I had a Palm Pre Plus. Its GPS did not work. It was slower than sin. It crashed constantly. The build quality was horrendous. It had no application support. Its battery died in less than 1/2 a day.

It was the worst phone I have ever owned, but ran an OS with great potential.

Sure sounds like a great OS to me.

Glad you have the best OS imaginable now, though. And you won't ever have to worry about anything ever again. Such a care-free life one can live in the Apple world.

That had nothing to do with the OS, it was extremely buggy and hardware issues and coding faults.

The design of the OS and the way it handled multi-tasking and the like is certainly quite good.

This is warning against trolling . Talk about the feature, talk about anything you want relevant to this news but don't post comments that aren't relevant that are designed to annoy some people.

Before we all troll along about how iOS is copying Samsung's TouchWhiz-esque lock screen, lets not forget that Windows Mobile 6.5 - yes, the much attacked, denigrated, final iteration of Windows Mobile - did this quite some time ago. And I doubt they were the first, either.

Interesting: they're also copying Thumb Keyboard (which Microsoft also plans to copy).

If they allow keyboard options on the iPad, could optional FlexT9 (since Apple has long used Nuance) be possible on the iPhone?

I don't think that it's trolling to saying that iOS is copying/mimmicking features that Android (and others) have had in place for a while. Engadget's own live blog (http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/06/wwdc-2011-liveblog-steve-jobs-talks-ios-5-os-x-lion-icloud-an/) mentions this point several times. I think it's a debatable point whether it's a copy, but it certainly has similarities.

So let's talk about how similar or dissimilar it is...

This is a discussion forum and comments where people just call each other names - like yours cheezy - aren't discussions. I'm warning again - and this includes you too Cheezy - to talk about the topic and refrain from labelling users and trolling.

Sure.

Yes, it is very similar to what android has to offer. Totally agree on that end. Android did do notifications right, so I am glad that apple did mimic this. I have already had these sort of notifications on my iPhone for quite a while (been using lockinfo on a jailbroken phone).

It sucks that apple, who has been the leader and innovator in the mobile phone space for the past 3+ years, was lagging behind something like android when it comes to notifications. I am glad they finally fixed their system because it definitely was outdated.

It is kind of entertaining... before Apple stole ideas, they were HORRIBLE ideas! But as soon as Apple copies them, FANTASTIC! Sorry this chaps my ass when people are so flip flop on shit like this.

It is completely obvious they copies ideas. And the only problem I have is then Apple goes and sues people over stuff they steal. I have no problem with iOS but man Apple has some balls to do what they do.

I am glad they copied notifications, it was the only thing I have thoroughly enjoyed on my Atrix so far.

EDIT:

Notifications has always sucked on iOS, even the most die hard fans will admit this.

What do you expect apple to do when they release a new feature? Say "We copied this exactly from android, dont you love it?". When did they say the notification system was poorly implemented in android? Me thinks you are putting words in their mouth and coming up with your own assumptions.

So we won't tank about how Apple sues everyone over the same kind of shit their copying? That was my point. Apple has set this precedence, so it is safe to assume they will continue their current bullshit habits.

You can check my post history, I rarely if ever say a iphone is a bad phone or anything of the sort. However, I have MAJOR issues with their business practices. I am not a "phandroid" either. I own a android phone, I enjoy my android phone. However, I do not have a false sense of android is god shit either. My mother in law wanted a new phone and she loved our androids when she saw them. I still didn't recommend it to here, for her uses I recommended the WP7. I didn't recommend a ipone however for 2 reasons. One I've already mentioned but 2 we have Sprint.

Well, they fixed the shit that annoyed the hell out of me. I guess I'll be staying with the fruit people for the next phone.

True dat. It is a double edged sword. But honestly what do you expect apple to say at their press conferences? I understand they are being hypocritical, but what do you expect them to do at their own event marketing this feature? They want their new (to them) features to look at good as possible.

Now the real question is this: What features does the iPhone software lack that android software has?

Only one thing I can think of right now: built in turn by turn directions.

Can someone explain why the articles talks about this being a huge blow to RIM? I don't understand.

Probably because of this?

http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/06/apple-unveils-imessage-its-bbm-competitor-at-wwdc/

iMessage. It's a messaging service exclusively for iOS users (irrespective of which device they're rocking), which comes with delivery and read receipts, an indicator for when the other party is typing, and the ability to push messages to all your devices. Kinda, sorta like BBM. You'll be able to send messages, photos, videos, and contacts. Group messaging will also be available. It works over either WiFi or 3G and looks to be making good use of Apple's new push notifications.

Custom launchers so you aren't tied down to the stone age icon grid layout? Scrollable docks with swipe shortcuts, customizable widgets for quick and easy access to power/wifi/gps/sync/brightness/vibrate/orientation controls?

Apps are only half the story. :)

Built in inferior Google Navigation vs full featured $80 GPS navigation. Just add it to the price of the phone if you'd like.

Wow, you truly are just a troll huh?

Infraction for personal attack - there's two huge large boldface comments above by me saying not to do this, Deeko.
