care to make that $350 rebate that ends on 5/19 available to the public seeing as how compusa isnt linking to it anymore?

Not sure if I can post rebates here but if you send me a PM with your email address I'll send it over.

i tried to pm you but it says you dont accept pm's... if you click my avatar you'll see my email... but it say @comREMOVEcast.net when it should be @comcast.net

YGM.

My advice is don't bother with the erebate system. Just fill this one out and mail it and then there shouldn't be any argument.

Edit: I've allowed PM's now too so if anybody else wants the $350 rebate thru 5/19, just give me a hollar.

What a mess.

So I decided not to wait for shipping since my order still shows as "Ships in 1-2 business days" and just went to my local store to buy it. I had them cancel my online order and ring me out for the laptop. So far so good.

But here's where things get sticky. The CompUSA rebate form that printed at the register is for $300. But, as of this writing, if you go to the product page at compusa.com it shows a rebate of $350. But wait! Go ahead and click that rebate and look at the qualifying date....oops, it ended on 5/16! WTF? Yup, the current rebate is $300.

However, since I originally purchased this online on 5/13, I have a copy of the $350 rebate that I downloaded that night and the end date is actually 5/19! WTF?!?

Anyway, I just spent 30 minutes on the phone with 2 different people explaining this whole fiasco. I emailed my copy of the rebate which does indeed prove that I qualify for $350. But to throw another wrench in the works, I'd already went to their online ebates site and entered in the rebate from the register, which is the $300 version. *sigh*

Ideally, I should have just printed out my 5/19 copy and mailed it in.

Well, I'll keep you posted.

P.S. I'm so steamed about this fiasco I haven't even opened the box yet to check out my new lappy! But if they don't give me the extra $50 it's going back.

What a mess indeed. I hope you'll get a chance to enjoy your laptop.

The laptop is beautiful! I've been running into Dells for so long I forgot that there were other brands out there. I like this one far better than anything I've seen from Dell.

Guildboss how's the tv tuner. Does it run well?

Haven't tried it yet. Been a busy week for me. All I've done so far is remove the preinstalled garbage and did some Vista tweaking.

First test is to plug in my video camera to try to make a DVD from tape. 🙂

I got mine on Friday and love it. I downgraded to XP and it runs like a dream. Some users didn't like the screen resolution but I think its perfect, it makes running games on it a lot easier to hit the native res. I haven't tried out the tuner (I have directv) but I do look forward to running the HDMI through my HDTV and seeing how it looks!

Loving mine too. I kept Vista and it seems to run just fine, although I removed most of the HP software which certainly helped...yuck!

A few comments on the 9207US from CompUSA.

1. $799 currently; I grabbed it.
2. There's a LOT of junk on the HP install.
3. The LCD screen, to be nice, sucks. Compared to the Gateway M505 (15.4" widescreen) I had before, the Gateway's was considerably better.
4. The small right shift key is annoying.
5. The DVD is a tray load, not a slot load like the Gateway had (I'm spoiled!)
6. The GF7600Go is decent for a laptop GPU. It's not a screamer (I had to drop most Company of Heroes preferences to middle or low, and still only got a "Good" perf rating) but it's not bad, and for non-gamers it's overkill; for gamers, it'll play most stuff at middling settings at 1440x900, or drop the resolution and play in full glory.
7. HDMI, but no DVI, and DVI's currently a lot easier to come by, so this is a bit annoying...
8. This is a BIG notebook. And it's a HEAVY notebook.
9. The machine comes with 2 remotes - a tiny one with a few commands (the ones you need for MCE) and a huge Microsoft MCE-compliant one with the full range of keys. I anticipate only using the small one. Conveniently, it fits in the Expresscard slot. Not conveniently, there's only one Expresscard slot, so you can either put your TV Tuner in there, or the mini-remote control. 🙁
10. The TV Tuner requires a small cable that permits a coax cable to be attached to the tuner. Another thing to carry... Also, the tuner sticks out of the laptop about an inch, so you'd need to remove it whenever travelling.

If there are any questions, post away.

3. What exactly sucks about the screen? Also is it glossy or what?

4. What's so bad about the shift key being so small?

6. What kind of framerate is a "Good" rating? Also if you change the resolution from the native resolution do the games look worse?

10. Does the TV Tuner have a good picture? Is it kind of staticy or scrambled at times or on some channels?

3. The screen has a _very_ specific viewing angle. Outside of that angle, the screen quality is very poor. It's glossy, too, so glare and reflections are an issue.
4. Erm... well, if you're a touch typist, and you've spent 40 years learning one way, and you get a new and funny keyboard.....
6. I think CoH was average of 25 or so. They have Poor, Good, Great, and other ratings. Check out CoH and you can see the same thing. It's an LCD screen - of course if you change the resolution everything looks worse. 🙂
10. The tuner's quality is fine - about the same as the Hauppauge 500 and generic HP/ASUS tuners I use for MCE2005 recording. No static, no problems on any of the 6 channels or so I watch.

You need to go to the OP's link, and you'll see the link on the lower left portion of the page is clearly still good.

This deal back on again. For some reason, its on for a bit, then off for a week. What's up with CompUSA?

I've been watching this since I posted it back in March. After rebate, it's mostly been $799 AR (2 rebates, $50 from hp and $350 from CompUSA). There was a brief period ~3 days, where you got $50 instant savings, and a brief period (~1 wk) where it was $899 AR.

For folks looking to get a 17" laptop, this is probably the best deal so far for all the stuff that you're getting. A comparable one is the Everex Stepnote, but that deal is long gone.

I love the laptop but I will never do business with CompUSA again. I've never encountered such incompetence across the board as I have dealing with the retail, rebate, and customer service staff. It's obvious to me now why CompUSA is losing the battle to Best Buy, CC, etc..

What happened? You get the rebate printout, go to the web page, plug in your info, and 5 weeks later a check comes; what happened to you?

Right - as a result of that they moved to a web based system that now works REALLY well and doesn't require any mail-ins or paperwork; it's one of the best rebate systems around.
