I love to drink. As I posted in a previous post I don't mind drinking 'girly' drinks. But then I also like drinking straight Vodka, Rum, Scotch. Anything with a high alcohol content and lot's of it.

You're in good company. For some reason, guys seem to consider me a "threat" because I'm a "nice guy" (death sentence right there). I like guns and stuff, but I really only watch football (and even then I'm not sure what exactly's happening), I enjoy documentaries and "chick flicks" and would rather spend a night talking with a woman than anything else (I've done it too)...

Yeah but are you going to post a thread questioning your masculinity about it like the OP? I bet not.

Wouldn't have figured you for the knee-jerk type, Red. I could be off base here but OP is simply curious about how he might compare to others since he obviously feels a significant degree of detachment from the people around him. He doesn't fit stereotypes (at least any I'm aware of) and yet he doesn't appear to hold that against himself; good for him.

I can already tell you one thing I admire about the guy is his sense of individualism; no heard mentality or group-think coming from his post, is there?

lol, now-a-days being 'individual' and counter-culture is 'in'. anyone that has to voice their 'individuality' has much more of a herd mentality than someone who does 'popular' shit like watching sports.

oh and you realize its most of these fools that don't like sports who come in here and talk shit. no one here that likes sports goes out of their way to insult someone who doesn't like them. it's only when they bring up stupid shit like, 'its a bunch of millionaires playing a game' do people get annoyed since these same people don't seem to have a problem with millionaires playing make believe or millionaires making sounds.

Just so long as it's the right kind of talking, I could go for that sort of thing, too. I can't tolerate the whiny sort of frivolity that I hear a lot of from people yammering into cellphones.
"And she was like, 'Oh my God?' and I was like, 'Oh MY God!,' and she was like, 'OH my GOD??!' and I was like, 'Oh my God," and she was like, 'OHMYGAWD!' like totally whatever you know?"

Yesterday, studying for a test, someone sat down near me and proceeded to call people, one after another, and tell each one the same damn story about something a professor said, using the same stupid voice to imitate him each time. I came across her an hour later after the test, talking to her mom, telling the same story again. SHUT. UP.
I don't care if it's guys or girls either.
Guys it isn't so much "Oh my god." With them it's more like this:
"Dude, I said, 'Fuck you, dude,' and he said, 'No, fuck you dude,' and I said, 'Uh, no, fuck YOU, dude,' and he said, "Fuck you? Dude,' and I just said, whatever man, later."

Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'm going to go find Janna Levin and let her lecture me about theoretical physics all night long.

To the OP: Don't worry about your man card. Most man cards in circulation actually expired for various reasons a few days after they were issued. ;)

I am glad you had the sizeable balls to post this about yourself here. That shows you have nothing to worry about, man card wise.

Since you asked how I compare, here is this tidbit.

This next bit was lifted from a previous rant I made about the pro sports topic, if you saw it before, excuse me :)

If pro sports is so entertaining, why do most people fall asleep watching it at home, unless they have money on the line?

I enjoyed playing various sports, don't get me wrong, but just passively watching it for hours and or listening to the amazing catches, passes, hits, ect, stories just bored me to tears after the first sentence. Like the fishing stories about the whale that got away.

And I know a lot of other sane and intelligent people who are bored with the pro sports circus as well.

Pro sports does nothing to help mankind. All pro athletes are is hoes to the promoters and owners. If you take away all the obscene money the pros are paid, you are left with a lot of immature, self centered punks who would beat each other senseless in a strip bar every night if not for pro sports. Oh wait, they do that anyhow. :p

Just look at the new cowboys stadium they are building in Arlington. 1000s of people lost their houses and former lives to build it, against their will. The city even had the nerve to spend 100s of millions of tax payer money to build a private stadium complex. Even though Jerry Jones could have paid the entire bill himself. Not to mention they recieved tax breaks and other incentives to further screw the Arlington taxpayers 50 years into the future on the deal. Why is that? Do you think anyone who lost their house to this stadium will have $150k to 250k a year to buy a private viewing box? How many looted taxpayers in Arlington will be able to afford that? How about all the pro jocks who are receiving public tax breaks and incentives similar to welfare on the stadium to get fatter paychecks? At least they can now afford it.

And then you cluelessly wonder why people feel the need to bash pro sports when they are running around with their hands outstretched for tax dollars like some poor homeless person? How many people in Arlington will see social services like school financing cut to finance this private enterprise? How about ALL of them?

And how about the obscene amount of money colleges spend on sports programs that raise tuition prices when that money could be vastly better spent actually EDUCATING people rather than excersing and working out on a SCHOLARSHIP? Why aren't these sports jocks going to a PRIVATELY funded technical school for basketball, football or baseball when they get out of highschool, since they obviously aren't even smart enough to speak properly when they get out of college? Where is that valuable college funded education when the cheerleaders are doing all their homework for them? To even pretend that these jocks are natural born geniuses because they throw, bounce or hit a ball a bit better than average is ridiculous. But to be fair, a small percentage of jocks are smart. At least in my experience.

Yet the self promoting media machine holds them up as heros and role models until they maliciously murder 2 people and drive off home to hide the fact they are wasted behind the wheel Cowboys Player Dwayne Goodrich MURDERS 2 Good Samaritans And Gets A Slap On The Wrist! Obviously good and honest character building is not a high priority in sports programs, in spite of the constant hype to the contrary.

Now, do not confuse PRO SPORTS with local school athletic programs for grades 1-12. Now that is something that kids need at that age to burn off their ADD and other pent up agressions on. But is it positive character building? Maybe at that age, it is.

Now the olympics are a whole different animal, tho. I will watch that. But the promotion pimps are all over that like bears on honey, too. It kind of ruins the events when you hang advertising banners from every available spot just to grab a fleeting camera view. And even the athletes are frequently covered in adds, ugh.

is there an echo in here? :p

anyway... yeh, my father was a very avid sport's fan.

it's not just about burly "millionaires", as someone said, running around with a ball. it's about competition, strategy, being physically fit and on top of your game, and being able to cheer someone on to victory. sports, in a way, is a lot like life.

it's not like i couldn't like a guy who wasn't into sports, i just don't know if we'd be compatible. he'd come off as non-competitive, and that to me is boring.

Well Locut0s, from your description, you're pretty much my opposite. Cool. What was your point again? Are you looking for ridicule? Or just trying to be haughty? Or was there none?

Ahh....so it was more of a "hey look at me! I'm so different! Hooray, me!" thread then. Makes sense.

And Pauly boy, we both know Dallas is winning 7 superbowls next year. Not 7 in a row. 7 Next year.

Still don't know why they cut Spikes. I thought he had a pretty decent year last year. Putting a lot of trust in young, unproven linebackers....

Cross me off your list. (I know I was on there, so I figured I should mention it.) I am semi-competitive, sometimes. I'm playing that Ikariam game, and one of its main features is the pillaging option. I don't even do that. I joined it mainly to be a materials trader with a powerful defensive fleet. I don't deliver fails like another alliance. I deliver materials at decent prices. :D

I will watch Jeopardy when I think of it. I suppose that's a kind of sport, though I never really cheer for any one particular person. I guess it's what you've grown up around and it seems odd otherwise.

And yes, I'm even more non-competitive than anyone else.

?? Do you like all sports? Are there only certain ones you like to watch? Same with guys who don't like sports, minus the number of sports that you do watch.

EDIT:

This thread is full of insecure dito-heads. Find your fault in the OP, do what you must but your high road is "you're pretty much my opposite. What was your point again?" Pull your head out of your ass.

Look, OP doesn't get off on sports and yet many people in this very thread obviously wear their interest in other people playing sports on their sleeve as if it were some kind of badge of honor; for lack of a better term, "grow up." People who don't think like you aren't necessarily weak, dumb, or wrong; they're just different. Different isn't always better, different isn't always worse; sometimes different is just different. There's a lot of folks in this thread who should pause on that thought for just a moment.

I'm the same way. I don't like sports, I'm more of an "artsy" person. Instead of football in college I went with music. I watch maybe 3 football games per year, and no other sports. I don't even know how to play basketball- no idea of the rules (I can dribble through :) ). I guess I could have played but I was always worried about hurting my fingers and not being able to play guitar.

I'm also into science to the point that I almost became a chemical engineer. I'd rather watch Discovery Channel than ESPN. I get in a lot of situations where people come up and start yapping about "Did you see Johnson make that play that got flagged?" and my eyes glaze over. It's funny how if you're a guy, you're automatically supposed to follow all sporting events.

So, I'm in the same boat as the OP.

LOL- that stats thing is a whole other subject. We have guys in the office that know stats of the their teams for the last 10 years. They play with all these numbers and throw them back and forth over lunch. It reminds me of beer drinking Dungeons and Dragons players. If you substitute some words in their sentences, it's the exact same thing:

"Hey, Bob's running a .387 right now and is 4:9 in overage, but if he can get a hyped up second string to cover his back, he might be able to break the spread."

compare to

"Hey, Bob's running a 12 constitution right now and a 4.9 damage modifier, but if he can summon an enslaved demon to cover his back, he might be able to complete his quest."

Uh, ok, sounds like I hurt your feelings. Where again did I criticize the OP? He said, in his post, "HOW DO YOU COMPARE". I answered his question, numbskull. I also asked what his purpose for postin this was, because it doesn't seem like there was one.

I never said there was anything wrong with his lifestyle or what he likes to do. I merely answered his question, and asked why he cared.
