Also - it wouldn't cost so much money to jail someone if they didn't bother giving them TV and weight rooms and other bullshit. Toss them in a cell, leave them there. Give them basic nutrition. Make them do hard labor working on roads, building things for the state, etc. - turn their "waste of taxpayer money" into free labor for the state. No need to pay them anything. If they run, just shoot them. They will stop running.

Why would you punish someone just because they did something to themself? Oh my, he smoked/ate/drank something. If anything, they're minding their own business while you are not.

Should someone be punished for doing something illegal?

Weed shouldn't be illegal so no.

Doesn't matter if you don't think it should or shouldn't be. The fact is that it IS.

"***** shouldn't be illegal, so I can do it!" wont' fly in court.

I know where this thread is going.

Up here to B.C.?

I made sure to copy your post so I can forward it to the police so that when you go and get that lawyer you will end up having to eat your own words 😛.

 Come here, possession under 30 grams carries a max of 6 months in jail or a $500 fine. No paraphernalia charges, just fines for people on the streets.

When I got busted with a dimebag I was given a ticket for misdemeanor posession and then told to be on my way, where is the OP that the laws are so draconian?

If you're in NY like your profile says, his situation could land you in jail for a year (because of the pipe).

Hrm, you might have a point - I had the bag and a joint, but no "paraphanalia" on me. All it was was a $50 fine.

Well if you are in college then Marijuana is mroe or less a right of passage, but if you are in real life and still sue it then you are pretty much a loser.

Oh yeah, TAKE HIM DOWN!

OP: Since you weren't arrested, and the other person claimed possession of it, nothing might come of it. I was with some people a few years ago that were arrested for possession, and two others caught with pipes only.

The two with pipes only weren't arrested; the cops took all of their info (like what the cop did with you) and told them they would be contacted or arrested if the judge or prosecutor (forgot what exactly) determined to press it. Well nothing ever happened with that. I don't know what the cop said to you and it could go either way, I'm just saying from what I read in the OP and what I know personally that nothing might happen. Also the college thing could help there since it might be a common offense and not went after as much.

Now, if you do get charged. As posted, a first time offense can often fall under some special provision where you can get probation + fine + etc and get it off your record. Whether or not you need a lawyer for this, I don't know. As clamum posted, 2/3 got a lawyer but all three got the same 7411 deal. It might be a good idea to try and get a free consultation to see how much it would cost then go from there (if money is the concern). Might not hurt to be on the safe side.

all you people are trippin, its not that serious of a charge, IF they even charge him, and it doesnt seem like they are, he would have wrote you a summons or arrested you right there.

worst case scenario you'll get a class C misdemeaner (the lightest misdemeanor), you'll do 6 months unsupervised probation, pay about 5-600 in fines/probation and be done with it...MOST employers dont care about misdemeaners, only felonys.

I've never smoked pot once. WTF is wrong with you pople who can't find any better way to spend your time than under the influence?

um... as was said before - use vs abuse. The people that are true potheads and smoke multiple joints a day to remain high most of the day... that's abuse, and while I don't care what people do with their lives, that's not exactly acceptable. But people who use it, more or less more responsibly, such as smoking a little bit to get high to relax or enjoy some event more, or basically those that smoke maybe once a week or less... hell couple times a week... that's just that 'use' category that shouldn't offend anyone. If it had never been illegal and always been accepted, you wouldn't have that opinion I bet.

To me, it's just like alcohol. How many people have a few beers or drinks most nights of the week, or go out and get drunk.
WTF is wrong with those people that they can't find a better way to spend their time than under the influence?! !!!!

See what I did there?
There is nothing wrong with being responsible and enjoying it on occasion, just like drinking or having good cigars. It's when you take it past that responsible limit and go beyond, that it just isn't right.

Maybe you should question what is considered to be illegal. Legality does not define morality.
