High end cards are never "good deals" compared to SLI'ing or CFX'ing lesser cards within the same generation. CFX hd7850's will outperform an hd7970GE and cost noticeably less ($370 before $20 MIR vs. $440 before $20 MIR). If the GK110 doesn't offer the same bang for buck as SLI'd cards within the same family, it's par for the course in that regards. If it's $900 though, then that is an entirely different matter.
It depends on what's important to you. 7850 CF is probably 10-15% faster than a 7970GE, but you have to deal with multi-GPU and driver issues. Personally, it'd also mean I would have to buy another waterblock. There's a premium for packing that kind of performance on a big chip, but the benefits far outweigh the costs, for me at least. Also, if you're an early adopter you'll be waiting longer for the mid-range parts than the flagship.
I think Nvidia is timing the release to just a few days after Crysis 3 is out. So C3 will serve as the main benchmark in all the reviews.
It makes sense. Hopefully the game delivers graphically. If frames are lost because they're tessellating water under the level or running some nonsense SSAO algorithm it will be less than impressive (again).

All of you AMD cheerleaders who think that the company is doing you a "favor" by pricing their cards aggressively obviously don't understand business.

Interesting, and yet nVidia priced their GTX 680 cheaper than the competition and yet offered more performance and was more efficient!:)

This might be a stupid question but: This IS the 780 right? The one most people thought would come in April/May?

I've seen a comment or two on other sites à la "skip this card and wait for the 700 series instead".

That's why I'm asking.

This board needs cleaned up badly. People can't go a single thread without interjecting their personal crusades.

Do you not realize that you're a part of the problem? Re-kindling the fire is not a good idea if you're going to complain about that very fire. There's a good reason why moderators of just about every forum tell you to ignore the mess.

This is going to be the 780 Titan or 780TI, which will still have some fused off parts like the current GK110's in the Titan super computer. There will almost certainly be a second card a 780 non-ti or 770, with another fused off area.
And of course that leaves a refresh, or compiling enough full working dies, for a full working die sku. That could be Christmas? If this part comes out at the end of Feb? lot of guess work from rumor there.

That's a great question to me and raised a similar point in another forum!

If the name is GeForce Titanium; what will be the numbering scheme?

Is it not "Titan?" They already use the titanium designation on their cards, e.g. GTX 550 Ti.

I really think the $900 figure is incorrect or a red herring. That's almost the cost of 2 GTX680's. If it is released at that price point, it will really be more of a rare bragging rigths card than a flagship with wider appeal.

I think its price will be relative to the quantity of cards they can or intend to produce. It may not be meant to be very profitable in itself but rather just to claim the title of fastest single card. Brand image may be the intended outcome especially just after the release of Crysis 3. Nvidia want to see that card at the top of all the benchmark charts. And maybe hoping for a ripple effect that trickles down to other Nvidia cards.

The tessellated water has no performance impact when it's occluded. There's basically a couple obscure areas you can stand where it won't be occluded, but it won't have adverse affects on your FPS during 99% of gameplay.

If true, then two 670's for 800 is still a better deal and would be faster (minus potential SLI issues). For me, this is way the hell too expensive. Not because it costs $900, but because I always have to buy two cards and I am not paying 2 grand for cards.
For me, Geforce Titan will be a nice benchmark read over a cup of coffee. I can't even feed my two 670's with the games I play let alone two of these ridiculous things. I am an unreasonable hardware buyer, but this is too crazy even for the likes of me. 1.5 years after release, a next gen mid range card will come out and be just as fast and cost $400. That would make me absolutely vomit all over myself after paying 2k for these cards.

That is not out of the realm of possibility...I think nVidia and AMD have both done this.

No numbering scheme. If the price is correct, there will be just one card, the Geforce GTX Titan.

I don't know, based on the article, they offer GeForce Titanium, too. But let's say it is GeForce Titan or GeForce Titanium; what will be the numbering scheme? Will the sku have a number designation?

Its also not out of the realm of possibility for Asus to make a dual GK110 GPU card and charge $2,500.00 for it, LOL. It will happen and people will buy it ahaha.

This. I got my hands on a couple 690s after they were released and people happily paid me a $600 premium for them. It's just supply and demand. For those running a 1600P setup and want to avoid multi GPU issues, this could be a decent buy.

All I can say is that folks here b!tched when GK110 wasn't released and now they do the same when it is releasing. What a bunch of whiners we have become on VC&G. Sad.

I find this pretty logical, including price and launch date. They can charge whatever they want for the highest end single card on the market. NV sticks to being a premium brand and this launch has a strong marketing reason. They can launch the card before AMD because there is no way that the 8970 or whatever they'll be called can perform 45% better than the 7970GE.

I found this: http://videocardz.com/39143/geforce-titanium-the-allmighty-gk110-based-graphics-card

"Latests reports say that GeForce Titan(ium) might be launched in late February, which would suggest that the GeForce GTX 780 and 770 might arrive right after that. As for the name, let’s assume this would be another Ti branded card, since Titan sounds awkward, so it’s probably the GeForce GTX 780 Ti."

But that's probably just speculation as well. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Now that makes sense.

Indeed. The 512MB 7800GTX was released to take the performance crown but it was almost impossible to buy one. Might be another card like that.
