Ever ran from the cops?

First things first, if you're that cop.....HAHA you suck! :)

I was driving today on a road I won't mention...3 lanes in either direction with a pretty wide median in the middle. I'm pretty sure it's a 65mph zone but it could have been 55. I was doing 85 in the left lane...most people were probably doing around 70-75. A large row of trees ended and there was a cop sitting in the median. As I'm passing him he starts pulling out after me, there was probably a 1/4 mile gap behind me in the left lane but I guess he took too long to get out and missed the window. Took him a while to get out but he does. I've got a little more than a mile to my exit by this point. I'm now in the right lane trying to get off the exit but there's a car doing the speed limit (god forbid) in the right lane and in the middle. I can tell the cop pulled out but he's stuck in a pack of cars (doesn't have his lights on yet, why I dunno). I cut over to the left lane, around these cars and back to the right as I see him break from the pack and start hauling serious ass after me. I'm still in the right lane as he's approaching with a pickup truck just behind me and in the middle lane and some car directly behind me. Just as he's passing the pickup truck I get off the exit at the last second and he slams on his brakes a couple hundred feet past the exit and finally puts his lights on. I haul ass up the exit and the job site I'm working at is a couple hundred feet from there. Pull in and the road curves around a bit then there's a guard station. Normally you're through there in 5 seconds but there's some construction vehicle doing something and I had to sit there in a line of 12-15 cars for at least 5 minutes before I could get in. Damn near had a heart attack especially when a taxi (Caprice) pulled in a few cars behind me.

speeding

cop gets pwned
happy dance for me

For all legal intents and purposes, let's just say none of this is true, the Easter Bunny was sitting next to me and all comments about speeding being bad can be redirected to /dev/null.

AnandTech does not condon bragging about breaking the law. I could leave this thread open for more PWNAGE of the OP, but I'm gonna go ahead and lock it, before it gets out of hand.

I wonder if they can take your license plate and mail you a ticket using your recorded address.

Good for you. I hope the 2 minutes you saved was worth risking the life of every one else around you.

Nice,

It would be funny though, if you went out after work and had a ticket pinned to your windshield with a note that said "Nice try asshole"..

Once in a car, turned down a rural road in Indiana and cut the lights. Saw him fly past. Just parked my car at my buddy's place and waited it out.

On the motorcycle? Too many to count.

When I was a teenager I did this at least once. It was dark and after going around a corner I pulled into a driveway, cut the engine/lights, ducked down, and nothing came of it. No ticket for me. I've since gotten two that I didn't deserve, so I guess it's karma: 2 , me: 1.

Which would have been exactly what I said if he had gotten me. It was obvious he was coming after me but from a legal perspective I couldn't have been charged with eluding. He should have put his lights on much earlier.

Whatever. If I was doing 120mph weaving through traffic you may have a point. Doing 10mph faster than everyone else mostly sticking in my lane hardly qualifies as risking the life of everyone around me.

And no, they can't mail me a ticket even if he did get my plate #.

Ya seriously. What you did could have easily landed you a set of clean crisp manslaughter or possibly even murder charges. Tell me, would you have posted this thread if you got into an accident and killed a child?

I ran from the cops a few times when I was teenager, but only for doing things like drinking on private property.

I've actually whipped off the next exit a couple times after passing a stopped radar unit while riding my motorcycle to avoid potential pursuit, but I never was 100% sure they came after me ... bottom line is that evading an officer is a felony & as such is hardly worth getting out of a moving violation so if you see a marked car after you its smarter to just pull over.

You're full of shit....this wasn't a high speed pursuit. He couldn't get out in time because of traffic, he failed to turn on his lights until too late, and good positioning and timing on my part let me get off the exit in time. You sound like you drive slower than my grandmother.

I was thinking this exact same thing. It's like people responding have never done anything illegal and gotten away with it.
