I really enjoyed this movie and I got to admit I was pretty freaked out after watching it haha. Just the fact that it's dark for so long, and you don't know what to expect makes the sense that much more intense. I find it really interesting how the book differs from the movie though. How he is the "legend" in the book because of how the zombies portray is completely different from how the movie portrays him as a "legend".

I think the advertising for this movie was what made it most enjoyable for me though. I had no idea what to expect or what the story was about, all I knew was that I wanted to see it.

who is Alice Braga? is she up and coming? you think they could afford to pay a better known actress to play Anna, as Will Smith is probably the only well known actor in the whole movie.

I just saw it as well... count me in the disappointed crowd. I enjoyed the first half or so, but from there it went downhill. It seemed to end too quickly without much character or plot development. I think another half hour or so would've actually helped tremendously. Oh, did anyone else hate the full CGI "zombies"??? I really couldn't help but laugh at them at parts. :)

There is a subset of those surviving that have managed to temporarily postpone the effects of the disease, but still have some of it's side-effects, like not being able to go out in the sunlight for anything but a short period of time and sleeping during the day. These people especially retain their humanity, and Smith's character becomes the monster, like vampires to us. Instead of vampires prowling on us at night, Neville (Smith's character) prowls on these people while they sleep killing indiscriminantly (because of sleeping during the day, he can't distinguish between those that are truly infected and those that are keeping the disease at bay) and becoming a source of terror for them. Neville is finally killed, and he became a "legend" among those infected with the disease.

oh wow. that's completely different from the movie.
I just came back from the movie. Dont really care that it doesnt follow the book (since I never read the book) and thus I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Thought it was one of the most tense movies I've ever seen. I want to see it again.

Oh and did anyone else catch the poster for Batman and Superman in the beginning of the movie (in the Shelby Mustang chase scene)? I think it was dated 05.15.10. Is that some kinda foreshadowing that they are making a Batman and Superman movie?

I too dont get how the woman got into and out of Manhattan.

Will Smith isn't half the actor Charlton Heston was, and he wasn't able to carry the film.

The Omega Man was a superior adaptation of this story by far.

saw it tonight and i enjoyed it thoroughly. i don't give 2 craps if it doesn't follow the book or not, i don't read books.

the scene where the dog follows the deer into the dark is one of the most tense scenes in a movie. i felt claustrophobic watching it.

Scary movies give me nightmares. For 3 weeks :(

Haven't had one so far even though I saw the movie a couple days ago. "Signs" with Mel Gibson had me waking up in the middle of the night for three weeks and to this day still sends shivers down my spine. Yeah, I fail.

I thought the movie was really good (Just got back from it with my girl and her kids). Had quite a few parts where it shocked you and I thought the story line was great. I usually fall asleep during movies since my attention span is so short but the whole time I was glued to the screen. The preview for that Adam Sandler flick looks like it'll be entertaining as well. Can't forget Batman either. The Will Ferrel flick - yawn.

I don't understand how people find this movie "scary." The CG crap made the movie ridiculously fake and hilarious, especially at the end when the vampire/zombie is head butting the glass door. 28 Days Later zombies FTW.

If I had paid to go see this movie I would have asked for my money back. I like Will Smith but his acting could not carry this remake. The special affects were underwhelming to say the least.

This is an almost EXACT remake of the Omega Man with Charlton Heston ... but not nearly as good. When is the Hollywood establishment ever going to come up with an original idea ... vice regurgitating something that was done before?

Draw.

I doubt that Vampires could effectively destroy a Zombies head, while it would be almost impossible for a Zombie to kill a vampires. I wonder what a vampire zombie would be like.

what if the vampire is completly eaten by a pack of zombies? Would it burst out of the zombie's stomach and reform?

Considering the Vampires from I am Legend, no Zombie is getting close enough to eating vampires.

I just watched it today.

I liked most of it except for the ending. The ending was absolutely TERRIBLE.

I have read the book, and I think that was a FAR superior ending and it makes the title of the book make sense. Whereas the "I AM LEGEND" title for the movie doesn't make sense in the way they have anna referencing it. I don't have problems with changing endings for things/stories for movie adaptations so this isn't a "OMG READ THE BOOK" post, but if you're going to fundamentally change the ending in as drastic of a fashion as they did while keeping at least the core of the story intact, you better either rename the flick or make sure it still makes sense that way.

No sir ... you are, in fact WRONG.

Will Smith is a good actor but they broke the mold when they made Heston. "I AM Legend" is "The Omega Man". I've never heard of the book "I Am Legend" but if you watch "The Omega Man" you will see the same movie ... done 36 years earlier ...

Broke the mold? lol I think the Omega man was better than I Am Legend, but just barely. Both are good movies, but no question Will Smith is a better actor than Heston.

Saw the movie this weekend and liked it.

[My] Answers to conundrums posted above:

-How did woman save Will on the pier?
As is mentioned, there's a portable light on the pier that is visible in previous scenes. It looks like a light for a construction site, and those lights typically have a built-in generator.

-How did the one grenade do so much damage?
I didn't pay much attention earlier, but if the lab were filled with flammable chemicals used in his research, the grenade could have touched them off. Plus, explosives are deadlier in confined spaces. It's still Hollywood-ized but perhaps a tad more believable.

-Explanation for "super zombies".
I read that the writers took the effects of the virus that produced the zombies from the effects of PCP. There are plenty of stories of PCP users doing amazing things that seem superhuman. Might not explain tipping over the Explorer by two of them but does explain some of the strength issues.

-Where did the deer and lions come from?
I read in a review that the implication is the animals came from the zoo.

My problems with the movie:

-Why assault rifles? It would seem to me that if you want to take out zombies, you should use shotguns. You don't have to aim as much, and the effects are more devastating especially considering the 5.56mm round from the M4's. I would think he would have put shotguns IN the house especially given the close quarters.

-UV lights out in the open?? It would have made much more sense to armor the light emplacements with metal grating and anchor them in the ground rather than having them exposed like they were. The idea of mounting them up on the roof is great. The guy had three years to fortify his home, and that's all he came up with?

Saw it tonight.

Not bad, quite suspenseful i'll say, but kinda had some gaping plot holes.

Still enjoyable though.

Good movie but it had so much potential.

BTW, there are 13 bridges connecting to Manhattan island, IIRC, so she could've come many ways. Besides, the blown bridges were connecting to Brooklyn, which is on another (Long) Island. You also have some tunnels from New Jersey, although the vampires may live in them.
