Notifications are really nice, both the lock screen and the bar sliding. So is the improved Safari. Updates over the air? Needs iTunes to be opened (and I won't risk my sanity doing that :p). And that's it...

Remains retarded:
- multitasking management
- no direct access to the file system (wireless link with this would be epic... I would even use iTunes as the "explorer" for my iPhone storage)
- syncing of stuff from your PC instead of just adding new things to what's there already - most retarded thing tbh

Read a comment on MacRumors made by Steve Jobs that they've been working for 10 years to get rid of the file storage system. This alone makes me want to run away as far as possible from iOS...

Custom launchers so you aren't tied down to the stone age icon grid layout? Scrollable docks with swipe shortcuts, customizable widgets for quick and easy access to power/wifi/gps/sync/brightness/vibrate/orientation controls?

Apps are only half the story. :)

+

Selection of devices with specifications and styling of user's choice.
Cutting edge hardware technology (even if it is only relevant for so long in this market)
Multiple market/sources of applications

Oh, and let's not forget... REMOVABLE (upgradeable) STORAGE (SD card).

Built in inferior Google Navigation vs full featured $80 GPS navigation. Just add it to the price of the phone if you'd like.

Guess you didn't read what pm wrote.

True dat. It is a double edged sword. But honestly what do you expect apple to say at their press conferences?

Admit they they are adding features that are standard in the industry like most other companies do.

Now the real question is this: What features does the iPhone software lack that android software has?

Ability to transfer files via bluetooth.

Ability to have a file manager without jailbreaking/rooting.

Ability to use non-Apple approved bluetooth devices like GPSes and controllers without jailbreaking/rooting.

Ability to have Adobe Flash.

He only reads his own posts and giggles a little bit because he believes he is hilarious.

As for the GPS thing, google maps/nav rocks. I love being able to say "Navigate to CVS" and it takes me to the closest CVS.

You guessed it. The thought alone gives me goosebumps... And I have no idea how it will work with monthly 3G caps... this will absolutely destroy your bill (besides requiring you to trust all your files with Apple, not only music). 2GB a month costs here $50 and that's nothing when using the cloud for everything.

EDIT: Actually it's 5GB for $50, still...

I'm sorry, you don't seem to understand that I've used Google Navigation for at least a year and it is basic beyond belief. It is inferior like a Corolla is inferior to a Ferrari. Simple. Does this go over your head?

Good god finally notifications. I don't know how anyone could live with notifications like iOS has had before. It's like Sam Kinison yelling at you when you get a notification. Great that they're finally updating it. Also finally is not needing to hook up your device to a computer to activate!!!! 21st century now. Also wireless syncing is finally here. Sucks that it's wifi only but hey, something is better than nothing. Also great is the lock screen notifications and camera button. Some greatly needed additions today. Now I can use an iOS device and not get frustrated with all the pop-ups interrupting everything I do.

they added in drag and drop then for music and such?

Not directly, but there are dozens of programs that allow you to drag and drop to an iPhone. What I like about that is I have choices, with my HTC I can use uhhh, Doubletwist, which is like a buggy, craptastic want to be iTunes. I would never dream of dragging and dropping with all the media switching I do from day to day. You have far more choices with iOS than with any other mobile OS. And that, imho any ways is why I love it so much. And when I need an all in 1 solution nothing touches iTunes.

So? It's free, want a 'pro' gps go buy one. It's worked fine for everything I've needed it to that had the correct address, and that's all I ask of a free software.

I like Google Music. No need to drag and drop anything, I just take all my music with me. :awe:

One of Android's biggest advantages is not being tied down to something like iTunes. You have easier control over your own media.

Apple copied the wrong company with the notifications. I know that iOS notifications are horrible, but Android isn't a whole lot better. Apple would have been better off copying WebOS.

It is kind of entertaining... before Apple stole ideas, they were HORRIBLE ideas! But as soon as Apple copies them, FANTASTIC! Sorry this chaps my ass when people are so flip flop on shit like this.

It is completely obvious they copies ideas. And the only problem I have is then Apple goes and sues people over stuff they steal. I have no problem with iOS but man Apple has some balls to do what they do.

I agree 100% because no one has ever stolen ideas from Apple. It's only Apple that steals ideas. No other company has ever stolen ideas/features that originated from Apple. It's only Apple that sues other companies. No company ever has sued Apple on flimsy patents. It's only Apple and fans of Apple products that deride features/ideas from other platforms and call them horrible until their platform of choice gets the same features.

Android would not be the OS it is (from a GUI perspective) without copying much of how it works from Apple's iOS. The early demos of Android were craptastic, even if the foundation of the OS was good, from a usability standpoint. Sure, Android and other mobile OS's have come out with some nice enhancements that have surpassed what is available in iOS but it's not like Apple hasn't been copied from. It's not like Apple hasn't contributed to the overall pool of GUI features from the early days of when GUI's were just getting started on early PC's to mobile OS's now. They've done a lot for GUI's.

Too lazy to look it up but there was a graphic of who is suing who in the mobile phone sector and just as many companies are initiating lawsuits against Apple as Apple initiates lawsuits against others. And it's not just Apple being sued or suing, everyone is suing everyone else. Personally, I blame overly broad and obvious patents. The patent system everywhere is screwed up and needs major overhauls. Apple is not the only major player in the mobile phone industry to wield their patents like a club either. It's just that Apple is probably the most visible player with all the press that they get.

As for glossing over features available on other platforms, I know Apple does this a lot but it's not like other companies haven't done this in the past. They're notorious for doing this. I believe part of it is that Apple is just more visible when they do it simply because of all the press that they generate.

Today's iOS 5 announcements certainly seem to rectify many major shortcomings found in iOS 4. This seems like a pretty big update for iOS devices. Yes, many of the features weren't on iPhone first but unless you're a fanboy, it doesn't matter. Use the platform of your choice and be happy that competition is pushing improvements on WP7, iOS, and Android.

Yeah, that was a piss-poor analogy. Ferraris are awesome, if you like being best friends with your mechanic and paying for his kids' tuition to Stanford. I think of it more as an M3 to a Camaro, both great but targeted and two completely different types of people.

If you don't think that companies stealing UI elements from each other is a good thing, you are an idiot. If you only get upset about other companies stealing UI elements from your favorite company/OS, then you are an idiot fanboy. Software patents, especially for UI, are a major problem that waste millions of dollars in legal fees and stifle competition.
