I bet both are equally upset, and I bet you get arrested for both.

AH, someone from Louisiana chimes in on racism, eh?

So now you lump everyone in a region as racist, nice job there champ. This coming from the one trying to teach people about racism.

David Ernest Duke (born July 1, 1950) is a former Louisiana State Representative, a candidate in presidential primaries for the Democratic and Republican parties, and former Grand Wizard of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.

Your state voted him in right?

ok, thanks, now I know I'm a racist since my state voted a racist in to a small state representative before I was allowed to vote.

That means from a Europeans point of view, this entire country is racist. Since this country has voted racists into power at one point in time. Doesn't matter how long ago anything happend, we are all racists even if you voted against it. Do you know how stupid you sound?

Pretty much. Gotta love double standards.
Would it make you feel better if the president of the University of Kentucky apologized for the Palin effigy as well, then flew to CA to take it down?

exactly. and as I said earlier, until whitey can claim to understand the pain and anguish that many black families had suffered through lynchings, you have no business claiming "double standard."

I think if your family was put through that reality as early as 30 or 40 years ago, you'd be far more outraged about this than your current skin color "allows" you to be.

what about being burned at the stake in the witch trials? Fact is most blacks in this country were not apart of this. They are too young. Sure, there are some.

But to continue this kind of thing hurts race relations more than anything. If we could just live without the whole white/black things it would help so much.

What if he did a white effigy with the name obama on the chest? Would that make it better?

Fact is this is a horrible thing to do to a white/black/hispanic. To say one is worse is just ignorant. a crime is a crime is a crime. don't tell me it hurts someone else more because of thier skin color. If I hang a black person and a white person, both will die and both will have living family members hurt. They are both acts of evil. Neither life is worth more.

Your idealist fairy tale of social relationships in this country not withstanding, you just can't simply wipe away centuries of racial oppression because you say so. You can't reclaim an image for the sake of racial equality b/c you say so.

It's the same as the fairy tale of a gun-less country: sure, we'd be a lot safer, and better off (despite those that remain paranoid about the guberment taking over, or the king coming back...), but it just isn't going to happen.

There is no magic wand to sweep away the racism and history that exists. the VERY REAL PAIN that large percentages of our citizens faced. your trying to place your own definition of what racism is, simply b/c you think you can. UNTIL you have suffered the same pain, and even today, get looked at differently everywhere you go, YOU WON"T FUCKING UNDERSTAND.

It sucks, but it's true.

Anyone who views either event as more or less insulting or crude because of skin color is a racist.

this.

And it's not subjective, what's bolded above is FACT.

fact huh? lol, humm I remember a month out of every year while I was in school I learned about black people being hung, I don't ever remember hearing about a single white woman being hung.

You fail at proving FACTS. Your opinion means nothing, and if it was FACT we wouldn't have things called HATE CRIMES here in America.

If both had actually been hung for real, the one who hung Obama would have been brought up on different charges, so obviously there is a difference. The FACT you don't understand that doesn't change what a hate crime is...

When I heard about this I thought both were fucked up, but the Obama one definitely had more impact. Maybe because I just picked up the Without Sanctuary book a few months ago and it made an impact.

The fact that you so glaringly missed, is that making a difference based on race is RACISM (factual because that's the very definition of the word)

EDIT: Here's another fact to sink your teeth into. New Hampshire and Washington currently use hanging as thier state method of execution. (and IIRC Ohio allowed a hanging a few years back)

Is that offensive too?

How about the "Gas Chamber?" is that offensive to Jews (about 1000x many jews were killed by gas than blacks were killed by hanging)

you're equating federally-mandated execution as the same as PUBLIC MOB LYNCHING. Completely unrelated.

This issue symbolizes one of those. care to guess which one?

You aren't helping your cause here. You look painfully ignorant.

Care to explain how I know less about racism and race relations in the most historically racial region of this country?

White guilt is VERY strong with some in this thread.

Just say no to white guilt and embrace everybody as equals. It's the only way for real equality.

that's why I find it incredibly insensitive to belittle people who protest this symbol of lynching as "reverse-racists." It's an ignorant argument.

Racism exists on both sides, and it's not going away anytime soon.

Re: All the claims of

no history of lynching women

Link

From June through September of 1692, nineteen men and women, all having been convicted of witchcraft, were carted to Gallows Hill, a barren slope near Salem Village, for hanging.

Palin and/or her supporters could make a stink about it if they wanted - Palin = witch.

Otherwise, peeps oughtta keep their powder dry until the cultprits are found. Been too many occurances of the supposed "victims" doing these things themselves.

But the further you go south, the more racists there are. So since NC is south of LA, he KNOWS racism. Not to mention his brother's 4 cousin in law's son's arch enemy is a neoNazi.

White guilt indeed when you spew bullshit about a region, then claim you know because you're from there. :disgust:

No, they shouldn't dwell on it. But you can't simple "let go." Especially when you have incidents like this that act as stark reminders of this past, and that there is a concentrated group of people that hate you simply because of you skin color, and will stop at nothing to kill you.

The difference is that I've learned to accept that I just can't understand that pain, or the subtle differences in daily life that a lot of black people have come to accept--whether or not they were raised to "see it." I will never know what it's like to be raised as a black person, in a black family in this country. A lot of people in this thread are unwilling to accept that as well, and think that a magic wand will just clear racism from the land, so long as they simply ignore these "harmless little pranks" that keep popping up.

There are plenty of black people that don't live their lives thinking about this stuff. They aren't paranoid about "whitey," and just move on. I have a few friends with PhDs that worked their asses off, some of mixed-race families that grew up dealing with shit I never had to face. They shrug a lot of it off, but there are still the little moments in life they mention, where people do look at them differently, as if they are being classified as something else.

These are some of the smartest, most successful people I know, living outside of the South, still dealing with this. They aren't on the front lines of any "race war," and are far more interested in moving on with their lives, but this stuff still lingers around them.

I grew up one racist son of a bitch around my friends. happy? I know that had we stayed in that neighborhood when I was really young, It would have only gotten worse. It's like a vice.

I'm not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. I'm simply trying to point out that so many in here claim themselves free of racism b/c they believe shouting some holy mantra to purge white guilt, or "white = black; let's just get along!" is going to purge all the evils.

It doesn't work. By this logic, we should remove all teaching of our history of slavery in the school system to even have a chance with this message.

Is that responsible?

exactly. and as I said earlier, until whitey can claim to understand the pain and anguish that many black families had suffered through lynchings, you have no business claiming "double standard."

I think if your family was put through that reality as early as 30 or 40 years ago, you'd be far more outraged about this than your current skin color "allows" you to be.

At least you show your true racist colors. What other terms do you use?

I haven't yet found the proper term insulting to my skin color, so I freely use them all.

Are you white? I'm white and there is no offensive team to call us, any person who gets offended by being called a Cracker is hilarious and petty in my eyes. Whitebread, Peckerwood, Redneck, Cracker have no historical racist value what so ever. Some people just grasp at anything and everything they can to use as an excuse why they hold on to true racist feelings. A black person can at best, be prejudice, but they have no power in the US. And you need power for there to be racism.

and to Train, state execution is different, if you're hung in a state where it's the method used. It's not offensive because you were hung for committing a crime. Where black people were hung as recently as 50 years ago. My GF has a huge picture on the wall of her great grandfather hanging from a tree. It was incredibly morbid and I found it troubling to look at it. But it was a reminded to them that as far as America has come, it's still not equal, and probably never will be. You've never had to deal with anything like that face to face so I don't expect you to understand. The execution you brought up is punishment for a crime, Lynchings were a FUCKING PARTY for white people. The picture in my ex's home, there are white people posing and pointing to a hanging dead man while smiling and laughing. The 2 are nothing alike. If her grandfather had been hung for killing a police officer it would be understandable why he was killed. But he was killed for his skin color, and white people celebrated offing another Darkie.

The bottom line is I'm right, if I went out and lynched a white person it would be a crime and that's that, if i lynched a black man it would be a hate crime and carry a much stiffer penalty.

If you can't see the difference in the symbolism between the Obama & Palin mock lynchings there's nothing left for us to discuss.

But the further you go south, the more racists there are. So since NC is south of LA, he KNOWS racism. Not to mention his brother's 4 cousin in law's son's arch enemy is a neoNazi.

White guilt indeed when you spew bullshit about a region, then claim you know because you're from there. :disgust:

wat?

Living in the state my entire life (currently about 6 miles from campus) and knowing the people here, not suprising at all, especially the (people from) Eastern half of the state.

go kill a white women, then go kill a black man.

I bet both are equally upset, and I bet you get arrested for both.

AH, someone from Louisiana chimes in on racism, eh?

Explain. You say you have this intimate knowledge of race relations, yet you say that it gets worse the deeper you go? Why are you so privy to this information and he is not?

Mr. Nelson: There! Now you all see that I am not limited by my size. [Cartman comes alive again and laughs] I have proven my point! My work here is done! [waddles away. The kids begin to disperse]
Stan: What was his point?
Kyle: I have no idea.
Stan: Dude, I don't get it.
Kyle: I don't get it either.
Stan: [comes to a certain realization] Wait a minute. That's it! I don't get it.
Kyle: ...Huh?
Stan: Don't you see, Kyle?? I don't get it! [smiles, then walks up to Token] Token, I get it now. I don't get it. I've been trying to say that I understand how you feel, but, I'll never understand. I'll never really get how it feels for a black person to have somebody use the N word. I don't get it.
Token: Now you get it, Stan. [smiles]
Stan: [smiles] Yeah. I totally don't get it.
Token: Thanks, dude.

And you're ok with that? Hate crime laws are part same problem you are exhibiting.
