The president of Clear Channel is a personal friend and large corporate sponsor of GWbush, and Colin Powell's son is the President of the FCC.

George Bush is Clear Channel's best friend. He's paving the way for them to buy up every media outlet in the country so that if they don't want it on the airwaves or in the papers or on TV, it won't be. He's already relaxed the restrictions and is actively pursuing a course that will effectively remove the current obstacles to this happenning.

To reciprocate, CC is going to do every little thing that Bush wants.

Kids would figure it out, but you have to understand that as a parent and take precautions for that. We surely can't please all of the people all of the time.

You say cable should be able to do whatever they want, but kids are sure to figure out how to access the cable stations as well. How do you fix that?

like I said, cable is a pay service, thus you can have a TV and not get cable...just as the internet, and sattelite radio are all pay services....

free broadcasts like standard radio and television are what I am talking about with re. regulation...

I see what your saying, but if people don't like what's on free radio or TV, no one is forcing them to own these products.
That's true, but those airwaves are public domain. This is a circular argument.

Yup, as long as it is deemed "public" domain then that is what is truly the issue here....again, for paid services they can do as they please, but for anything "public" then it is my stance that regulations should be applied.

Public domain in what sense? It's not owned by the state and it's not public access television.

It's not owned by the state or anyone else, hence PUBLIC. However it is regulated by the state, you can't just start broadcasting without a license or whatever...
Why is it any different than public TV?

Good thing Clinton gave them the ability to exist.

Here in Orlando even the "Monsters of the Mid-day" show was talking about how they feel like they have to watch themselves now 'cause they did get yelled at.....and they're not even remotely offensive!

Also sucks for me 'cause, love 'im or hate 'im, listening to Stern was more entertaining than the rest of the ultra-crap in the airwaves.
Russ&Bo are cool, Bubba and Savana get on my nerves but they do represent Bithlo well :p

So for you people who are blaming the Republicans for this, were you here blaming Clinton on the Communication's Decency Act, that was subsequently shot down by the "conservative" Supreme Court??

Oh, and the FCC Chairman Michael Powell, who is the real driving force behind this, while Republican, was brought in by Clinton in 1997. Just some food for thought.

Haven't you people realized by now that this society has gotten so lazy that they can not even take care of their own children. They need the goverment to impose laws to restrict the content of our TV's and Radio's so they don't have to pay attention to their own children. /* Pretty soon the only thing on TV will be The Wiggles and Sesame Street and radio will only play Christian music /* end sarcasm. In all seriousness though you need to realize the outcome of something like this. If you start to give in to the goverment setting restrictions and imposing censorship on TV and Radio then where will it stop. I am and always have been a very big Howard Stern supporter. Sure he does sometimes get very outrageous but its all done in good fun. I could care less if he makes fun of Italians or whoever since its all a show and just their for our entertainment. I personally hate gangsta rap music and think that most of it is rude and tasteless but I would never, ever ask that it be censored and removed from the market. The saying you can't have your cake and eat it too definately applies here. If you are against censorship then you really can't be selective on who you feel should be or not be censored. Just my take and I am sure I will hear alot of flack but I don't really care because I am tired of G W Bush pushing all of his Christian beliefs on all of us. Soon it will be a crime to not attend church at least if G W has his way.

Honestly whiplash what is worse, the fact that parents are so busy they cannot take the time to watch their children every minute, or that sleazy entertainment types take advantage of public radio/TV and broadcast garbage in the name of ratings....

also the last part of your statement is utter bs, try reading the thread for a change and you will see that censorship and the like is not limited to the Bush admin, heck if it wasn't for Klinton then this might not be possible now.

I think the public media really has to re-evaluate what they are "adding" to society and whether or not it is truly beneficial. Stern was a moron, his show was garbage, and IMHO something that should have been taken off the air a long time ago...maybe if he was funny or even had a decent format then sure...heck if you want a slightly insightful and interesting show listen to Imus in the morning, but sure you won't hear of nude sisters making out with their father....honestly.

Hey... No one is forcing you to watch or listen to anything. If you dont like it, dont listen to it. You ARE capable of finding a different radio station. Leave it for those of us that do listen to it.. Jesus, America is so damn sensitive now... You literally cant say anything anymore without someone getting pissed off.

What did they do to get canned?

they held competition in which people got points for having sex in public places. Anal sex was bonus points. Well, one of the places on their list was a church, so a couple went in to the church and had sex and got busted by the cops. That was the end of O&A.

In the immortal words of Biff Tannon, "McFly, McFly....Hello!!!" try reading the thread, again while that is fine for adults and the like children don't have as much common sense and many parents don't have the capacity to police their kids every second since they are trying to provide food and shelter.

Stern should be moved to sattelite radio only if he wants to continue violating FCC regulations and using racy content, just as people have to pay to see HBO....either that or he should clean up his act, his show isn't even good.....

But we have to do it for the CHILDREN! Won't somebody please think of the CHILDREN!!!

Here it comes. I can see why you don't like Howard Stern.

Thanks for the desire to pick what I listen to on my own time or what I find entertaining, but I think I can figure it out for myself.
