I don't even know how to play basketball- no idea of the rules (I can dribble through :) ). I guess I could have played but I was always worried about hurting my fingers and not being able to play guitar.

I'm also into science to the point that I almost became a chemical engineer. I'd rather watch Discovery Channel than ESPN. I get in a lot of situations where people come up and start yapping about "Did you see Johnson make that play that got flagged?" and my eyes glaze over. It's funny how if you're a guy, you're automatically supposed to follow all sporting events.

So, I'm in the same boat as the OP.

*SIMULATING THREAD PRIMATES*

Oh frtizo, you're such a i love you! Guitar?! When's the last time they won a super bowl?! You don't even have a favorite that you can quote stats about? Holy sh1t you're such a queer.

I love teh EGALS because they are the BETS and since there teh bets IM TEH BETS AND UR NOT!!!#@!

haha, nevermind, I guess you're just a toolshed.

Person A answers thread question with no criticism. Person B refers to those with a differing opinion to the OP as "primates".

I'm similar in many ways. I probably don't have a "man card" and honestly couldn't care less.

isn't it possible to be both?

I used to be a solid nerd in college and i have a thing for techie stuff, art, literature, cooking, etc. But "jock" stuff can be really fun! I enjoy watching sports - not necessarily the north american favorites - with a bunch of buddies, beer and pizza. I'm doing weight lifting, and the endorphins are an amazing rush. And going to a club, getting drunk and dancing with random women (when i don't get struck down, that is) how can that *not* be fun? I enjoy martial arts, and will take on anyone that kicks sand in my face.

so my mp3 player contains BBC specials and 'learn xxx language' while i workout. and my music playlists alternate between metal, jazz, rap and classical. i recycle, while saving up for a snazzy sports car. the bottomline is - just do the stuff you *like* and don't give a damn about what people think.

Not trying to be haughty, no point really. Just wanted to see what the spectrum was here on ATOT and if anyone was similar.

Yayayayayayayay?

EDIT:

This thread is full of insecure dito-heads. Find your fault in the OP, do what you must but your high road is "you're pretty much my opposite. What was your point again?" Pull your head out of your ass.

Look, OP doesn't get off on sports and yet many people in this very thread obviously wear their interest in other people playing sports on their sleeve as if it were some kind of badge of honor; for lack of a better term, "grow up." People who don't think like you aren't necessarily weak, dumb, or wrong; they're just different. Different isn't always better, different isn't always worse; sometimes different is just different. There's a lot of folks in this thread who should pause on that thought for just a moment.

Uh, ok, sounds like I hurt your feelings. Where again did I criticize the OP?

Ok, I was responding to an assumption made by someone else, not the OP himself.

Again, you're a toolshed. Just admit it. You came in here guns blazing, and what's amusing is that while some people WERE critical of the OP, I am the one you specifically chose to cite, and I was one that did NOT attack him. So go back into your hole, boy. You're just a sad little hypocrite.

Yeah but are you going to post a thread questioning your masculinity about it like the OP? I bet not.

Wouldn't have figured you for the knee-jerk type, Red. I could be off base here but OP is simply curious about how he might compare to others since he obviously feels a significant degree of detachment from the people around him. He doesn't fit stereotypes (at least any I'm aware of) and yet he doesn't appear to hold that against himself; good for him.

I can already tell you one thing I admire about the guy is his sense of individualism; no heard mentality or group-think coming from his post, is there?

lol, now-a-days being 'individual' and counter-culture is 'in'. anyone that has to voice their 'individuality' has much more of a herd mentality than someone who does 'popular' shit like watching sports.

oh and you realize its most of these fools that don't like sports who come in here and talk shit. no one here that likes sports goes out of their way to insult someone who doesn't like them. it's only when they bring up stupid shit like, 'its a bunch of millionaires playing a game' do people get annoyed since these same people don't seem to have a problem with millionaires playing make believe or millionaires making sounds.

i was just messin with the anti-sports flamejobs :p

The secret we keep about man cards is that a real man card carrying man doesn't give a flying fuck about man cards.

I assume you're keeping statistics, like a good non-man card holding academic? :)

on AT, I would expect more "non-card" holders due to the very nature of the site. Maybe you should put up a poll, but I can't imagine creating one that's not loaded.

But in the same stroke I've never understood 'nerds', again too aggressive a personality type. I can't stand most rock/pop I prefer classical music. I don't like almost any movie targeted at men my age, action flicks, horror, shallow special effects extravaganzas. I've never caught on to the gorefest FPS extravaganza that seems to pass for your average game these days. I far prefer complex dramas, RPGs, adventure games and the like. I'm anti violence, anti death penalty, anti gun (well not entirely), anti conservative. I have long hair and would probably have been a hippie in days of yore, except I'm probably not social enough to have been even that. No I don't think I would pass the prelims for man card certification. But then I don't care to own one really. You could say that in everything but sexuality and mannerisms I'm a fairly gay man, not that I care, but I love watching the womenz.

How do you compare?

Yes the above is a bit of an exaggeration about myself but not hugely.

Everyone is different. My traits would be

- Love sport (watching and playing...but hate football)
- Hate alcohol (just don't like the taste)
- Not social at all, but I'm married and enjoy time with my wife
- Like man movies. Gory, violent, action...awesome.
- Sci-fi geek.
- Enjoy gaming...don't care what genre as long as the game is good. Be it violent or non-violent.

Didn't say I wasn't a sci-fi geek, that I am. I just don't like special effects movies that aren't sci-fi nor a good movie they are just there for the effects.

Wow, good stunt deeko. You got me! I'm a "toolshed'!

I suppose it's possible that I misinterpreted that flow of the conversation (which I'm limited to examining since you don't know how to quote people) but I'm confident that you were referring to the OP (perhaps people LIKE the OP) when you stated:

"Originally posted by: Deeko

Yeah buddy, you're innocent! You LOVE guys like the OP!

For what it's worth, I would respect you more if you could stand by your laurels even if I disagree with you.

I'm not really into sports either. I suck hard at basketball, I line shots up perfectly but never put the right amount of power into the shot. I watch any movie as long as it entertains me, even if they are considered chick flicks. Actually, my favorite movies are tied between Snatch (harhar), Pulp Fiction, and Forrest Gump. As far as music goes, I listen to anything but metal.

I am a geek. I don't know too much about computers but I know more than most people out there, and I'm on this site for a reason :p Not into Star Trek and I haven't watched more than 20 minutes of Star Wars. As far as games go, I play anything and everything if it doesn't suck.

I couldn't care less if someone thinks I'm unmanly. I don't hide my geekiness from anyone. And by anyone I mean everyone. I'm not particularly social, but I do keep a wide variety of friends, including jocks. As long as they have good character, I dont care what their interests are.

You just quoted verbatim about half of the conversation with a few of my friends. rofl.

in reality we usually talk about class, the games we're playing, the girlfriends or lack thereof.

Why did you feel the need to start this thread? I don't quite sure why you feel the need to be so opinionated on this topic as if its critical to know just where you stand.

You need to lighten up, learn how to assimilate into society, and get some friends. Sports, music, and movies are social activities- men don't like that stuff genetically, we get into it because our friends like it, and it's fun to hang out with people.

Or don't, but find happiness somehow. Yeesh.
