I never understood the shit talking about those that move home after college either. In many cases it just makes fucking sense re: debt/money situation. Maybe a lot of these people have had a shitty family life or something. That, or they think it makes them look better because they left home at an earlier age and didn't come back. Douchebags ftl.

Cool project OP; your son gets to learn new skills and gets a place to stay that allows him to save money. I'm sure he's grateful.

lol, most of us probably have better relationships with our parents than you with an attitude like that.

It's ALWAYS harder on your own, but when your balls finally drop you realize as a MAN you want privacy and freedom and no fucking matter how cool or 'down' your mom and dad are you aren't going to be fucking too many chicks with parents (or usually even roommates) around.

It becomes time to man up and give up that water cooling setup and nice new car sometimes.

A kid should have all his adult skills by the time he becomes an adult.

I had all my bills taken care of at home. It was a great place and everyone loves my parents...still it was time for me to move on. Once I did struggle I quickly revamped that and had my own nice home by my early 20's. I didn't run back home with every life's upset like so many do.

It's fucking pathetic so many people in their 40's have lived at home for over half their adult lives and still don't have shit saved for any kind of purchase. It's a buyer's market out there and all they have is a late model higher end car to show for it usually.

I don't think he was directing it toward my son. And, I'm sure that in some cases, it's true. However, I pointed out somewhere earlier in the thread that depending on which hospital his girlfriend decides to begin her career in, it's likely that she'll end up staying with him. And, the plan, (and plans are quite fluid at times) is that by the time he's 23, he'll have a sizable down payment for his own house. Hmmm... nearly debt free and home owner at 23? Sounds pretty doable. Same thing I did 20 years ago.

oh i'm sure he wasn't but he is not smart enough to think about what he is saying before he hit return.

he is going off on kids staying home and having fun insulting those that say its ok to stay home and not seeing who the OP was. i just found it funny. oh and the fact he still don't get it is better.

That's a really bad idea. I hope you are going to charge rent or something to keep this a bit more focused. Giving a bf/gf type deal a free love nest when they should be exploring their options in life is a set sail for fail moment.

We get it, you must be on a bit more meds than usual tonight; you want Dr. Pizza to moderate me...I realized who I was replying to and never claimed anything but generalities that I know of.

Fuck, I have one friend that's 38 now that has a $10k/month condo in NYC that his parents have been paying since he was 20 plus all utilities and give him an allowance.

A practical grown child.

I can say with a sense of pride I moved out of my parents at 20 years old with not a single fucking thing given to me by my parents. In my house everything down to the silverware was earned by me. Haven't had one thing given to me. Can you say the same? Didn't think so kid.

Hmm...let me guess, you did this when we had the best economy in recent history, and when college tuition and housing wasn't out of control? Nice job!

Not sure how out of touch with reality you are, but the average STATE tuition runs about 3500 a semester. So let's see, that's around 25,000 for JUST a bachelors, NOT including housing or anything else like books which routinely run 500 or more a semester. So let's assume a conservative figure of 50,000 for a 4 year degree which is getting more and more useless everyday. The only degrees that are safe from that are engineering and maybe nursing, and it will eventually catch up with them. Combine all of that with the worst economy since the depression and you get kids living with parents. Kind of funny actually since they're the ones who fucked it up in the first place.

You treat a puppy like shit from day one and that dog turns out to be a mean, untrusting, unfriendly dog.
Do that to a human and you got me.

Oh, so your parents hated you.

Yeah, you have much to be proud of because having things can always replace having the love of your parents.

You win.

Couldn't be more wrong..
18 got sent to prison (my fuck up no one to blame but me). I was released at 20 y/o and went to stay at my dads for a few months before he proceeded to call my girlfriend every name in the book and threaten her because she called him out on his hookers and blow habit and at that point we were homeless. I had a shitty job and found a run down duplex for us to live in. Continued to work at shitty job and eventually moved up and bought a new brick home at 22. That's how it started for me.

unless our physically or mentally disabled, you shouldn't be living with your parents after college.

ding ding ding.. Winner winner, chicken dinner

When my kids turn 18, its push them out the door. Off to college and if you want to go to KU and we still live in lawrence, go live in the dorms as that is what they are there for.

I think its cool to help out your children, I'll be doing the same if needed when my son is older. However, to say that tuition is crazy high and kids are in debt like never before is a choice made by them. I'm in a state school right now, actually earning money just by going to school. Everything paid for plus a housing allowance. It's called the GI Bill. So to say that they have all this debt and the economy is horrible is really a cop out because they chose to be in debt.

That said, I don't think it is a problem for a parent to take care of the kid and help them out. Choosing to be in debt like that and not join the military isn't a bad choice, you just can't say you had no other way to go to school and no choice but to be in debt with no way to buy a house.
