Eve Online

So I am playing the free trial of EVE. So far i've spent more time reading tutorials and reading the manuals online than playing. The game is incredibly deep. So far the gist of it to me is to start out mining/gathering resources to sell or go around and kill npc pirates to get money while learning skills. Then either become a prof miner, become a fighter, join/start a corp, or make money playing on the market. Is that about it? Is there more to the game then make money to do mroe things which give you more money? Are there end game galactic battles to join in or instances to fly through/quest to complete? I've done some of the agent missions but they dont seem fun enough to want to do forever because you either gather something, take something from point a to b or kill something. I know i'm being very general but maybe I can prod someone who loves the game to give me a rant on all the cool things to do so I can see what I'm missing. I feel like i could get into it if I see the purpose.

I used to be a hardcore player with 4 accounts (playing since 2004), but quit about 8 months ago due to wanting to invest the time into other projects. You're right, it's a very deep game, and I'm tempted to take another look once the Trinity expansion/update comes out. The best part of the game, IMO, is coordinated small to medium gang pvp in 0.0 space.

What parts about the game kept you involved for so long? Do you have to start more accounts to play mult ships at the same time?

Yeah most of the game is either NPC killing (ratting as they say), mining, invention & manufacturing (ships, mods, drugs, etc.), PVP battles (big and small fleets), exploration (scanning systems for hidden complexes with goodies), corporation and space control, Agent missions (Money and points to spend on a store), etc. I haven't played in a while, since like August. The key thing is to get in a corporation, that way you have people to work with and don't get bored easily. Also make sure it's a well established corporation so you don't end up moving all of your ships/mods to a certain area only to have them overrun. ;P

Reactivated my account last week. Trying to get back into it. The game is very deep and complex compared to other games. Trying to get my skills upto ~cruiser level then going to move into industry. Most likely startoff mining with barges and move my way up.

What kept me involved was the ebb and flow of player generated politics. For example, the BoB vs. RSF war in the south.. I still follow that on the forums.

The multiple accounts were for specializing in different ships. One was a capital ship pilot, for example, combat capable in dreadnaughts and carriers.

Do missions, mining, join a empire corp... get yourself a crusier or battleship

When you are ready... go and join an alliance corp... thats what this game is about 🙂

Been playing 3 years and counting (I did cancel my sub for a year though) There are very few MMOs that I've tried afterwards that are worth playing imo - nothing compares to EVE. I have 3 accounts, one from 03, one from 04 and one started in 06.

I suggest you find an empire corporation to help you out - the game will be far more fun that way. Also, check out EVE University. They're a low-sec 0.0 corp with ranks of both senior players and also noobs, and they have a great reputation too.

You back in the game, Czar? I remember you left for a while...

I guess you could call me hardcore. I've got a couple of accounts, the oldest being from 05. Been with my current corp for over a year and we're currently a member corp of Rule of Three. If there are any hardcore players that are looking for a new corp home feel free to message me in game. I go by Simon Monkoto in game.

I'm pretty harcore into it right now.

Training Cruiser 5 right now with a total of 6.4 Mil Skillpoints.
With my +4 Implants I have 27 Perception, which is awesome because I have a huge amount of perception based skills to do.

I have a good 30 mil in my wallet, and my corporation is is 0.0 so we have plenty of 1.7 mil isk rats in it. I am a great Drake pilot, I have all my tank skills to 4, and so, with 2 Invul Fields and a Ballistic Defelction Field and 3 extenders, I can perma tank every single rat in 00, 4 3 BCU's help too. And if i put 2-3 Core Defense Purgers On, I can perma tank every single T4 mission. Its kind of cool actually.. All of these Mods are T2 naturally.

Its also cool because my fairly large alliance is Waging war on a 10 man corp, who have like, 40 Mil Sp each, so they have been owning our Battleships ( Freaking Blasterthrons)

Well, enough of the BC Bragging.

Eve Onling is a great game, Trinity is now coming out, which will change Ravens from a flying coffin to a freaking pwnageboat. New Graphics are awesome, as well as T2 Battleships (Golem *Drool)

Finally a post from someone who is crazed about the game. I think I will keep playing it for a little while. Right now I'm basically training skills while logged off b/c I cant really do anything with my weak ship until i get better skills to get a better ship. How do you get millions of SP seems like it would take forever. I still havent broke my 900k alpha clone. Also, how did you find a good corp. What should I look for in a Corp? I'm Gallente and just using some of the frigates. By tonight I should be able to train into a gallente Destroyer. omg and I hate dieing and losing ships. Its the worst. Do you have any tips for a new player? thanks.

Beep beep, I'm a truck!

Are you a Goon, by any chance?

I'm one ^_^ Come pay me a visit in QS-530 ^_^

I would, but I've not met the 3 month requirement for Goonfleet, and would get blown up. 😀 It'll be a while before my character can pilot anything better than a Punisher, anyway.

you'll also spend more time traveling aand reading other websites, books, watching TV, doing other things while "playing" also.

As early as possible, training the learning skills up to level 4. Those, combined with attribute-enhancing implants, speed up skill point accumulation by a significant amount.

Keep in mind that no one (as far as I know) has yet cracked 100 million SP, and a number of people have been playing since the 2003 launch. Do the math, and you'll see that it just takes time.

I've been playing for just over a year and have 20.5M skill points right now. As your learning skills go up, you'll get skill points faster.

I usually recommend new players spend about 50/50 in time between training learning skills and other skills. The real way to do it is to do only learning skills at the beginning, but you need to actually play the game and earn ISK if you're just beginning. So shift back and forth.

There's a big difference in earnings power between lvl 1 missions (frigates) and lvl 2 (cruisers). Same if you can get into a retriever (2nd level mining barge) vs. using a non-specialized ship.

The corp I belong to is new player friendly and the only requirement to join is that you're no longer a trial member. We have a fairly number of newer players in Empire that run missions together and we provide free equipment and ammo and greatly reduced ship prices as well.

Recently we built a POS out in 0.0 space and we also have regions in low sec that we're fairly strong in, so we offer PvP as well as PVE.

Of course, we have miners and industrialists as well.

I find that being part of a corp can make playing much more fun. Unless you like being ordered around and lots of structure, try and find one that doesn't have too many manditory operations (we maybe do 1 mining operation a week and no one is forced to attend). There is so much to explore in the game that a variety of experience and perspective helps to have you bounce your ideas and questions off of.

You can contact me in game (myrdin potter) if you're interested or have questions.

Michael

Do you get any 'experience' type points for doing missions or anything. Or is that just to make money. Like could you just only login to train your skills, then like a month later worry about getting money ?
