Browsers are software so use the one you feel best suits your needs. Some people want you to believe that their personal preference should be everyone's personal preference which is not the case. IMHO edge sucks but I won't condemn you if you love it. I'm using it right now to browse this forum but I'll swap over to IE, FF or chrome depending on what I'm doing. Chrome is my go to browser for watching movies on amazon and Netflix in 1440p because the others just suck at it.

FF is less secure, and no amount of extensions will fix a fundamentally flawed browser in that regard.

That may be true, but ... I've been using it successfully for years. Haven't had any security issues to note, really. I did once get totally 0wn3d by malware by using IE under XP one time though. So for me, FF >>>>> IE.

You should try using different browsers with your video services and see which one works best for you. I've been trying edge tonight on amazon and amazingly enough it's streaming 1440p fine. IE falls flat on its face, FF wants to use Silverlight and chrome does it natively.

So which one is the best balance between speed and security?

Right now, I'd say either Chrome or Edge with the anniversary update. You can't go wrong with either really.. From what I've seen though, Edge is now faster than Chrome after the update. Edge has the best hardware acceleration of any browser by far; and this extends to streaming as well.

Although firefox is not the fastest, i used edge and i just do not like the forced configuration it has.
I will stay with firefox until something better comes out. (Still hoping for the original opera team to come together again).

I think Edge with the anniversary update has the best decoding profile now. It's the only browser that supports VP9 hardware decoding for instance..

It's also available in the Chrome dev branch so expect that to trickle down fairly soon.

One thing that surprised me about Edge was that it lacks the feature of clearing the history automatically when the browser is closed. If I had to guess, IE2 probably had that feature?

I've also successfully used IE6 with XP back in the day with no issues.

I mean, at the end of the day, it's going to come down to preference. Threads like this are largely garbage. I've switched to Edge, and it suits me fine.

Netflix works in stereo for me on all browsers - only Windows 10 app has 5.1 sound.

Thanks for the heads up!

This option is in there with the Anniversary update. You can find it in Settings > Clear browsing data..

Tried to use edge as well, lasted 2 days after that I gave up. Interface is just annoying to use.

Hell no, chrome is still the best browser. Fire fox comes in 2nd.

Main reason: endless list of features from web apps and extensions.

Internet explorer and its edge offspring sucks and like always, most people only use it because its the default browser of windows, the OS 99% of the consumers use. In short, its not the best but has the most market share because Microsoft is abusing windows' market dominance to ship these shitty browsers to consumers.

I actually prefer Vivaldi over Chrome, now that you can use extensions on Vivaldi it's getting better and better, like the old Opera but based on Chromium.

just decided to try edge and the sound from a toyota add went off with ABP and no acceptable adds allowed, strike one. Seems i can't drag a page to the relevant favorites folder on the favorites bar, strike two. Quad spacing in the favorites bar folder drop down means i need to scroll lists if i have more than 10 or so bookmars saved, strike three, your out. that's the first 15 minutes of use. EFF'em all, just eff'em, eff'em, effem,'eff'em. :)

What page had an ad that got through the filter?

Extensions don't work in private mode, and after I disabled acceptable ads (taboola garbage not being acceptable to me), I haven't had any issues with ads. I have nothing for the other two points, but at least you gave the browser a go instead of blindly dismissing it.

I think the intro page can be excluded immediately. I'll be interested to try the other two pages out when I get home.

In any case, it's very likely that when some of the better ad-blocking/privacy extensions get released, that rogue ads will be even less of an issue. I've heard uBlock origins is being worked on.
