If you want to change the law, fine, go try to do so. But while it is still a law, it is illegal.
Some of you people are being too hard on the guy.. if you haven't done anything dumber than this than you haven't lived. He just happened to get caught, Lord knows I deserve a lot more on my record than the nothing I have now.

...and to be more candid. After visiting Amsterdam, I can appreciate the underground nature that marijuana enjoys in our country. Sure, it's possible that with more widespread acceptance, things may be different, but as of now, Amsterdam is a damn filthy place, for all the wrong reasons.
My point, is that those that travel to Amsterdam don't travel for culture. Most of them are burned-out tour rats (N I should know--I've lived among them) or dipshit fratboys that want to get stoned and fucked by a window prostitute. So, the overall climate shifts from something (expected) of moral tolerance and low crime to one of high crime and dirty tourism. Sucks, b/c the city has so much more to offer than that. Though you would be hard-pressed, especially in the summer, to find an American, or any traveler visiting for the sake of Van Gogh.

), but the policy, at this point, attracts the dregs of society. It's really an all-or-nothing thing. Either it's legal everywhere, or it should probably be relegated to underground status.

This is so true, I used to work for a private contractor that did county work, infrastructure maintenance basically. It was a multi-million dollar contract, and it was HARD fucking work.
You wouldn't believe the kind of shit we had to do,
- Picking up trash along 3+ mile long two-lane bridges, both sides, while cars whiz by at 60mph, sometimes in the rain
Weed whacking, mowing, and edging along miles and miles of medians and sidewalks
Removing dead animal carcasses and obstructions from all interstates
13-14 hour overnight flagging operations, shutting down and directing all traffic through only 1 open lane of a busy highway, with the only form of communication to a guy a few miles down the road being a hand radio
Cutting down all dead trees along the roadways by hand with a chainsaw
Trimming all branches below 14 feet and making sure no roadway signs are covered by debris
Replacing delineators and signs that assholes just never stop running over/into
Hand shovelling all the dirt that would build up in sewer drainage pipes and under guardrails
Filling in potholes and chipped off shoulders
We once moved 60 ton of rock by hand and tractor under a bridge, 2 guys loaded rock into the bucket, 2 guys under the bridge placed it. That was a four, 14-hour-day event, fucking backbreaking stuff.
We put in A LOT of overtime. I can guarantee you if all the guys in county had to do that shit everyday they would shape the hell up real quick. God I hated that job. Shit, even the trash duty was handled by fucking volunteers, we had high school kids etc. that would come out and pick up trash along the highways in their spare time as part of the Adopt-A-Highway program, and thank god for them, because if they didn't do it we would have been responsible for it, and we had enough on our plates already. There was never a day where we didn't have something to do.

Two of the smartest people I've ever known were regular potheads (smoked 3-4 times per week). One is getting his Ph.D in some sort of biochemical field and the other is a very successful hedge strategist that easily makes seven figures plus per year.

No booze for the same reason as no pot. No cigarettes because 1) they're pointless and 2) they're extremely harmful. No coffee cause I never started drinking it "because everybody else was". Soda sometimes.
