Has Newegg.com turned to garbage?

Checkout NCIX for weekly Sales, if you haven't. I'm not sure how competitive they are, but I get all my hardware from them.

I have bought from NCIX numerous times in the past. Were always my go to store.
Now, with 2 Canada Computers locations in town, I rarely buy anything online. I used to buy from Canada Computers' online store also FWIW.

Newegg.ca is also a great choice, I have had a few orders there in the last year. Shipping is amazing, next day is common with the cheapest shipping option.

I've never had any problems with NE. Customer service has been excellant for me and no probs returning whatever I needed. It's been awhile though since I've ordered. At least a few months.

If you ignore all their third-party distributors it's the same newegg as it's always been...not the very cheapest price but super fast shipping & good customer service.

I've been growing to dislike newegg lately because of all the third party crap they mix into the search results... kinda like amazon. With amazon, I can at least filter out most of that stuff, but I haven't figured out how to do it on newegg.

The constant need to squeeze more profit out of everything seems to kill businesses all the time. I know Newegg doesn't make this kind of jack but really, when is making $5b a year not enough? That's right, when people think your company sucks and is stagnant because it only makes $5b a year every year. That's not good enough, you need to sell auto parts now so you can then make $5.1b a year.

Then they almost invariably find that all they can do is suck at everything.

I just ordered a new stereo and supllementary equipment from newegg. If you dont' have prime, thier free shipping is much faster. Also since most things ship from the NJ warehouse for newegg, it arrives in 2 days instead of 3.

I do however price check everything between newegg and amazon. I happened to get my stereo from newegg even though it was $50 more, it came with a "free" set of 5.1 speakers (which I happened to need).

I haven't noticed any of the things that I like about Newegg really deteriorating as they expand their offerings. The site is larger, but the search works well and I can still find what I want. They still have a great selection of stuff, great service, and a good customer review/feedback system. Their prices are almost always competitive. It isn't the same old Newegg but I don't get all the hate. Is Amazon really better for parts and electronics?

Well the small sample size of only about 5 or 6 things bought online over the past year or two, (SSD's, Lappy, External Drives, etc) Amazon beat the pants off Newegg every time on price.

They do, but Newegg and Best Buy are both being used as showrooms for Amazon by many people, I'd wager. True, Newegg is online but as I mentioned earlier, when I need new components, I'll go to Newegg to use their powerful search feature and read reviews there. I'll then go plug the part number in over at Amazon and generally buy the components there.

Plus you get 3x the points at Amazon!

Didn't read the whole thread, then saw this. I do the same thing. Newegg's service USED TO BE GREAT. We're talking 3+ years ago when they got orders out the next business day and actually packed your stuff worth a damn. Now, I use Newegg to look at pics and specs and buy from any reputable etailer that is substantially cheaper. Newegg packs like crap and takes 3 days to ship your order no matter if you pay the SuckerCharge, AKA "Rush Processing" fee of $2.

I have not had any problems with them personally. I have made three orders through them in the same number of weeks and they all shipped out the next day (with exception of the order placed Sunday that did not ship out Labor Day, but I blame the lazy liberal usps of the government for that, not newegg) and arrived within the quoted free 2 day shipping they were advertised as having, all without need for paying for rush. Perhaps I just have a better shipping center?

In any event, what is it exactly that makes everyone say it is not as good as it once was? Does the fact that they sell more things of a variety you are not interested in some way somehow take away from the computer parts you yourself buy?

I haven't really ordered much from newegg recently (years ago I used to order entire builds), the last thing I ordered from them was a 27" asus monitor around a year ago and a 32gb sd card a month ago. Both items came in a timely manner and finding the item / checkout was painless.

Not sure where you get your information. Newegg is still a very good place to buy things.

Just bought two SSDs over the weekend and had them in my hand by Wednesday with free shipping over a long weekend.

Their search engine beats the pants off everyone else's; this is true. IF I can get a deal there (sale, free shipping, rebate, etc) and IF I don't need the thing w/i the next 2 weeks, I'll buy there.

My biggest complaints are with their shipping speed and packing, in that order. In my very recent experiences, the last two orders I placed both took 3 business days (not including weekends!) to ship. That "free shipping" seems to mean "We'll ship when we get to it" at NE. Unacceptable in my book. And, the item was thrown into a box way too large for it with a few scraps of brown paper for packing. This is IME. YMMV.

I still use them just not nearly as much. I feel customer service has taken a nose dive at Newegg. They had me pay for return shipping on a product I returned last time. That's fine. You saved $14 but I've bought everything since then at Amazon. Good move Newegg.

This and the 20% restocking fee (even if the item is defective or not suitable for the job it claims to perform) unless you contact customer support turned me off completely to them. Like others in this thread have said, search on Newegg and then buy elsewhere (normally Amazon).

Hmm - could be the shipping installation that you are closest to - where do you live?

I am on the east coast and have never had issues with their shipping speed or their packaging.

This computer I built last fall, I got half the components at Microcenter (one located about an hour away) and the other half at NewEgg. A good sale at Microcenter steered me there for mobo/cpu, and some other components that were priced roughly the same as Newegg. Newegg had better prices or better selection for a few other parts I wanted/needed though.

I don't think I checked everything at Amazon, but I think a few I did and the pricing was basically the same. For convenience I just stuck to Newegg - and I've never had a problem with them anyhow.

I've never sourced any build 100% through Newegg. I've always had some components from one shop or another. Back when Googlegear was around (then became ZipZoomFly), I remember having upgrades sourced from both stores roughly evenly split.
