This should be interesting... Water main broke in front of my parents house, flooding the low spot in their yard. Crews haven't arrived yet, and the temperature right now is 0°F, with wind chills around -25°F. The roads are slick, and they are going to have to cut it down to one lane as they work on it. Luckily the water isn't going into the road though, that could be really bad.

Those weather icons are amusing.

I really hate this trend of super hi-res 3D animated icons and cute adorkable disgustingly humorous icons.

I like icons to be clean and simple so I know what the fuck is going on with a quick glance.

This is especially true with my phone.

We've been getting water main breaks left and right here in the past few years. I don't know what's going on, guess all the pipes are around the same age and starting to pop one by one. The cold weather tends to trigger them. Wonder if it could be prevented by simply putting sheets of foam insulation over and to the sides before they are backfilled. Basically a C where the bottom part is left open.

It's 49 in the apartment right now, but the forecast changed and we're due 6-10 inches of snow and below zero temps. Still, I won't let them win. I have a long tradition of not running the heater (unless I have guests) and I'm not breaking it now.
Same here. Normally it's about 5-12C here in the Winter, and about the same in my house, which I have no issues with. Take a nice hot shower in the morning, drink a hot cup of coffee with breakfast, exercise with my weights, drink a warm tea at night, keep on my sweater with a hood indoors sometimes, and go to sleep in a nice thick blanket. My place is old and isn't insulated well so turning on the heat just turns back into cold/outside temperature 30 minutes later anyway.

Supposed to get up to a foot of snow here in Central, KY. As a northerner in the sorta-south, next few days should be interesting. Thursday is supposed to be -10F. This is a real winter 🙂

supposed to get like 8" or so of fucking snow tonight. going to be in the single digits this whole week. this shit blows, ready for spring right now.

Drove to work but had to take the long way as somebody took out a pole which closed Richmond Road outbound. Left after 4 hours and it was pretty shitty.

My wife was on Harrodsburg this morning around 7:00AM and watched a guy in a truck go off the road and take out a light pole. It fell into some electric lines that stopped it's fall.

7 inches and snowing 1-2" per hour right now. Expected to keep going to around 8 PM and then the cold weather starts dumping in even faster.

I guess this section broke about 5 years ago as well, seems like a bad connection or something. I felt bad for the Water Authority workers, they were out there from about 5pm till 10pm. The wind was blowing pretty bad too.

Temperature dropped into the negative 20's here last night. Was at -21F this morning while I was making coffee. Decided to go outside and sit in the hot tub while I enjoyed my coffee. I wore my robe and Muck boots to wade through the 2 foot deep snow by the hot tub. Opened the lid half way, climbed in (sans boots and robe), and the dogs promptly grabbed my garb and dragged it half way across the yard.

I'm not sure how a mental image can be both scary and funny at the same time, but if you could picture me running through the snow, wet, and with a negative temperature outside, to retrieve my robe and boots...

LOL

that's both hilarious and sad at the same time.

I have had too much winter over the last 5 days.

It's been very cold here and we keep getting Lake Effect Snow. Right now it looks and feels like the arctic. I can hear the wind howling outside while the snow is blinding everyone.

I can hardly wait for spring.

🙁

PS: I just felt like bitching about the weather.

I wish we had snow here in Vancouver. I bought a season pass at the local mountain and there is no snow! Only got four days of skiing in this year. Oh well, it's 12C and sunny right now so I guess I'll just enjoy the weather.

Vancouver's probably the only city in Canada that doesn't get bombarded with snow.

I love all the "frozen horror" pics on TV from Boston. They look like an average winter day in Minnesota.

I'm sure part of this is due to how crappy Boston's roads are. They barely work in good weather and are basically unplowable. I don't know how they deal with it really.

Lots of fun in Middle TN today. So glad it was a holiday or would have been even worse. With that said, tomorrow is not a holiday and all of this junk will likely freeze over tonight meaning tomorrow morning is going to be one of adventure.

anyone who says they prefer cold/snow over warm weather is either....

a. full of shit and trying to make themself feel better about where they are living.

b. has lived in a cold area the majority of their life and doesn't know better.

c. doesn't live in an area that experiences seasons and weather changing so again, all they really know is cold.

this snow bullshit fucking blows. only good thing is that i will be snowed in tomorrow and won't have to work.

Started out with some clouds and humidity this morning. By this afternoon the clouds had mostly dissipated and glorious sunshine resumed. Highs in the upper 60s where I was hiking about. Methinks moving here from the cold, dark, soggy, dreary east was double plus good.
