I played around 80hrs of Origins and have been playing God of War and God of War PS4 is only semi-open and only semi open in certain parts of the game. It's not a vast open world like Assassin's Creed Origins is. Also there's no sneaking around or stealth kills in God of War and Origins fighting is still extremely basic compared to God of War.
I respect your opinion but more or less gameplay looked same to me. GOD of war is PS exclusive that could be the plus point for its popularity, I do have prior experience with GOD of war loved it but new one looks odd to me.

Finished the story last night - game is amazing

haven't done all t he side stuff yet
Currently 4/8 valkyries
At the top of muspelheim
Only done like 1 thing in Niflheim

No, it does not sorry the only thing similar is that it’s 3rd person. That’s it

I've only been able to do one side quest from the blacksmith brothers. Looking for a ring in a cave and had to fight a fire rock creature. The other one is in a realm that I can't access yet. My guess is I'm still too early on to do that one. Where do the side quests show up?

Side quests show up from interactions with the npcs. There is one you get from an island with a ghost on it. When you light a fire enemies attack and a ghost will ask you to seek out others who need to be avenged or something like that. It seems like the first couple you get are best saved for later. I ended up doing the one where you have to find a whetstone that some thief had and had to fight enemies that kill you in one hit lol. I actually got through it by luck with dodging. Then when I exited I saw an ancient who had purple heath and killed me with fire about 5 times before I somehow got him. I think it was the same one you did. They seemed hard for my level at the time.

The one I did was in some caves off the coast, close to the rotating bridge. The one you are talking about I think is in feignheilm (spelling?) realm and it says I can't travel there yet.

I'd say this is the only confusing thing about the game, the point at which you actually can travel anywhere you want because otherwise the story objective keeps you going to the next place.

The one I did was fafnir’s treasure over by the world serpent

Didn't get to play yesterday but I'm hoping to jump back into this tonight.

I'm still in that "Alfheim?" realm and I wasn't understanding the puzzle with the door spinners after you escape the hive area, so that's where I left off last.

You have to use your axe to move the portions of the spinning circle. Inner, middle, and outer. When the portions line up with the symbols and match they will light up. So throw your axe to freeze the gear and watch as it spins. When the sumbols line up correct you can recall your axe and the freeze another gear and do the same procedure. You have to do this for each section, outer, inner, middle.

Nah not that one... I don't want to spoil it but this one is after you charge up that thing that holds the light for Atreum's bow or whatnot.

There's like 3 or 4 different doors and the whole puzzle is on a timer but I couldn't figure out what I was actually supposed to do.

Hmm I got past the part where you charge up Atreus's bow and I escaped the hive. I probably passed it but I can't remember. I can't recall where I'm at now because I stopped and did Brok's side quest where he sends you to get this other dwarf's ring that's somewhere in a cave nearby. Haven't received any other side quests in the realms that I can currently travel to so I guess I need to keep progressing the story.

Can you post a screenshot? No idea where you're talking about. I'm way past that at this point.

ive beaten the game so if you can visually show me i can likely help like dredd as well

I put in a few hours last night. It's OK since far. Still a button mash but not as much as the other games.

didn't get to play last night but I'll share a screenie with you guys tonight. the puzzle is definitely in Alfheim when you're carrying the crystals around; right after that giant roof closes up and it gets dark.

you trying to open that rune chest? where you move the floor up and down? some of the symbols are hidden by the floor you gotta move it like 1/2 way to see them

no thats where you end up and yes its just a chest puzzle and that vid clearly shows how to open the door, you should be able to go back out of that area and into the main area IIRC and then just follow the way out

once you manage to get to level 7 shit gets a lot easier holy hell

finished muspelheim and did the next set of challenges - you can literally just grind them for mats - which you have to do to fully upgrade stuff
Blades at max level
7/8 Valks (last one is in Niflheim)
If you pump points into runic you can literally take 1/4-1/2 of their health off on the opening burst by chaining Axe heavy + light runic into blades heavy + light with "murder of crows" and lightning arrows. if you use the Talisman that does the Time Slow effect its even easier to pull this off

Ill prob start grinding Niflheim tonight for max level Axe and that armor

I guess if you want to button mash but personally I take it more slowly and think about my move set more than previous GOW games.

You won't get far at all if you mash on the higher difficulties, as Anubis already pointed out. You will be quickly ripped apart by the stronger enemies. I love the combat, personally. It's both challenging and rewarding. I've certainly gotten whooped quite a few times but you just fight smarter. The old games all you had to do was push the dodge joystick when you weren't attacking lol

Going to continue once I'm done installing a 2tb sshd drive that I just got. Was running out of space and had to uninstall several games before installing god of war. I looked at that YouTube video for a bit and don't think I've got to that point yet. Or I may have well passed it and not noticed it. Maybe I'll have to go back and check. Although from what I see I think you need to hit the spinning things until you match all the symbols on the chest. There was one like this early on where you get to the mountain lift. It was also covered by poisonous gas.

I'm not sure how I feel about it so far, besides the graphics being great

I started on the "I want a challenge" difficulty but some of the enemies were just ridiculous imo. Even when I bumped it down to normal some of those rift challenges don't seem feasible for where I am currently. He's supposed to be a god, right? It seems like a choice between button mashing and tedious evading

The gameplay is my biggest issue so far. Some of it plays like Uncharted where it seems like the path of the game is too forced and mechanical, and some parts are too ambiguous and unclear. There are places where I want to explore, but I end up going one way without a way to go back. Do I really have to wait for a second play through? I just got to the part where you go to a new realm and things are even more confusing now. The balance between progression and exploring is not good, imo. And the story....eh

It's a good game, maybe a great one, but how much people are praising it seems overboard for me

Yea balance between exploration and story progression is confusing. That's something I can agree on but I think in terms of everything else including combat it's much better than previous games.
