In all seriousness though you need to realize the outcome of something like this. If you start to give in to the goverment setting restrictions and imposing censorship on TV and Radio then where will it stop. I am and always have been a very big Howard Stern supporter. Sure he does sometimes get very outrageous but its all done in good fun. I could care less if he makes fun of Italians or whoever since its all a show and just their for our entertainment. I personally hate gangsta rap music and think that most of it is rude and tasteless but I would never, ever ask that it be censored and removed from the market. The saying you can't have your cake and eat it too definately applies here. If you are against censorship then you really can't be selective on who you feel should be or not be censored. Just my take and I am sure I will hear alot of flack but I don't really care because I am tired of G W Bush pushing all of his Christian beliefs on all of us. Soon it will be a crime to not attend church at least if G W has his way.

Honestly whiplash what is worse, the fact that parents are so busy they cannot take the time to watch their children every minute, or that sleazy entertainment types take advantage of public radio/TV and broadcast garbage in the name of ratings....

Its not in the name of garbage ratings its in the name of fun. I personally listen to Howard because from time to time its nice to be check your brain at the door and just laugh at the world. So to answer your question its not that parents are busy its that they are lazy. I am just as busy as anyone else is with 2 jobs but I still monitor my daughter and don't ask that the goverment do it. I was the one who wanted the responsibilty of having a child so I should be the one to look after my child and make sure she stays on the right path. We are in an automated society where we need cruise control, automatic starting cars, wireless remotes, cell phones and hundreds of other automated things you see in one day in order to save a couple of seconds in our day. Why not use those extra seconds to actually pay attention to what your children are doing instead of trying to automate your parenthood too by passing your parental responsiblities on to the government.

Like I said pulse, if you have to pay to watch "garbage" on TV then why shouldn't you with radio now that the technology is there....

oh well, pretty funny arguing about it since whatever we say has no bearing on the matter at all.... Clearchannel owns it now and I am willing to guess things won't be changing for a long time.

Seen, now, your whole argument becomes baseless because of the tired, uninformed, misapplied accusation that this had anything to do with Bush.

Again, the FCC chairman who slapped ClearChannel with a $750K fine, which then immediately pulled the plug on Howard and other radio hosts, WAS A CLINTON APPOINTEE! The Chairman was applying the fines based on current law, NOT ON ANY LAW THAT BUSH HAS IMPOSED.

Hell, Bush even stated he didn't even see Janet's undoing and hasn't said much about any of this stuff since. Give the Bush bashing a rest folks, it's getting boring.

Stern should be moved to sattelite radio only if he wants to continue violating FCC regulations and using racy content, just as people have to pay to see HBO....either that or he should clean up his act, his show isn't even good.....
His show being suspended has NOTHING TO DO WITH FCC REGULUATIONS. It's just a large corporation with ther head up their ass.

So having your kids listen to a show about two naked sisters making out is fun? or some of the other rather racy things he features?...Opie and Anthony were "fun" but I will be the first to admit they crossed the line...Howard sucks, has for a while, and it is only constant issues like these and devoted long time listeners that IMHO keep his show going....

Like I said, technology has advanced and now it is time for media to follow suit, if people want to hear programming that some might consider offensive then they should have to pay for it much like they do cable television....you would think all of the uber PC liberals would be all for this since they take offense to the slightest thing.

Bologny it didn't. 750K in fines will have many people fired in many large companies. It had everything to do with it.

Today's show for those that could still hear him... All these summaries are taken from MarksFriggin.com which is NSFW:

"Howard said he didn't even know what to say this morning after he was taken off of six Clear Channel radio stations yesterday. He said he just found out about it last night and wasn't sure he should talk about it or not. He said he learned some stuff off the air and he won't be talking about any congresswoman today. He said that it's obvious that free speech isn't so free. He said he was going to try and be smart and try to get them back on the air on the Clear Channel stations by Monday but it's possible he'll be fired from those stations.

Howard was saying that he was going to say goodbye to everyone this morning just in case something else happens. Howard said that Clear Channel admitted to him that they did this, not because of anything he said, but because they are being dragged in front of congress. He said that they're being forced to say that Howard said something racist on Tuesday and that's why he's being kicked off the air on those stations. Howard said it was a caller who used the N-word that people are talking about. Howard said that he's really tired of this stuff.

Howard said that the ridiculous thing is that anyone who doesn't want to hear this stuff can just throw out their radio."

I am completely aware that my comments about Bush had nothing to do with this particular instance and I didn't mean to point out any one political figure but I merely meant to state that government in general needs to have a direct separation between religion and state. Bush definately does try to push out his Christian beliefs on to Americans, he is trying to do it with the same sex marriage thing.

Leave it for those of us that do listen to it.. Jesus, America is so damn sensitive now... You literally cant say anything anymore without someone getting pissed off.

In the immortal words of Biff Tannon, "McFly, McFly....Hello!!!" try reading the thread, again while that is fine for adults and the like children don't have as much common sense and many parents don't have the capacity to police their kids every second since they are trying to provide food and shelter.

Wow... guess we should get rid of Music and Movies too since clearly parents have NO control over what their children do. Christ today's music is probably 10 times worse than what is said on Howard Stern's show... Freedom of speech my ass.

Shoot yourself in the ass a few more times McFly, Movies on public television are already subject to editing for content and those in the theatre carry ratings which are supposed to be inforced, not to mention lude videos are sold in adult only stores....with re. Movies, again they have ratings stickers on them.....

So, if I'm an agnostic and I'm for banning same sex marriages, does that mean I'm trying to push my agnostic views on everyone?

Also, what bugs me the most out of this Bush/Christian bashing thing is that noone, and I mean NOONE was complaining about this when Clinton passed the Decency Act, or pushed the V-Chip on manufacturers or when Gore and his wife started up the PMRC. Where were you same people crying about this, when these things were going down? maybe you were too young to understand or care?

Not Stern, ClearChannel was fined for 750K due to some show in Florida recently. This led to decision to crack down on all of their content.

And Infinity, actually Viacom the parent company, was fined well over $1M last year for radio broadcasting decency violations.

I can think of the countless times when i was 15 where i could walk into a store and buy R rated movies, Parental Advisory CDs, and M computer games.... Im not talking about movies on TV. Stores dont care, they just want the cash.

I'm just saying, when do children have time to listen to Howard in the morning? When they get ready for school AT HOME (most of the times with parents)... when their Parents DRIVE THEM to school? I dont remember ever having radios in school I could listen to. Oh thats right because they would have been confiscated. So tell me, bozack, when are these kids listening to the radio show?

I was right there bitching about those things too. Tipper Gore is a prissy little B#$#$ which is why I didn't vote for Gore in the first place. Give her the power of First Lady and we probably be worse off than we are but that doens't mean I cant stand up for my rights and disagree with what the FCC is trying to do. And to be perfectly honest instituting the ratings system was fine with me and a great idea. It gives parents an idea of what content they can expect from certain show while not infringing on my rights.

guess I grew up in a different time as radios were never confiscated, however Stern isn't the whole issue, just part of it....you know what they say about making an example of someone...

personally I am all for radio moving towards paid formats like premium cable for racy programming, then if you pay you are guaranteed commercial free and they can say whatever they want.

In a way I partly agree with you... Im just saying you cant blame Howard Stern if your child hears it. You cant blame the station either, despite how controversial Howard can be at times. The show is designed for adults. As another example, take a look at the tv show CSI. They go pretty in-depth with dead bodies at times which are not appropriate for children to be viewing. Now if some 8 year old sees that and complains, is that CBS' fault? No. Im not 100% sure but i think they put a warning in front of that. And anyone who has ever heard of Howard Stern can figure out that its not going to be suitable for children. I just disagree with the whole knocking Howard off the air because a caller on his show said the N-word. It wasnt even HIM that said it.

Regardless of how you feel about Stern (my read-its sophomoric humor done very well) this case clearly illustrates how absolutely wrong it has been for the government to allow concentration of the public airwaves in a few companies. In my market, for example, ClearChannel owns five of the commercial radio stations.

I hope this backfires and bites ClearChannel on the *ss, big time. Its about time to break up these monopolies. The airwaves should mirror the diversity of America, not the viewpoints of one or two corporations.

One of the very bad things happening now is lazy parents blaiming others for their lack of securing their children's lives. They push for laws to 'baby proof' society so they can talk on their $600 cell phones in their $60,000 SUV's while they leave their children unattended somewhere.

Those that would be in control of these laws are now aligning themselves this way, getting easy votes from the stay at home moms that are in the perfect positions to raise their children properly, but choose to cart them off the school quickly and hit the day spa and shop.
