Call Apple and demand they replace it because it has a warranty. Spend a half hour arguing with them because you think warranty = insurance. Demand to speak a supervisor

Did you report the incident to the police ?

Called they said "yea we'll get there when we get there" when the campus PD guy got there he said "i'm the only guy on duty, and there's a fight I need to break up" so I"m emailing him my info...

maybe it was that trident kid who will do anything to have his status symbols from his favorite corporation.
this.

So I'm sitting in my office on campus and some guy fitting this description ran in, grabbed my i-Pad and ran out.

So that was fun... I'm fat and he is skinny... so no catching him.

He got an i-Pad 2 w/ blue-tooth keyboard-case: I hope that's one less house he has to break into in-order to meet his 'needs'.

...no Mobile ME so no GPS tracking...

I'm thinking this means it's time to leave the i-pad world.

So, any suggestions for a replacement?

I need it to have a good PDF manager.

you don't need a paid mobileme account for the tracking and remote wipe, it's free.

and that sucks. however, there really isn't a good replacement other than another ipad.

You DO know that MobileMe find my iPad is free, right? RIGHT?

Lol who fights on a college campus? Last fight I saw was back in 10th grade.

Are you sure you're working at a college? Sounds more like a continuation school.

Any tablet that will run PowerPoint/Excel/Word/browse the Internet/ play chess/spider solitaire?

I am tired of dragging my full sized laptop around when I travel for work.

ipad will do all of that except word, powerpoint and excel, but they have ported their apple office apps to it, which open and save in those formats.

i would skip the netbook route. i have an 11" ultraportable that's nice, but it's not nearly as convenient as a tablet.

Wtf. I would never have imagined someone stealing something from a desk with the person sitting in it at a college.

300 lbs? you couldve put $499 towards a gym membership instead of another iPad. regardless, that sucks and i hope the thief burns in hell

I have contents insurance, and did the last time I was at uni, it's £10pm to cover everything I own, everyone I know has it, it would be stupid not to... :colbert:

I'm curious, what have you had stolen in the past year and how much did it cost? And did the insurance come through for you?

Personally, I think you're throwing away £120 a year on worthless "insurance" that probably will deny you if you ever make a claim. Sorry, we don't cover skinny guys running up to fat ones and stealing their ipads.

Not stolen, but I lost my DSLR they replaced it within a 3 weeks....

A few years ago I lost my Rolex, they replaced that also.

How do you "lose" a rolex and a DSLR? Not trying to be a dick...but seriously how to do actually misplace something that valuable?

That being said, there's not a replacement insurance available in the US like that. We have renter's or homeowners insurance but that really only covers things in your home or maybe your car. And there's usually a decent sized deductable...$500+ which is almost the replacement cost of of a lower end iPad.
