HP touchpad tablet $99

It's an awesome deal and all, but there won't be any new software or any support. Part of me is screaming to pick one up, another part is laughing at me.

HP had about a half million of these built, so there'll be TouchPads available for a bit longer, many are sitting in warehouses on their way back to HP....

BB will be sending back 250,000 or so...

Saw a post this morning by a guy who said they had 32,000 in their warehouses, waiting to go back to HP.

For $100, they'd be handy as a take along device or for use in the bathroom 😀

Went to the PC Richards next door to me around 9:30AM, none in stock at the store. The manager checked stock at the warehouse for the 16GB, 103 in stock with 302 orders. He put in an order for in-store delivery but chances are it will be cancelled.

He knew about the price drop as soon as I asked him about the Touchpad.

went to walmart this morning at frickin 7am. Assistant manager didnt even know and refused to honor sale price for 32gb for 150. Even after seeing the price on walmart.com! Had to wait until 8am for manager to get in and it was a done deal

thanks guys!

never thought I would get a tablet but typing on one now and works good so far

You will still be able to get it from other stores. Every place should drop the price to 99/149 today. Only problem is, they will sell out fast because of Slickdeals. I'm going to see if I can get a second one for family or a friend.

BB is shipping theirs back, Office Depot is selling them and will get more in on their trucks too (Manager told me Monday).

got a 16gb ordered through HPs academic site last night for $90. I mean honestly its not THAT bad of a tablet for surfing. I too think webos will be toast I will be using splashtop webos and surfing while chilling.

Got one last night through HP.com for $85 + tax. Went to MANY stores today to try to pick up another as "insurance" in case the HP order gets cancelled, and couldn't find one (had several close calls, with the people in line in front of me clearing the last ones out of stock). Went to Staples, 3 Walmarts, Best Buy, and 2 Office Depots.

The 32gb is going in and out of stock at samsclub. I managed to pick one up if it goes thru cool if not no big deal. For the price it's worth playing around with.

Maybe dropping out of shopping carts?

Ordered from hp.com as a student email about 9:30 pm Central Friday Night, I still have not received an email
Somewhere between 8:30 am and 11:30 am, it has changed from verifying to processing. My credit card was not charged in the verifying stage but now it is in the processing stage it has been charged.

My total for the 32gb Touchpad + Case is going to be $155.98 after I used a $30 off coupon. So with taxes my total is $168.07

IPS screen and dual core should make this a nice e-reader and internet browser just like my nook color. Hopefully I can put Android or Windows 8 on this eventually, but even for an internet browser and e-reader it isn't a bad price.

*crosses my fingers that the order goes through*

I got 2 $99 16GB TP at Microcenter, + 2 Touchstone docks @ $64.95 each (pricematched B&H.)

Just a heads up for those of you that are interested but don't know much about what is going on at HP...
They are not going to be building anymore hardware for webOS, but they are keeping the software and working on licensing it out to hardware manufacturers.

Those of you concerned about the number of apps, think about this: a half million units are in the process of being sold to consumers in the US. My guess is app developers might want to get in on this sudden swell of tablet purchases. With HP getting some money back from app sales, it won't be too much different than how Microsoft and Sony lost money on console sales in the early days of the 360 and PS3 but made some back on software.

dont mean to thread crap considering I ordered 2 of them but I woudnt count on such a great APP exposition. Even with .5 Mil of these leaving the shelves it dosent give developers that much incentive to develop apps for a dieing platform. considering the IPAD sells the same number of units in a month (kinda a guess at that number, i remember reading that they usually place orders for ~20 Mil displays at a time)

My hope is the surge in touchpad's will prompt someone to get android running on it!

still being verified -.-

If it is from HP they have stated to me personally in a phone call this morning that all orders WILL go through if you are being verified (as long as your CC info was correct) and it is just a lag in the system because of the influx of orders. I personally have mine at "Item being processed". She also told me that anyone who used the coupon will NOT be getting their orders canceled and HP will honor the code. We will see if she is correct, but she said i was the 15th person she had talk to today about this already. 😀

I lucked out went to Walmart, bestbuy, staples(didn't change price yet), then went into HHGreg just after they opened. They had six 16gb, I was able to get one 🙂

Playing around with it, the screen is nice, scrolling on web pages is much smoother than my android devices (One is a evo 3d). Plays videos well, linked into my pictures. Connected to Exchange, yahoo, Gmail and made all email available.

Overall impressed for the short time I have used it, first web OS device i have used.

Actually, from what I have read, the iPad is probably more like 3 million units a month. 500K units is nothing. From a developer standpoint, they basically don't exist.

Thanks for the tip, trying it out as I type🙂.

Going to have to read up on all the features of web OS.

I purchased a case and screen protector from Amazon, not sure how much stock there is available and I'm sure many will be buying one.

Ordered 2 of these through the walmart site with store pickup. Got the email confirming they were ready so went to get them. When I got there, the manager came out and said they did not have any in stock for that price and that he cancelled my order. I asked if he had any in stock and they had 3, but they were 398.00 apeice.

I went ahead and picked up the two I wanted and figured I would test my luck with a return price match in a few days, worse case I just return them all together in 15 days.

I even thought I would call walmart.com on monday and see how the store manager was able to cancel my order when they were in stock.

Your store manager was being a clot, there was no reason to do that they are just now believing the fire sale. Take it back in a few days for a price match or try a different walmart with your receipt and see if they will PM.
