Don Imus fired by CBS over "racist/sexist" comments **Updated**

Actually, getting to the championship was an accomplishment for the Rutgers women's b-ball team. I am a Rutgers alum (2004). Our women's b-ball team has ALWAYS been good, but never got the recognition (in and out the school). More people went to the men's games (2nd best arena in the country according to cbs sportsline; but we sucked major!) than the women's games. It is quite sad.

The coach, Ms. Stringer, is a hall of fame coach. I believe she is #3 or #4 in the all-time women's win list. This was her first championship game in over 20 years I think. Rutgers never went to the championship. We would always lose to either Duke, UConn, Tenn, in the early rounds. So yes, getting to the championship game was AMAZING...

.. and they did it with 5 FRESHMAN starting girls!! That's right.. 5 frosh. We were ranked initially, but then dropped out of rankings for a long long time, before we got back into it.

Did the comments hurt them privately? Yes. I'm sure even tho they lost, they were happy just to play Tenn in the championship game. Trust me, a young young team getting to the final game even though EVEN the coach didn't believe they had a good enough team? Yes.

But I don't think the comments were that bad it hurt their celebrations. They could have easily moved on.

At least, now people know who/what/where Rutgers is. After our football being ranked for the first time in a while (#12), we had our women's team play in the championship game.. and now this matter. ohh.. donations up over 35%, applications up 7%.. Go RU

I'm just glad so far the women haven't sold out and appeared with Sharpton.. yet..

If you look at the MSNBC pollpoll, the overwelming majority of people think Imus DID something offensive (78% of 217334 people as of this morning) and deserved to be punished. So yes it was a big deal.

I disagree mostly. I would never be insulted by a black man rapping on the radio about how whitey holds them down, or a black comedian mocking white people, or most other things 'public'. If it were man to man and in a hateful tone, and only then, then yeah I would be a tad upset.


I don't think Imus's comments over the airwaves hut them at all until it became a big deal to begin with. Most of them (if any) probably didn't even know who Imus was until it was blown out of proportion.

But I don't think the comments were that bad it hurt their celebrations. They could have easily moved on.

But they didn't move on, in fact, they are (reluctantly IMO) using it for publicity now and most of them ... probably really don't want the publicity either. It's a self perpetuating apologist corporate drive machine that tales on a life of it's own.

According the Robin Quivers, Howards Stern's co-host, whe both Stern and Imus were on the same station Imus called her and other black female employees ******. I'm taking an educated guess that he couldn't find a Black Woman who'd want to work with him.

Leave it to Sharpton to make a major piece of sh!t like Imus seem sympathetic when in reality he is just pathetic. Nothing was more pathetic than to hear him groveling on Sharpton's show. You'd never hear Stern do that.

Yeah if he'd work for pennies on the dollar. No way he'll nmake anywhere near the Money he made until he was fired and nowhere near the money Stern makes. Of course he won't be bringing that much to the table for the Sat Radio Stations as far as subscribers or sponsors

These kinds of things are said about all people, it just happens that this particular issue involves a white radio show host so naturally a bit of backlash will ensue (defense mechanisms).

In my opinion, after reading many of the posts I think Imus was an incident waiting to happen, but needed punishment not banishment.

Tim Hardaway, I don't like gays, banned from particpating with anything related to the NBA. Everyone has been getting called on their comments. Imus just took his turn this time and he got the same fate, fired. You don't want blacks complaining about your comments, then stfu. Try that for a change rather than making excuses. Its kinda ironic to see people attack Sharpton and Jackson, but it was the white dude who after a national title game goes on the radio and refers to a group of ladies as nappy headed hoes and with his we know racist side kick refering to them as being jigaboos.
