Thanks TechBoyJK. I got it working now. With the x360ce tool. I managed to map my joystick axis to gamepad axis. Even when I'm in a car, and driving forward/backward is not done with the thumbpad, but with the two big trigger-buttons. I even got my joystick to automagically change modes when entering/leaving a car. (When I press the f-button, it automatically switches modes). Very convenient. Analog movement on foot, analog steering in cars, and even analog acceleration and braking. And the big benefit is, while I do this with my right hand, I have full control over my camera with my mouse (trackball) in my left hand. Gamepad users don't have that.

I'm still very early in the game. I've spent a lot of time just driving around. Watching the views. And messing with my settings. I just did the mission where you have to follow Michael's boat. I would not have been able to do that a few days ago, with binary controlled movement. But now it was a breeze !

I'm planning to buy a gtx980ti. I want to run this game in ultra mode. I can hardly control myself of buying another (slower) card right now. I need to control myself and wait a few weeks .... This is the first time since Skyrim I actually want a new videocard.

Not sure if it was mentioned or that you are aware, but there is an option to lock the viewing mode (first or 3rd) to on-foot/driving. I prefer FPS for on-foot, but 3rd person for driving. This feature is nice because it locks your setting to each mode. So when I get into a car, it auto switches to 3rd person.

Picked this up a couple weeks ago but don't really know anyone else who plays. Looking for competent players for heists and contact missions. Also need most of the vehicle mod unlocks. Surely there are other noobs out there needing race wins. Apparently there's a race you can do in 30-45 seconds if set to one lap. Trade wins? Get sweet vehicle upgrades? Don't even have turbo unlocked yet :(

If anyone's interested, add "poesbru." Currently rank ~55. All skills maxed except strength. Have all weapons available at my level and an armored kuruma for easy mode missions.

Until you play the poor single campaign that is an advert for online and see plot points and areas dead end and go nowhere. Strip out the heists (online ad hint hint) and this is the worst GTA game post III plot wise. Sandy Shores, Paleto Bay and Grapeseed don't feature apart from a brief heist and some throwaway random missions. The caricatures er characters are barely fleshed out either.

Why must it be part of the single player campaign? Why can't parts of the world exist just for the sake of existing?

If I had to name some downpoints with the single player, its that many of the freaks and strangers don't have a backstory available to them and once youve done their hand full of missions you never see them again. I also think the non marked situations you discover some of your future heistmates in offered a wealth of story and missions that was never taken advantage of. Saddly we will probably see no additional single player stuff as rockstar seems squarely set on their online content. On the plus side, there IS plenty of additional content dealing with new missions and heist available online, you just have to deal with other players.

Exist why. You have Cluckin' Bell that is a part of GTA lore that isn't explored at all say except for 5min as part of a heist. And if you are thinking Packie as part of a random event, fine. The strangers and freaks are another example of dead ends. The Vinewood souvenir missions are GTA gold as are the Beverly bits. Others don't really go anywhere like the Altruist camp
which you kill eventually
but really they could have been so much more and Trevor yelling about the problems baby boomers have caused is hilarious. And I blame online trash. Single player gaming is dying out. Once it goes so do I. May as well read a good book nowadays instead of spending money on another MMO or multiplayer rubbish.

The only giveaway is that the HUD will display button commands based on the last device to give it input. So if you are using the controller, it will say 'Press X to skip' but if you touch the key/mouse it will say Press 'Enter'.

The dual combo works smoothly, imho. I actually really appreciate that I can flop between each input method casually.

This is actually really cool, I don't use a controller but I still really appreciate the effort to make this work in case I want to give this a go on my sofa with a controller.

Of course a 980Ti would be "tempting" (except that it will probably cost a fortune), but to be honest, I am entirely and totally fine with my GTX 970. You will laugh, in the quick test I did on wife's system (admittedly only a minute or so in the starting mission) it even looked "decent" on a GTX 660 TI. On first glance I didn't even see a difference.

Edit: OF COURSE...the question would be...whether a 980 TI would enable one to run this on Ultra or at least the settings I have now....WITH INSANE DSR RESAMPLING ON. But then I have to say the AA used in this game right now (without any resampling or DSR) is amongst the best I have seen. (I am using MSAAx4 and FXAA) and jaggies are a lot less noticeable as in many other games. Most other games you can turn up AA how you want, it's still jaggies galore.

Honestly, this is one reason I am glad I got this back on PS3 when it first came out and I did all the online stuff as soon as it came out.

Managed to get an apartment + 10 cars for free (back in the early days of online people were literally giving everyone in the lobby $100M+ at a time through a money glitch) when rockstar finally fixed the money glitch stuff, they let everyone keep whatever they had purchased (house, cars, guns, etc). But they emptied the bank account otherwise.

That left me with almost every unlock in the game, 10 fully decked out fully modded cars, and like $50k in cash.

Now I stopped playing not long after this, figured i'd wait for PC release, that has finally happened, and I still have all my stuff in online.

I'd hate to actually have to put in real hours of "work" in order to get some of these unlocks, I did a good bit of racing on the PS3 version at launch when there were large lobbies of 16 racing all the time. Now I have the required wins to get turbos and other stuff on my cars, I doubt i'd have bothered to do it now, but since it's already unlocked from my previous playing I can't complain.

Did you even find any of the stuff hidden in the internet (via the phone in the game) that lead to in-game missions? Like the Epsilon Program?

See if you just did the stuff labeled on the map with a giant M or T you failed at playing the game.

Yes and that self help thing you keep on giving money to. Doesn't excuse the crappy plot.

Well, I invite you to go build a franchise, wrangle together a massive team of developers, raise over $250million, and make something better. Because if you're this picky, I'd like to see the game that meets your standards.

He's entitled to his opinion. I think he's wrong, but the argument of "well why don't you go make something better" is just absurd. Have you never criticized anything in your life? One need not be an expert in game design to offer an opinion on whether a game appeals to them.

You keep saying there's nothing to do yet everyone keeps posting stuff to do(and you call it crappy). That's the issue here. Not what you think of the actual story.

I guess you just hate the game. Oh well.

Anyway back to the topic of the game. One thing I don't get is why rockstar made the bikes top out at such a low speed. I mean they have a Suzuki Hayabusa clone in the game called the Shitzu Hakuchou and it can't even top 140 according to the speedometer. Even when fully modded.

The game keeps switching off "auto-save".
Any idea why ?

When I start the game, and I've set the settings to "start into story mode" in stead of "start into online mode", then GTAV will warn me that auto-save is turned off. And it will not load the latest savefile. In stead, it starts a new game.

Even when I change the setting to "autosave on", then exit the game, and restart, the problem is there again. Very weird.

So I set my settings to this.
Landing Page - on
Startup Flow - Loading into Story Mode
Autosave - on

Then I exit.
I start the game again.
I go into the landing page.
I look at my settings.
It only shows the first 2 lines: Landing Page and Startup Flow.
The Autosave setting is not there.
I click on "storymode.
A new game starts.
I look at settings.
All 3 lines are there now, but "autosave" is turned off.
Weird.

Edit: just renamed the GTAV folders in my Documents folder. Started a game. All settings have reset, all savegames gone. Good. I play the first mission. Save games. Exit game. Start the game. Same issue. :(

I'll try reinstall the game. Thank god I got the DVD-version, and not the steam version. Still gonna take a few hours.

I've already said the Yoga and Tennis and Golf and other crap is one issue, the biggest one is the protagonists and antagonists are not fleshed out at all. Its you against some corrupt coppers which is generic tripe, the Chinese angle goes nowhere, Trevor and Sandy Shores is just abandoned. Franklin and Chamberlain Families feature in 2 or 3 missions then the hood vanishes for most of the game before Lamar pops up again. Michael's film studio thing dead-ends and his family isn't really integrated at all (though Rockstar does try at least). Outside LS, there is little plot or integration with the game world. The plot sucks. And don't mention that retarded ending choice.

I gotta agree, Im only half way through it and Im bored to death with the story and side missions. The game is technically amazing, it looks and runs great but I believe they really missed the mark with the story lines. The best things back that were missing in GTA4 are the rampages. I love me some rampages, I usually just wind up going on my own cop killing rampages after playing a story mode mission or two.

The story mode was good enough, but that shit lasts maybe 15 hours anyway. I think the real draw is just the world itself and gta online. The possibilities are endless as to what can be done. There's so much detail in the vehicles and how we can control them, and such a great balance between fun and realism. It's a huge playground.

This guy made a drifting video made entirely with the rockstar editor. Check those skillz! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-0HLBTXSvg

Just look at what can be done with even a lowly bmx (to say nothing of the motorcycle insanity that's possible) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=We4rK52JOvI&index=11&list=PLsjIFNA9MLt1-JagvrfamWU0nTUtSG5tX

Definitely wouldn't have bought the game for the story.

Am I the only one who's just not that into the game?

I just finished the submarine mission (stats tell me 20% complete?)... and frankly I'm quite bored and have little motivation to play forward.

I REALLY appreciate the amazing world, ridiculous attention to detail, and tons of crap to do. But all in all, it still ends up being quite shallow.

The core gameplay needs to be fun... shooting is bit lackluster compared to other 'shooters'. The driving actually gets bit old. You frankly don't have THAT much freedom as having cops chase after you gets quite old, so is escaping them.

It's absolutely gorgeous and I like to imagine I'm on a roadtrip between Los Santos and the countryside top.

But the game is really lacking that 'hook' for me. I think I had tons more fun playing Skyrim which is a similar beautiful sandbox but with much in-depth gameplay.
