximizing profits at any cost, which means paying people less, and making stuff costs more and doing anything else that can screw people over in various ways. Companies don't care about anyone but themselves and the shareholders and it's the capitalist way. So yeah poor get poorer and rich get richer, basically.

Thing is I make good money, a bit over 80k, I can't complain. I should honestly be rich right now, but I was better off 10 years ago because everything was cheaper back then so I had more disposable income. Now the costs of living just eat up a good chunk of that money. And it's not like I'm getting more out of those services than I did 10 years ago.

But anyway, I think this is getting a little off topic, I suppose. It started off at pointing out how lot of companies like to raise stuff by a small amount all the time and it all adds up in the end because they all do it, and kinda blew up.

This is your #1 problem. You're saying you've never received a raise or cost of living over the past 10 years? You're not mad at Netflix, you're mad because you work for a company that either 1. treats their employees wrong or 2. You're not talented or do a good enough job to receive a raise.

You should making more money and not complain about $2. Don't blame a company, blame yourself. As I said before, do you blame Porsche because you can't afford one?? Are you mad that a Ford used to cost 10k less? Do you understand the cost of production, cost of goods, labor and other factors that make a company increase in price?? Netflix went from a DVD rental company (13 years ago) to having 15 Oscar nominations last year and 24 this year. They've grown exponentially.

Did someone call for a Canadian elite? I wonder if I qualify.
Elite? There's such a thing??

Joking, but I was in Montreal before COVID and it's such a nice town. We had a great time and I'd love to take the family back to Québec. What part of Canada are you from?

Like most companies, it does not matter how hard you work, the salary is the salary. End of story. I reached my cap a long time ago, I simply will not be making more. Companies are not in the business of giving raises these days, they are in the business of making more profit than they did last quarter. I've probably saved the company 100's of thousands as part of my job, but that does not mean I get a raise. It just does not work that way.
