It is kind of entertaining... before Apple stole ideas, they were HORRIBLE ideas! But as soon as Apple copies them, FANTASTIC! Sorry this chaps my ass when people are so flip flop on shit like this.
It is completely obvious they copies ideas. And the only problem I have is then Apple goes and sues people over stuff they steal. I have no problem with iOS but man Apple has some balls to do what they do.
I agree 100% because no one has ever stolen ideas from Apple. It's only Apple that steals ideas. No other company has ever stolen ideas/features that originated from Apple. It's only Apple that sues other companies. No company ever has sued Apple on flimsy patents. It's only Apple and fans of Apple products that deride features/ideas from other platforms and call them horrible until their platform of choice gets the same features.
Android would not be the OS it is (from a GUI perspective) without copying much of how it works from Apple's iOS. The early demos of Android were craptastic, even if the foundation of the OS was good, from a usability standpoint. Sure, Android and other mobile OS's have come out with some nice enhancements that have surpassed what is available in iOS but it's not like Apple hasn't been copied from. It's not like Apple hasn't contributed to the overall pool of GUI features from the early days of when GUI's were just getting started on early PC's to mobile OS's now. They've done a lot for GUI's.
Too lazy to look it up but there was a graphic of who is suing who in the mobile phone sector and just as many companies are initiating lawsuits against Apple as Apple initiates lawsuits against others. And it's not just Apple being sued or suing, everyone is suing everyone else. Personally, I blame overly broad and obvious patents. The patent system everywhere is screwed up and needs major overhauls. Apple is not the only major player in the mobile phone industry to wield their patents like a club either. It's just that Apple is probably the most visible player with all the press that they get.
As for glossing over features available on other platforms, I know Apple does this a lot but it's not like other companies haven't done this in the past. They're notorious for doing this. I believe part of it is that Apple is just more visible when they do it simply because of all the press that they generate.
Today's iOS 5 announcements certainly seem to rectify many major shortcomings found in iOS 4. This seems like a pretty big update for iOS devices. Yes, many of the features weren't on iPhone first but unless you're a fanboy, it doesn't matter. Use the platform of your choice and be happy that competition is pushing improvements on WP7, iOS, and Android.
