Huh. I've read the book and liked it. And I liked this movie a lot as well. This movie was the same thing as Borne Identity...borrows the greater theme and then just writes a new script entirely. While it wasn't the best movie I've ever seen, I thought it was enjoyable. They kept neville has a super self reliant, patient and determined man whose main enemy became loneliness.

I liked the take on the vampires in the movie. Although the intelligent vampire piece was left largely undeveloped and the ending did feel a bit rushed. I don't understand the complaints about religion...it barely was featured as part of the movie, the virus was created by man and then cured by man.
 
This was one of the few movies that I felt could have used an extra 30 minutes. The ending felt rushed and I was left relatively unsatisfied when it was all over.

Will Smith is a good actor but they broke the mold when they made Heston. "I AM Legend" is "The Omega Man". I've never heard of the book "I Am Legend" but if you watch "The Omega Man" you will see the same movie ... done 36 years earlier ...

Broke the mold? lol I think the Omega man was better than I Am Legend, but just barely. Both are good movies, but no question Will Smith is a better actor than Heston.

There's a reason they still talk about Heston's acting in the original Planet of the Apes or other classics - he was one of the greatest actors at carrying a story by himself of all time - I doubt anyone will be saying anything about Will Smith in that tone years from now.
 
I saw it last night. I enjoyed the first half, but the last half was sort of meh. I honestly believe they should have added about 30-40 minutes to the movie in order to make it a complete picture.

The horror of the ending.... they might as well end the movie by saying Will Smith found a portal to Shrek and lived happily ever after.
 
They absolutely bastardized the book, why call it I AM LEGEND if it doesnt even incorporate will smith being a legend

In fact, because Books are always viewed differently by each reader due to the need for the Reader to fill in the blanks with their own Imagination, even if a Movie remained true to the Book many would think it didn't. Books and Movies are 2 different Media and what works in one doesn't always work in the other, so drop the whole comparison.[/weak rant]

btw - I might have had a DVD of this laying around and only told the wife, "yeah, it's the latest Will Smith movie." Only to hear screams of OMG!!!, OMG!!, OMG!! coming from the living room about a half hour later :evil::laugh::evil:

 
Haven't read the thread (to avoid spoilers) but I need a quick answer. About to go to the multiplex to watch a movie. 40/60 chance I might get a ticket - this movie's is my fallback option.

Worth the coin? For reference, I liked War of the Worlds and was mildly entertained by Resident Evil: Extinction. I don't need a high-end analysis: just if it delivers a couple of good scenes and maybe a few cheesy jokes. I can live with that.

as long as you can live with it not being much like the book at all, it's pretty entertaining for the worst part. of course, you could be like most of the people in the thread complaining and just get the pirated copy:Q

Once the leader guy broke part of the glass away, I'm not sure why he didn't use the pistol to kill him.

Definitely agreed on the last sentence.
 
why are ppl bitching about the movie. yea it's understandable it didnt match the book and some of the things that happened in the movie are mind boggling. but come on, have you seen the latest die hard?
how does an f15 hover near an overpass and not blow the cars off the highway? the silly bombs it shot at bruce willis completely missed him. so stop your yapping and enjoy the movie.

next you ppl will complain about how harry potter fell off his broom.

I'm bummed about the deal because the first half was good. They had the making of a great movie if they'd just have kept with it and stayed with the book. If the whole thing had sucked, meh, not big deal.

But they HAD it and pissed it away. Its a tragedy that such a good story almost got made into a special movie and the opportunity was lost.

Even people who haven't read the book aren't liking the ending.



 
movie was alright.. i was expecting more. kinda felt like a resident evil game

what i dont get is....after 3 years alone, why didn't he make a move on the woman? 🙂 strange......................

There is no 'tragedy' it is just a movie.

and it was good as far as movies go.
 
it was pretty decent, id say 6.5/10 (I havent come across a movie that i would rank higher than a 7.5/10). They didnt really go into great detail for several things, but kinda left it up to the audience to fill in the blanks vaguely but enough to couple to the action scenes.

The part where the dog ran into the dark building after the deer-like animal (name escapes me) reminded me of "We don't go to Ravenholm..." from HL2

Ok, no tragedy. How about "disappointment" that a century of a more expressive way of story telling with moving pictures, and later audio plus moving pictures, is something to be settled for "as far as movies go". The art form never really did tell a better story and has regressed from what was attempted decades ago.

Words on paper always could tell a better story, and movable type still beats motion pictures that way, but fewer each generation can be bothered to read. Around here two healthy paragraphs call for "cliffs". Suggesting reading the book is a sure way to get any comment about a movie ignored. This celebration of reading laziness has progressed to the point that even mentioning the book is a foul somehow, and promoting the original story - without even suggesting looking at the book, is book snobbery.

I appreciate you pointing out how little expectation one should have for a movie. Saddens me most of the viewing public agrees with you.


 
went to see it with the Mrs on Friday night

we both enjoyed it but it doesn't take much for us to enjoy a movie. we're not 'critics' and certainly not internet-type critics, who don't like any movies.
