Newegg just went up and beyond for me.

Last night I ordered PSW505 sub and CS1 center speaker....noticed the Center spearker on sale today ($10 less). I emailed them and even though their policy prevents them from price matching....they did it anyways and will give me $10 gift card.

Turned to garbage definitely, old Newegg would have given you $20.

I don't mind they shifted focus to other items. I do miss their always the lowest price, but their search and having everything come from one source is great. Their shipping is still fast for me, ~2 days usually, even on 3 day shipping and their packaging is better than most. Amazon usually ships me stuff with the paper on just the top, so it doesn't bounce around in the box, but the sides and bottom are totally unprotected. They are counting on the retail box to protect the product.

I do however hate the ads featuring that preppy Asian guy pitching back to school products. I don't know why, it just really got under my skin...

I use Microcenter (local) and Amazon (Prime) for the most part now. Newegg's search is still good, though it seems like they keep fiddling it up and generally weakening it. However as an archive of old parts, and for product photos it is awesome. Last couple HD's I ordered this spring were packed okay, fwiw. The shipping sucks compared to the old glory days of fast shipping and Fedex Super Saver. When you start using the retarded DHL to mail service (which takes it to the Chicago post office for me...I live in the Detroit area) it just sucks.

But yeah...the days of all my computer parts coming from them are long gone.

I use Newegg's site only to look up computer parts and that's it. The ratings are still there, and the Companies will actually respond to your ratings in certain cases on there.

The problem with Amazon is they have a TERRIBLE search set up. If I want to search for something specific, they don't have the options to do that and I have to weed through half-assed results showing me fans and plugs and power supplies when all I want is to look at their case selection with 6 fan slots...

Seriously, they have an awful search engine. If you're not looking for something extremely specific (after searching on Newegg), you're not going to find what you want... unless I've been using Amazon's search all wrong for the past... 7 years..

Hmm I ordered Windows 7 Home Premium from them on Monday, and it's on sale today. I wonder if they would do that for me too. I was tempted to wait, because Windows is on sale almost every other week, but I wasn't sure if they would have a sale soon since it wasn't on sale this weekend.

It is a $20 difference though, which would be nice to recoup! :)

For me, Newegg jumped the proverbial shark when they went from being able to compare any number of products to limiting the compare to 5 items.

x2. I can search for something very specific, and while it will probably show up in the list of results, there are also a billion other things that range from closely related to entirely unrelated by any stretch of the imagination.
