I hate DST

Getting dark at 5pm is a bitch for anyone with depression. When I become king of the Earth the time will stay at DST and my minions will rejoice.

Hell, I would vote for Trump if he would keep DST all year. 😛

When Benjamin Franklin proposed Daylight Saving Time — he invented it — it was a joke. These days, it's more like a practical joke we play on ourselves every single year. It's time to end this dumb prank once and for all.

Originally, Franklin joked that he had been awakened after a long night (probably, knowing Franklin, of partying) and was surprised to see light.

Daylight Saving Time wasn't introduced in America until 1918, when it was meant to conserve energy for World War I. The thought was, essentially, Franklin's: that people tend be more active in the evenings, so the extra daylight there would mean fewer hours where people lit their houses at night. After the war, farmers lobbied to get the law repealed; turns out, it's easier to do farm work when the rest of the world is also on the sun's schedule. In 1942, during World War II, DST was enacted again, but year-round. Afterwards, well, adoption varied.

I'm indifferent about whether or not we stick to DST indefinitely, but the idea of jumping forward or backward an hour on a 2-a-year basis is just indescribably idiotic and serves zero point whatsoever unless politicians are just a bunch of trolls.

Yeah, I still get a slight case of the blues in the winter, stupid low sunlight. 🙁
Meds definitely helped combat that but I still feel that much better when there's plenty of sun, so they couldn't knock that out completely.

interesting, i did not know that was an actual thing. i have felt that way in winter all my life.

While I'm not treated for SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), and not sure if I could even be classified as ever having had it, there was a marked improvement to my winter blues with treatment for my general anxiety/depression/inattentiveness (which begets which, not a clue, and different practitioners have had different conclusions.. don't care really, current med combo works).

SAD is a real thing, but also real is a general case of the winter blues. Low light often effects most to some degree, but it can hit some people worse. People with any kind of depression can get a kind of double-whammy thanks to the low light. In the winter I feel that much better when it's simply a sunny day, even if there's fewer daylight hours. But as you know, Ohio winters are more often gray than sunny. Especially, I think, for y'all in the Cleveland region. Not jealous of that lake effect whatsoever!

All I see is a bunch of nancies that are scared of the dark :^D

My mood is 100% better in the winter when the air's cool, and the night's long. I got the dark this year, but no cool air. It was like having no winter at all :'^(
Get an air conditioner and a pair of sunglasses. 😛

I would rather just abolish all time zones.

UTC everywhere (and it doesn't observe DST), local schedules.

So here in the Detroit metro area, it would be the same time as everywhere else in the world. But the old 7am would just be 12:00...

So normal construction hours would be 12-2030 instead of 7-1530. Wouldn't be that hard to get used to, obviously various regions would have their own local traditional times, but you would still have one completely, crystal clear, time to communicate with.

1200 in Detroit would be 1200 in Denver or Hawaii or Beijing or Paris. Just some people would be asleep or having dinner etc.

Love DST. Keep DST forever... Fuck this poverty dark by 4pm shit we have to endure from November through February.

What the hell is the point of 4-ish months of early darkness?

Best thing Bush did was extend DST.

Some harmless questioning of DST is okay but be careful with your words.

It's still a good indicator of the level of control the 1% has on the peasants. If one day the masses decide to not follow this simple order then the FEMA camps will surely be utilized to re-educate the unpatriotic scum who dare to interfere.

Does Canada just copy the states on this issue? Why should somebody in Canada care about Bush and DST? Even without standard time it's going to be dark up there in the winter.

That's about where I'm at, except I avoid outside homework when it's hot(over 70F). I do the lawn(stupid!), and help other people when they ask, but late fall-winter is the best time for outside work.

It doesn't help my farmer's tan. I get a serious farmer's tan going on.
