Sarcasm meter pegged...

Some ideas:

1. Feminism can only exist as long as it can perpetuate female victim-posturing. Thus "equality" can never be achieved.

2. With the rise of feminism-inspired no-fault divorce, female-friendly legal system, tax payer funded BC pills and abortions, and women's economic independence shortening the list of good-enough bachelors, the inevitable consequence is the growing number of single mommies dependent on government handouts. That doesn't bode well for how our future generation is raised, and especially not when men begin to realize that the whole commitment/marriage/provider role is not in their best interest.

I showed this thread and this post to my wife. She's laughing at your idiotic post as I type this.

So you're telling me that you and your wife have ignored the war on women's rights that the GOP has been conducting at an increased rate these past few years? Good to know that you've both never turned the news on or read a news site in the past half a decade.

Women have always been an equal part of the the "workforce". Only a fool would ignore the intrinsic value in keeping a home and raising children. Until recently (the last 20-30 years) this allowed the man to work outside the home and provide financial means with a single income. Today most women end up doing their best to work inside and outside the home and the strain has a negative impact on the family.

Western culture is a victim of it's own success. Not a mass conspiracy by "global bankers". Commercialism, materialism and the emergence of a disposable society have destroyed the family. We are victims of our own selfish wants and desires; driven by mass media bombardment that tells us we can and should have it "all" right now without working to earn it or appreciating what we already have.

Excellent post.

I think there have been great strides in women's rights in the last 100 yrs but I think the pendulum has swung too far the other way. Many families have dual incomes because they just want more stuff. Children become secondary to the ultimate goal of accumulating wealth. A new car becomes more important than raising and spending time with your kids. I see this as tragic when, because of want rather than need, mom gets a job and the kids are raised by the babysitter.

No, just your quote that conservatives don't think women are people too. Don't pretend to equate that one laughable quote with the entire women's movement of the past 50+ years.

Unmarried cohabitation that leads to offspring and later leads to a breakup is just as determental as 'divorce' proper. No doubt this occurance well out-weighs the minor decline seen in divorce since in the 90s over 80s.
the end result is that the standard by which someone is willing to get married in the first place has been raised. I view this as a wonderful product of feminism.
I agree.

PS

Why are you reading that journal?

Yes and no. It gets a lot fuzzier when you try to compare eras for that one. You could similarly argue that dual-parent households with an unhappy marriage are equally detrimental as divorced or separated households. In the past, it was expected that if a child was born out of wedlock, there would be a "shotgun wedding", which did not exactly create the best environment for children. This is especially reflected in the decline in domestic violence. (it is interesting that the majority of the drop has occurred among male vicums--I don't know what to think of that).
I agree.

I stumbled upon the review paper as the Limbaugh stuff was erupting. Since I'm a grad student, I prefer reading academic papers to articles written about academic papers.

me too.

So what's your grad in?

unhappy marriages are equally detrimental as divorced or separated households.
This is going to vary on a very idiosyncratic basis.

Mr. Pedantic said:
WTF do people mean when they say the family's been destroyed?
They mean that there is a lot of divorce.

And we all know that same-sex marriage is to blame. Because if Frank and Jim can marry each other, it's clear that David and Jennifer will fall out of love with each other.

yep, which is why the gays were so misguided fighting for marriage.

There is serious institutional bigotry against females which is directly linked to the assumption of "common sense" which comes from a white-male-dominance of said institutions.

Imho, Feminism and the ERA were artificial creations designed to destroy family (values) and degrade women. Also, global bankers realized they needed a way to get women into the workforce because only half the population were paying taxes. I miss the femininity that women used to display. Women are now deliberately objectified and de-feminized into roles more like the male species. Women are no longer revered but are "engineered" to appear degraded and dominant.

This thread is not about a specific relationship question and the topic itself would be better served in P&N, so moving from L&R to P&N.

TV censorship destroyed the family.

We can see someones head blown off on TV yet a boobie or a cuss word is censored?
All the violence will give us all PTSD years from now.
