Ever ran from the cops?

What if a child was playing on the Interstate, there is no way you could have stopped in time. I hope you're happy that you got away. You know, a baby could have fallen out of someone's car on the off-ramp, and since you were speeding it would have been impossible for you to slow down and avoid hitting the child who may possibly be the one to cure cancer. It's people like you, those who drive fast, that make it so I'm not stuck behind a slow car on my drive to work. I hope you're able to sleep at night knowing this.

I never understood why this board was so anti-speeding, but it always was, is, and ever shall be.

I ran once...

I was driving down the parkway (about 25 mph speedlimit around lakes here in MN) and I was probably doing about 50 mph (an area between the lakes where there are no joggers or anything on the road)... I go through an area and I instantly hear a siren like a few hundred feet behind me. Some cop was hiding in bushes or something with his cop car, I never seen him, just heard his siren as I passed. Since its a windy road around lakes, and since I'm already doing 50mph, I haul ass (thanks for turbo charger) to the first street around the corner where he wouldn't see me pull off. I went around the corner, got in front of a parked truck or something of that sort, and parked and ducked down.

He went down the road and didn't notice I turned off and hid...

I then turned around and went back to where he saw me and went home, not the direction he went.

I was 16 years old, I'm now 31. I'd never do it again.

I'm pretty sure we've all done plenty of stupid things in our lives. Unless you're an idiot, you learn from your mistakes and move on, you don't brag about it and act like you've done something brilliant.

Exactly. Smart people who break the law don't wave flags around that say, "I did it!". Smart people who break the law also consider the worst case scenarios before breaking it.

I don't know...perhaps because racing against soccer moms in minivans on their way to daycare is not terribly impressive? 😕

I hope you crash, have your arms and legs crushed, and become a paraplegic living off of liquified brocolli for the rest of your life.

hypothetically, of course.

I haven't personally run from the cops, but I have never been approached/ticketed by one either. My friend has successfully ran from the cops on foot once, about a year ago, when they showed up at a grad party.

That fat slob? Yuck.
And I wouldn't be caught dead in a Ferrari, not with my Veyron out of the shop. 🙂

If there was a child playing on the highway it was only a matter of time before natural selection took care of the weakest link. If a baby fell out of someone's car than the parent/drive is an idiot and it's only a matter of time before the child start playing on highways in which case refer back to sentence 1.

//not sure if you were kidding or not...
//I sleep fine, btw, especially because of all the extra time I have from speeding to get places 😉

Good for you. I hope the 2 minutes you saved was worth risking the life of every one else around you.

Ya seriously. What you did could have easily landed you a set of clean crisp manslaughter or possibly even murder charges. Tell me, would you have posted this thread if you got into an accident and killed a child?

He was speeding and you turned him into a murderer?

Classic.

I'm pretty sure I know what road he was on. I do 75-80 all the time on that road, never get a second glance from the cops. I had a cop pull up behind me one time while I was going 75-80, I just moved over and he drove right on by. Everyone speeds - you have to give them a better reason than that to pull you over. Out of state plates is one reason, and the OP has out of state plates.

This thread is funny.

In the red corner you have the OP who is on an adrenaline rush from evading a cop and in the blue corner we have the moral judges of ATOT.

Fight!

And as a special today only, the OP gets a 2-for-1 deal, being added to the "official ATOT fucktard club".

If the lights aren't on, then you aren't running. I don't see the issue.

Now a real wierd one that happened to me years ago was when a cop flashed me the lights for speeding on I-5. I go to pull over and he pulls up alongside me and over the PA tells me that I am to follow him so he can catch another speeder and ticket us both. I nod okay and he takes off at close to 100 mph. For obvious reasons, I didn't follow, and I never saw that cop again. 😛

i don't think its anti-speeding, its just anti-stupid, anti-do-things-that-could-hurt-others-for-your-stupidity, and anti-bitching-about-getting-caught-when-you-break-the-law-and-try-to-get-out-of-it.

Hahaha. In this case you'd be out numbered and would have gotten your ass kicked.

Agreed, from a legal perspective, I'm clean. I'd bet a penny that he was coming after me especially given that he slammed on his brakes and stopped when I pulled off the highway but had he actually gotten behind me after that I would have pulled right over and just gotten a speeding ticket (and maybe an ass beating). There's no way an eluding charge would hold up.

Outsmarting a cop is more fun than running from them

... esp. when they realize they you've made an idiot out of them and you know that they're mentally mastubrating to the thought of beating you to a pulp 🙂

Seriously, if the cop had a dash cam that caught your plate then you = fucked. What's that speeding, reckless endangerment AND evading the police?

Wow...I am going to go out on a limb here. You don't have kids? Do I win the prize?

I am an excellent parent and my child is 4 years old, and I feel I can speak for all parents when I say that it is truly amazing how quickly a child can run from you when you turn your head for just 5 seconds. No matter how good of a parent you are, this just happens sometimes. The child isn't stupid. It's not about "natural selection". It's just a child. On top of that, you mentioned:

..so we are not just talking about the highway here.

Now be honest with me, if that exact case happened where a child happened to run out in the middle of the street and you killed it because you could not slow down fast enough, would you use natural selection as the argument to make yourself feel better about it? How about if someone else were in your shoes and killed a friend of yours who decided to J-Walk across a street and the driver was doing exactly what you did? Would you just say to yourself that it was natural selection and shrug the whole thing off as if it did not happen.

Come on man...all we are saying is that you should be more responsible just in case the worst happens you know?

But the threads where people complain are much more interesting than: "I got pulled over for doing 75 in a 65 zone. The ticket, after administrative fees, was $380, and my insurance is going to go up $500 a year. I hope that the town that collects this money is able to put it to use helping orphans find a family that will love them, and I hope that the increase in insurance costs can somehow be funneled to provide housing to those affected my hurricane Katrina."

Maybe, but I've got plenty of other people in my corner who have posted the stupid stuff they've done. It would be one big brawl...matter of fact that would be a pretty good game. 32v32 Wii brawl....could be like a Bloods vs Crips game or something like that. Guy from the other gang got freaky w your hoe so you and all the homies have to pull up to the corner and beat them down. I'm gonna copyright this and send it to Rockstar. 🙂

I've got you all beat. Once after a party a bunch of us went pool-hopping. Everyone was naked (and drunk), and the police showed up out front of the house. We all jumped out of the pool, but since everyone was naked, most people tried to get dressed and ended up being caught.

Not me. I grabbed my jeans and my naked ass ran about a 1/4 mile with the clang clang of cuffs and keys behind me, through a strip mall, around a corner, and dove into a dumpster full of trash. The cop was out of breath long before I was and by the time he got there, he must have figured I kept running.

Unfortunately, my wallet fell out of my jeans next to the pool, and they paid a visit to my parents the next day 😱
