Wait, wasn't there a Sarah Palin hung up on someones house for halloween? She was being hung by a noose as well.

Oh wait, Barack is black. Makes it MUCH MORE WORSE

Pretty much. Gotta love double standards.

The one of Sarah Palin was bad, this is worse, anyone who needs help figuring that out is a dumbass.

Yet the Sarah Palin one is still up (If I recall correctly). This one got removed immediately.

Anyone who does not see the double standard in this is a dumbass
The University of Kentucky is a public institution; removal was easy.

The Palin effigy was on private property; the college president can't just fly from Kentucky to California and have it removed.

Anyone who can't see the difference is a dumbass.

If a person truly has accepted that all humans are indeed equal it shouldn't make a difference at all. Both acts are extremely offensive because they represent the execution of someone with differing views.

Anyone who views either event as more or less insulting or crude because of skin color is a racist.

They are both offensive because they represent an execution, but the hanging of black men was a tool of intimdation that was practiced during and after slavery as a sign of racial tension.

I honestly cannot imagine that the effigy hung on personal property of the white female VP was meant as a threat/intimidation to all white women in the country. The converse is not true.

I wouldn't have done either, but I do see a difference. Just because we are equal does not make change the historical symbol of racial intimidation.

I didn't realize there was such a long history of lynching white women in California. Oh, there's not? Huh... Funny thing about Kentucky, for over a century they had this nasty habit of lynching black men. Now when the history of your state includes the lynching of black men as a part of it, you would be (understandably) more sensitive to the issue than a state that did not have that history.

The thing is, you have to take history into account when judging these sorts of things. Let's say I was walking down the street with a big swastika on my shirt, and someone beat me up... Hey man, it's just a Buddhist prayer symbol, stop being such a dumbass! Doesn't work. The history surrounding the swastika was changed by its use by the Nazis, and that history is what makes it an offensive symbol to us.

The history of lynching black men in Kentucky is very real; the history of lynching white women in California is non-existant. If YOU can't see the difference, you're a dumbass.

-EDIT- And just so it doesn't appear as though I'm defending the Palin effigy, I think it was in poor taste as well. I don't think showing images of people you disagree with being murdered is the best way to show your disapproval with their views. The Palin one being on private property means it's protected free speech, but I still don't agree with it being displayed.

Lets look at it this way:
An effigy hung on personal property specifically depicting a white woman dressed EXACTLY as Sarah Palin is NOT a threat or intimidation towards her?

BUT:
An effigy hung on public property specifically depicting a black man dressed EXACTLY like Barack Obama IS a threat towards him?

Soooo, when it is a threat towards a white woman it is a joke and part of "freedom of speech". When it is a threat towards a black man it is not a joke, 100% Serious, and is a "racial intimidation".

KYLE
Our main point is that the flag shouldn't
offend anyone, because killing has been
around since the bieginning of time.
All animals kill. And the animals that
don't kill are stupid ones, like cows
and turtles and stuff. So people should
not be so upset about killing.

CHEF
Whoa whoa whooaa! You just missed the
point entirely!

KYLE
Huh?

CHEF
I'm not mad because the flag shows somebody
gettin' killed, It's because it's racist!

KYLE'S TEAM
Racist??

CHEF
Children, don't you even know what this
argument is about?! That flag is racist
because a black man is being hung by
white people.

KYLE'S TEAM
Ooooooohhh.

CHEF
Ooooooohhh?!

KYLE
W-we really didn't see it that way.

CHEF
But that's a black man up there!

KYLE
Y-yeah, but... the color of someone's
skin doesn't matter.

CHEF
Well of course it matters when- ...Oh
my God. Wait a minute. You children
didn't even see the flag as a black
man being hanged by white people, did
you?

KYLE'S TEAM
No.

CHEF
Why, that is- that is the most beautiful
thing I have ever heard.

MAYOR
What?

MR. WYLAND
What?

CHEF
Don't you see? All this time I thought
these little crackers had turned racist,
when actuallih they were so not racist
that they didn't even make a separation
of black and white to begin with. All
they saw when they looked at that flag
was five people.

A FEW PEOPLE
Awww.

SOME KKK MEMBERS
Awww.

KYLE
Yeah.

CHEF
I'm sorry, children. I was wrong about
you. But I still the flag needs to be
changed. But now I realize that I almost
let racism turn me into a racist.

No you fool. Neither effigy is a specific threat towards either candidate. However, given the history of lynching black men in Kentucky, with no comparable history of lynching white women in California, one is a reminder of the horrific treatment of blacks at the hands of whites that occured through acts like lynching for over a hundred years during and after slavery. It is on a different level than hanging an effigy of any white woman.

A lot of people disagree with the Confederate flag being displayed, as well, for many of the same reasons mentioned. However, on private property, a person has the right to display it, bad taste, or not.

You can display a confederate flag on public property as well, last time I checked. Not sure what that has to do with this though.

You guys are trying to make one form of hate towards someone worse than the other. I am trying to say they are exactly the same. All politics aside, this is the only point I am trying to make.

Soooo, when it is a threat towards a white woman it is a joke and part of "freedom of speech". When it is a threat towards a black man it is not a joke, 100% Serious, and is a "racial intimidation".

I'm sorry, you didn't read what I wrote.

Both are offensive because they represent executions and are therefore representations of threats against the individuals.

The effigy of Obama is more offensive because of the historical nature of lynchings and racial intimidation. It is a threat not just to Obama, but to African Americans in general.

QTF, it's about 158.5 times worse.

Link to a book, Without Sanctuary's web site (look at it)

Link to said book on Amazon

the Palin one while is bad taste doesn't compare to the Obama one. Anyone on here please get back to me when I can purchase a Without Sanctuary book that's full of pictures of white women being hung. There is a huge difference here people. The Palin one represents hanging Pailin, not all white women, the Obama represents Americas history. Look at the link I posted, there are pictures of black people being Hung while white people stand around smiling and partying and taking pictures of the joyous occasion.
