Last time I shot one was a .22 rifle at Boy Scout Camp, 6th grade. I have to admit, it was fun.

wtf? shaking from what???

You can shake from nerves. First time I shot a deer I was shaking like crazy I had to take a couple deep breaths cause the shotgun was bouncing so much I couldn't keep the sights aligned.

thats a bit different. he was just shooting at targets...

Firearm Owners ID. I believe you just need to be accompanied by the owner of said gun you will be shooting.

Many places will let you rent. In DE we don't even have any kind of firearm id card. When I purchased my first gun it was rather scary that I just had to show a few forms of id and fill out a simple form. No waiting period, no id card...15 minutes and I legally walked out with a gun.

Why is that scary? I can buy knives, bow and arrows, javalins, axes, chainsaws, all sorts of "deadly" weapons, and not even have to show ID. Believe it or not, guns aren't just for killing people.
The only common weapon that's sole purpose is to kill people is the sword, but I can still get those on ebay.

Point taken...let me replace scary with surprising. I was always under the impression that there was a waiting period in every state and that you needed an actual firearms id. Probably just a product of being raised in Jersey where you can't own a pea shooter without a permit.

When I was quite a bit younger, one of the first guns I shot was a muzzle-loader. The guy who owned it convinced me it was something that I just had to do. Unknown to me, he packed the barrel full of powder. After firing it, I slowly picked myself up off the ground and started searching for my shoulder. I found it 75 yards away under a bush.

Good times.

LOL sounds like my first time shooting a 12g when I was 8. I didn't fall down but it picked me up off the ground.

Suppose we get married. You don't see a problem with me going ahead and buying a gun despite her feelings towards keeping a gun in the house?

You could always shoot her with it if she keeps nagging you about it.

Yeah my college has a pistol PE class. It is quite possibly the best thing ever. I enter the lottery as many times as possible so I can shoot as often as possible. (I'm in Cambridge MA, so it's not like shooting ranges are very accessible here in guns-kill-babies-land.) We only do .22 cal handguns, but still it's pure awesome.

This is why I made sure I had a gun before I got married. The woman lives with me now and I bought a 2nd one recently. She doesn't like it but she knows it's not up for debate.

The FOID thing doesn't tick me off as much as the restrictions on buying a gun. Its not hard to get a FOID, but to purchase a gun is such a pain.

Guns are a blast and if you get reloading equipment they can be cheap entertainment. I can't stress enough though make sure you get some gun safety training and cleaning training. You do not want to shoot yourself or someone else accidentally.

growing up my friends and I used to reload 15-20 boxes of shotgun shells and take some clay pigeons out in the desert and shoot our 12 gauge shot guns until all 3 of us had huge bruises on our shoulders. Great fun for 3 16-20 year old males. Just don't be stupid with the guns and always pay attention to where you point it and you should be fine.

In Illinois at the 2 ranges I've been to, yes, you need to have your own FOID card to go into the range. It does not matter if you shoot your own, your friends gun, or a range gun, you need the FOID. This is probably different state to state though. Illinois is one of the strictest states when it comes to guns.

krunchykrome, I recommend shooting a 357 magnum if/when you have a chance .... That's my favorite round to fire, though usually I shoot 38s because its significantly less costly. S&W model 686+ with 6 inch barrel ... my favorite thing to shoot :)

I've fired a S&W 44mag as well, but it was a bit too powerful to be a comfortable range gun for me. It only had a 4 inch barrel though.

So are you going to let her dictate everything that you can buy in your life? What about when you go through midlife and want a corvette but she wants a Toyota Prius? Stand up for yourself and do what you want to do. Buy a safe to put the guns in, problem solved, lets see those scary guns break themselves out of the safe and go on a shooting rampage.

The range itself can require you to have a FOID card, but they aren't legally bound to require you to present one unless you buy ammo. Range policies vary.

You are so screwed before you even begin. You know absolutely NOTHING about dealing with women. You will be a servant the rest of your life.

There are things that I'm willing to compromise on, for various reasons, and then there are things that I will not budge on. This is one of those items that I will compromise on due to it's sensitivity.

I fail to see where its a big sensitive subject. There are many, many safety devices. Trigger locks work awesome. Gun cabinets are good, too.

My house was broken into at the beginning of summer, if I was home when the theft was happening my gun would have been getting some action.

Based on your posts in other threads, it sure sounds like you have a clear understanding of women

Then he needs to hide as many assets as he can as quickly as he can, unless the bitch has already grabbed it all, and stop making the house payment or rent.

That is why it is beneficial to the man to OWN the house prior to getting married and then she cannot force you out of YOUR house.

Too many useless women playing the marriage lottery these days.

Most women turn incredibly evil once they decide they don't want/need you anymore but from my experiences and watching other people's experiences I am starting to believe that a high proportion of women are simply born evil.

That was just from one thread. I don't know what your issue is with women, but I'm sure I'd live a miserable life if I went forward with that kind of mentality.

Not suprising. ;)

In any case, try it again, but don't think about it as much. Dont' think "OMG I'm about to shoot a gun." or anything of that nature. It's juts a physical action. For that matter, don't even focus on the gun. Pick it up, aim in the general direction of the target, and shoot. Don't try to hit anything specific, just shoot it. Do all of the above as quickly as you can safely do. Rinse and repeat until you are comfortable with shooting. Then you can actually start aiming precisely.

Look, without sounding shauvinistic (sp?), you are the protector in this relationship. And if you feel it is beneficial for the safety of your family, then you need to put your foot down. Now, you will probably say you don't need a gun to feel safe. That's not the point. The point is all you need to do is make her believe you need it to properly protect the family, as it is your obligation to do everything within your power to protect. Just as she will require certain things when she becomes a nurturer to your children.
