Depends on the game and how high your San Diego is clocked. In general tests do show that say... an X6800 C2D vs. an FX-57 given the same card on a super demanding game(say Oblivion), it will show that the X6800 does give slightly better performance, meaning the CPU is a limiting factor, but again, "slightly", hence I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Especially if you're San Diego is running around 2.8Ghz+.

Frak. I just replaced my eVGA 7800GT with a BFG 7900GT from the BestBuy 30% coupon deal. Paid $208.

I can't justify getting this card now. Can I? Would I be better off waiting for the 7900GT's to drop some more and go with SLI over this card?

Someone talk me off the ledge.

Heh, it works! Well, $8.05 ground shipping to me. Perhaps I'll wait for ZZF to get it back. My thinking is that if multiple vendors have it for same price, then once back in stock should stay around that price, no? Also, maybe MSI version will become available at that price, with 1.1ns memory instead of this one's 1.2ns.

Man, EVGA's Step-Up program is a crock. I bought a 7900GT from MicroCenter back when they were on sale, $265 before $25 rebate. Now I went to EVGA's website to check out this card and see how much the difference would be to "Step-Up" to it. They naturally are charging $299 for it, more than any online retailer. I'd be better off returning my card to MicroCenter and just outright buying a 7900GTO from ZZF or the like, presuming they get them back in stock!

I hope your French better than mine but picts tell the story

Heck. Just pulled trigger. This one will unseat the aging 7800gt in my Dell.

No email confirmation from ZZF just yet since 10:30pm last night.
Is it unusual from ZZF? I've just bought bunch of stuffs from them in Aug and typically receive email confirms in couple of hrs.

Stick with the 7900GT for now and wait for Vista and DX10.
But then it sounds like you have quite a bit of money to spend so do what you want to do.

how are the stock coolers on these cards? I have seen pics on these cards and seems QUITE impresssive cooling, but are they as effective? what aftermarket cooler would you recommend?

And thanks! Just picked one up from mwave, $259.91 shipped 2 day.

The stock cooler is already very good and I believe part of it does go out the back of the case. What you could do and should for overclocking is reseat the cooler with AS5 and if you wanted to do 1 step more, get a fan and aim it over the graphic card.
Looking at pictures the ram probably does not have the best cooling, but it is much more than sufficient.

Ugh scatch my last post. I'm not sure what to say except again I find myself viewing conflicting results.
I do not know how much to trust this review, but:

Sorry I did not mention this in my last post, but a VF900 w/ a fan blowing right at it is perhaps the best 3rd party cooler as of right now. You do not need reviews to know about this. If you are a hardcore OCer (who does only air) get a VF900 CU + a fan and you will get some of the best air cooling.

I like to run a quiet system so my current card with the VF900 always runs at 45% or so.

Same here. Ordered around 11:30 EST. Order is still processing. Anyone get confirmation yet?

Very reminiscent of the 6800 "Special Edition" from NewEgg two years ago, that was actually a relabeled 6800 Ultra. Wasn't that from EVGA as well?

Ok, you guys all officially suck.

In for one @ $260 shipped 2 day from Mwave. What is 1.2ns memory good for OC'ing wise?

Nat

No email but status changed to packed.

Just recieved the email. I ordered this card and the Asus P5W DH Deluxe.
This completes my parts list. Time to build. Thanks OP.

Damn, I just got my X1900XT 512 last week, but personally I'd rather have this card. The X1900 is too loud and uses too much power for my system.

Anyone want to buy X1900XT so I can buy this card? 🙂 No, seriously.

Mine has now changed to 'packed' 🙂
Still no email confirm...Nah no biggy, perhaps one comes with tracking number anyway

MSI 20th birthday was one month ago iirc, so this 7900gto might be their gift to loyal MSI customers. Word in germany is that MSI will be shipping boards consistantly at least until x-mas. Plus MSI stated production volume beeing between 10.000-99.000. Iam wondering about the eVGA model though since MSI said this card was to be ´by msi only´.
