Edge is now the best browser!

I think the intro page can be excluded immediately. I'll be interested to try the other two pages out when I get home.

In any case, it's very likely that when some of the better ad-blocking/privacy extensions get released, that rogue ads will be even less of an issue. I've heard uBlock origins is being worked on.

You can use uBlock Origin in Edge right now. You just have to enable the ability to run unknown extensions in that browser.

Download the .zip here: https://github.com/nikrolls/uBlock-Edge/releases/tag/1.7.7b14-edge

Then follow these instructions:

* Once downloaded, extract the file to a folder.

* Open Edge and type about:flags in the address bar and hit Enter.

* On the ensuing developer page you then need to check “enable extension developer features”.

* Next click the three dots in the upper right corner in Edge and select Extensions then click Load Extension.

* Select the folder you extracted the file to.

* The extension should then be enabled.

* Quick note -- you will have to re-enable the extension each time you load the browser as it will disable every time you close the browser.

YMMV when it comes to how well it works but I've done it and it seems to work pretty well.

That's not the latest version for Edge.

There's been a few updates since then. Check out the release page[1] which shows all releases.

could have been the microsoft edge intro page or the microsoft store or noreast.com.
page animations need killing too, to bad microsoft edge can't do that either.

I had no ads on either page. It seems like there was an overlap of some sort where the extension was still not fully enabled.

On chrome now.
It works fine.

I think I'd rather have something I like. The purpose of my school laptop is productivity. I can charge it in most classrooms.

I just got a shiny new laptop and Edge keeps forcing itself on me. I think it sucks. Hiccups and stutters constantly. Bastards.

Is it the anniversary updated Edge? If so, the performance problems might be because you have flash enabled. The anniversary update really screwed up the browsers flash performance, and on my rig I was getting lots of lag and pauses.

Turning off flash fixed the problem completely. Flash is on the way out anyway (and it should be), so you might want to consider turning it off if you haven't already done so.

And no word on whether they installed an ad blocker in Edge. Ads make the web suck, no matter the browser.

You can get an extension that blocks ads now.

Except you have to log into a Microsoft account and install it through the store.

And the one that I tried (ad block pro) is pretty buggy.

In all its definitely not as good an experience as using one in chrome or Firefox.

I paused a dowload in Edge. Tried to resume it and no go. Googled it, broken feature. Had to start my 20gb dl all over again. Never used Edge since.

You haven't been reading this thread.

I tried to run Microsoft Edge on from the MS site in Wine, and the TryMicrosoftEdge.exe doesn't even work. No error message either, like "you need Windows 10" or something similar, typical MS.

Edge wigged out on me earlier when attempting to read my ebooks at Vitalsource. IE did the same thing forcing me onto FF which I'm using now without issue.

I am surprised you are even able to run Wine if you thought Edge was contained in a 16KB exe.

I just wanted to correct my previous statement about FF. Last night I was able to play amazon video natively at 3440x1440 through the browser without any additional add-ons.

I hate the lack of a menu system in edge and the bookmarks are retarded as you cannot rearrange them or manipulate them in any way from within the browser. I want to drag some to the top menu but it won't let me, I want to rename or delete and it won't let me. When it imports it screws the order up and duplicates rather than incorporates skewing my bookmarks to a new level of disorder. Next time you get a prompt to give feedback on edge you should tell MS how you feel. I was very explicit about what I disliked when I did it and if everyone would provide input to them they'll get the idea and correct it. It definitely has potential but needs a pile of work before it really becomes usable.

I just tried to watch news videos on CNN and edge threw me to another tab each time I tried to go to full screen. I then tried FF 48.0.2 on the same video and had absolutely zero issues between moving from regular to full screen and back again. Edge's bizarre behavior continues to annoy me especially after the big update.

I only have access to an insider preview build at work, so might not be the same as the AU version.

I can drag, rename, delete and sort favorites in Edge on my system from the favorites menu.

*Edit: Confirmed it works the same on the AU, maybe revisit it.
