Intel review embargos have often been weeks before the actual release. This is true even when the product is nothing special.

The embargoes have been kind of meaningless for a while since someone manages to get their hands on release silicon weeks before the embargo and publish results.

I remember that AT bought a CPU from overseas and had results almost a month before launch. Another time some retailer accidentally started selling them early and reviewers got their hands on some again.

You can bet that this will happen gain.

For desktop? How was it for Alder Lake-S? I think the sales embargo and reviews embargo was lifted on the same day right? I'm expecting the same for Raptor Lake because it's a refresh of Alder Lake.

Press embargo for Alder Lake-S was 10/27/2021, sales embargo was 11/04/2021.

Without reviews. Dullard talked about the review embargo. The press embargo for the launch reviews had been lifted on 11/04/2021 as well. It wasn't weeks apart like he implied and I don't expect it weeks before the "actual release" of Raptor Lake either since it's a only a refresh on the same node and socket. The availability of ADL-S (k) was pretty good last year after the launch, it was much better than expected.
 

Now here is what appears to be the Sapphire Rapids Xeon W processor list. Goes from 12 cores up to 56. Having to cut all the way to 3 cores/tile is rough, but dems the breaks.

Are those final specs? They seem to be Meh from an "Extreme" High End Desktop point of view. Lo clocks, low cores. Are these going to compete with Zen3 ThreadRipper Pro?

5990X 64 Core Threadripper can be OC quite high on all cores(4.8 Ghz) on water and break world records(over 100,000 points in CB R23)

i would be interested in that 28 or 24c W7, depending on the price and the turbo clock speeds. Then again i suppose zen4 might be better fit for my needs.

they mention xeon w2400 as well in the article, i wonder whats the difference is (compared to these 3400 cpus). 4-channel only? Or single socket only?

After thinking about it, I think it makes a ton of sense to go ahead with Sapphire Xeon W's launch. They can use the UPI bug as an "excuse" for not launching server, which gives them cover over the yields. It'd be a much easier sell for lower core count parts and the volume is tiny. Plus OEMs pretty much ignored Icelake Xeon W so maybe they would be more interested in skipping it and going to Sapphire.

Workstation might just still be on schedule while server has slipped and slipped.

That's assuming that yields are the problem and the UPI bug is the only one of its kind. Certainly the former isn't true, and I wouldn't bet on the latter either.
 
For all of you that love Geekbench results(Dr. Ian Cuttress has said that is a very good test for IPC on par with SPEC) so far this is another lack luster performance from a QS Sample of Sapphire Rapids with final clocks.

That CPU is actually a Final Release sample of the 8480+ with base clocks and Max boost for the Intel Xeon Platinum 8480+ 56C/112T is 2.0 Ghz basecand 3.0 Ghz Max boost

So far an Early ES sample of Genoa has a All boost of 2.25 and they have AVX-512(No AMX of course) on 96 cores.
That is an ES and has little to do with the final chips. Also, that is with almost twice the cores. Finally, Base clocks on AMD chips do not represent all core boost clocks.

Shame. Sapphire Rapids has quite a bit of potential.

Would be nice to see Intel launch at least 1 16 core part with high frequencies.

The Xeon Gold 6434 8C/16T will have a max boost of 4.2 Ghz 205W and The Xeon Gold 6444Y 16C/32T Max boost of 4.1 Ghz 270W

Are you counting the Xeon Workstation parts? I haven’t kept up with SPR since delays started happening.

It would be incredibly odd of Intel not to release a 4.5-5.5 ghz part for HEDT.

Regular HEDT, as in X-series chipset and CPUs for Intel and Threadripper non-pro for AMD is dead. It'll be all W-series now for both Intel and AMD.

Since there are no more true HEDT parts from Intel, Their Workstation Xeons W are just as bland as their Server counterparts

The ThreadRipper Pro are actually more interesting than the W series Xeons
 
The 56C/112T 8480+ will have a base clock of 2.00 Ghz and boost of 3.00 Ghz. The Ice Lake 8380 with 40C/80T have a base of 2.30 and max boost of 3.4 Ghz. That's a fact.
We've seen Golden Cove in Alder Lake, and we know it clocks far higher than Sunny Cove across a wide range of power levels. That is a fact. So why are you so quick to throw out everything we actually know?

For example, why are you so certain that 3GHz is a single core boost speed (as the Ice Lake number is), and not all core?
