I speculated early in this thread on how things went down, and unless you assume the absolute worst, Nvidia was foolish at best. Not malevolent.
That speaks more of your character, than it does of mine.

You guys are mad, but the only people you have to blame are yourselves. Finding "NVIDIA LIED" is a fruitless quest. Kinda reminds me of the '04 election, "Bush Lied" amounted to a whole lot of squat. So does this garbage. Sometimes I wonder if wives tales and propaganda has taken over reason and logic.

You really DO think way to highly of yourself. I'm not about to waste my time trying to PROVE anything to you, sir. Your opinion means nothing to me. And I'm free to assume anything I want about NV, and I couldn't care less how it affects your mental state. Interesting, I see you're one of those new fangled "conservatives" too. What a surprise!!! Take it to P&N, tight-ass. Only the lonely would want to mix video cards with politics.

Why doesn't someone just accumulate a list of all the information know about the PVP in its various implementations i.e. what works and what doesn't, and have the Mods lock and sticky it for all to see? That way the information is available for all to peruse and there is no reason for any more threads on the topic :light: Don't even think of nominating me for the task, because I don't get down like that :p

My new video card will be from ATI.

There, I did something.

What in the world is that going to do. They dont have anything that Nvidia doesn't. In fact Nvidia does more acceleration than they do. Your logic isn't working right.

-Kevin

You're joking, right? Both LT and I not buying their cards during the next product cycle deprives NV of much-needed pocket grease. Multiply this by 10K and you have 20,000 hardcore gamers sending money to Canada.

"nVidia does more acceleration than they do?" "Your logic isn't working right?"

You ARE joking, RIGHT? You DO understand the idea behind an economic protest, right? :D

I have a new angle see, I'll just buy a nV card used this time. See, that way I don't actually give nV a dime since they already sold the card and I am just reimbursing the seller for a percentage of their cost :D I'm hammered if you didn't notice ;)

Oh, I'll come down hard on that drunken Punisher, make no mistake!

Punisher, I just PayPal'd $7.00 to you, next round is on me. If $7.00 won't cover a drink at your favorite bar, LMK.

Happy trails buddy.

There are worse things than being lonely housecat, and I've dated several of them. Don't sweat it, better days ahead.

i know yoru kidding, but i like both. i give nvidia the edge because of their ogl support, and equal in d3d. im looking into the x800xt (possibly x850xt pe), havent had a ati since the 9800 pro.. loved it, much better than the "ATI drivers suxorz" rumors let on.. but the OGL is disappointing for such expensive cards (in those days).
i think waiting on ATI to improve OGL is like waiting for pure video.. I've been waiting on ATI to do that for quite some time.
its the ati fanboys that disgust me, what a bunch of hatemongers.. any mistake nv makes and its time for another huge overblown hoopla.. than NV releases something like the NV40 and crushes their dreams like the olden days. :)

seems to me though that OGL has been increasingly becoming id software property only. though the unreal engines have it as an option too. and i believe WoW uses the Unreal 04 engine.

someone posted some WoW benchmarks and NV cards got a nice boost in OGL. http://hardware.gamespot.com/S...4-x-x-x&body_pagenum=3

again not much, but it is world of warcraft..

so how about that purevideo, working yet? :D

So, to make it better you take on the role of unpaid sycophant\cheerleader for a company that doesn't even know you exist? Gee, talk about wasted effort.

thats a zinger.

unfortunately, im still correct about this issue. no nvidia press release has announced its going to work. the mods locked two other threads on it.
end of story, theres nothing going on here but us flaming each other. in fact, if we stop.. this thread will die. thats how dead this issue is. so you should thank us for stopping this thread from sinking to page 29 within a day, you're getting alot more attention to the matter than you would.

not that its doing much.

Sorry dude, just declaring victory based on faulty, self-serving logic doesn't make you "correct." But in all that pap you've come up with a great idea. You can stop posting any time.

That's not quite true Housecat. As long as nVidia keeps revising their drivers, the people who want to keep this thread alive will keep on pointlessly posting, "WTF?! I tried the new drivers, it still doesn't work!".

How can you blame them with all this "conflicting information" available? You know, there is that one story from a Russian website and the checkbox in Rivatuner!

We need to get to the bottom of this mystery Housecat! nVidia telling us it will never work is just the beginning, haven't you seen the "X Files"?

nvidias driver team are very good, but some how i dont think they have the god like ability to alter transistor layout from within the drivers.

can i just ask, i know you have to pay for the decoders because of the royalties tied to them, but why are there royalties? how come nvidia dont have their own decoder for their own product? can some one enlighten me?

You can thank the DVD Consortium for this one. Anybody who distributes a (legal) software or hardware DVD decoder has to pay them a royalty of ~$10 on each one. Even if you write the decoder from scratch.

This is also why ATI charges for the updates to their DVD software (which is part of their MultiMediaCenter package). Legally, they cannot give the new version of the DVD player away, so they either have to charge $10 for it or eat the cost themselves.

They own the DVD standards (it's a joint group of the companies that came up with the specs for DVDs; I'm sure you can find a list of all the members somewhere). International copyright/patent law basically says: "If you own intellectual property, you can charge whatever you want for people to use it." They could have made it a free standard, but they decided (apparently correctly) that they would make a heck of a lot more money if they charged a small fee on each decoder/player, since they were basically guaranteed that it would rapidly become the new Hollywood movie distribution standard.

Uh, yay capitalism? I think? :p
