Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet all the way. A tablet that IS ACTUALLY DESIGNED FOR CREATING, not just consuming. It has an pen with digitizer input, which means that you can actually write on the damn thing. You know, what you might expect to be able to do with a TABLET.

I got some stylusi for the iPad but they were a little 'soft'.
 
Sorry to hear that.

My father teaches at a college here in Vancouver and they have a theft problem there too. Not quite a bad as what you mentioned I've never heard of anyone being that brazen but it's become an issue. Many of the offices there are created by cordoning off large spaces with lots of temporary walls and suspended office tile ceilings. Well thieves have learned to crawl up into the ceiling tiles and cross over into the offices to steal stuff.

Left the DSLR on a train, and took the watch off in a restaurant

That being said, there's not a replacement insurance available in the US like that. We have renter's or homeowners insurance but that really only covers things in your home or maybe your car. And there's usually a decent sized deductable...$500+ which is almost the replacement cost of of a lower end iPad.

How would something called "Contents Insurance" cover either of those situations? It really covers anything you take around with you? That's insane. What stops people from just lying about losing things?
 
At Purdue, during one of the week long breaks, all the computers on the first floor of the stanley coulter building got jacked. All of them.
 
Damn that sucks. I'd like to have an iPad for my wife to use around the house. I guess the good part is the guy that stole it is a scumbag and has to live his shitty little life everyday. Just imagine if your life was so pathetic that you couldn't even afford a iPad and had to resort to stealing one. He might of got a single iPad but he's still a pos and you'll get another one.

Can you ask the police or Apple to track the serial so whenever it connects to wifi they can view where it's located?

Apple won't track anything. My girlfriend's iPhone got stolen recently and we went through every avenue we could think of (including having ATT and/or Apple tracking the device).
