We copied you because we essentially have to -- but it doesn't make that big a difference to follow or not so may as well.

Ya, but New York is consistently 3 hours ahead of California year round.

If Canada didn't follow, Toronto would be 1 hour ahead/back of New York for like October and March but same every other month of the year. A huge chunk of our TV comes from the US -- Canadian channels buy the rights to US shows -- and shows would be 8 eastern, 7 central except in October and March.

yeah, i generally like it here and everyone i know is here, but when i'm retired i might do a 6-months-here-6-months-in-FL-or-AZ thing.

my aunt does it and loves it because she can hang out with family and friends half the year (and not have 120 degree temps), but then gets nice warm winters too. and has a few months to get away from everybody, haha.

i live about 10 miles from a bunch of amish people and they don't follow DST.

so starting tomorrow they'll all be driving the buggies to work an hour later.

Thing is it makes zero difference. In winter it's dark when you get up and dark when you get home from work, regardless of how you shift clocks around. In summer it's bright in the morning and bright in the evening, again, does not matter how much you shift the clocks.

We should just keep it on winter time and leave it. The only thing DST does is make it so you have to get up an hour earlier. Your body does not care what the clock says, it only cares about it's own internal clock. Getting up at 7 is like getting up at 6, for example.

The fact that it's light out at like 7am even now that it's not summer yet does help slightly alleviate that though. Easier to get out of bed when it's light out. I love it when sun is up till 10pm and comes back at like 3am though. That does not last long but it's always surreal to see when you're used to winter where it's pitch black till 8am and before 5pm.

DST is like cutting a foot off a 2x4 and gluing it to the other end to make the 2x4 longer.

I'm indifferent about whether or not we stick to DST indefinitely, but the idea of jumping forward or backward an hour on a 2-a-year basis is just indescribably idiotic and serves zero point whatsoever unless politicians are just a bunch of trolls.

To be fair, while I support DST, it's not fair to blame a failure to adjust on those people who struggle with it at first. The circadian rhythm is a very touchy thing, and problems with that internal clock have roots in a lot of mental health disorders. I've struggled with circadian rhythm issues, and it isn't always simply a failure to adapt, at least not at the conscious level.
