At least, now people know who/what/where Rutgers is. After our football being ranked for the first time in a while (#12), we had our women's team play in the championship game.. and now this matter. ohh.. donations up over 35%, applications up 7%.. Go RU :) :)

Smiley's notwithstanding, did it really need to take the firing of a long time radio veteran that had 3 unfortunate words come out of his mouth, that don't even begin to be as vile as 99.99% of the top rappers song lyrics that don't seem to result in getting them out out of the music business ...

You must not be very familiar with Rutgers.

Nope, WTSU, NTSU, and UTA Arlington TX. What I do know is that it's a very highly regarded school. What's your own familiarity with the school by the way?

Unbelieveable. But its all good to say stuff like that here as long as its about black people or minorities. At first I was a little bothered by the fact he got fired, but after reading a lot of these posts, I am glad he got the ax. If the people who made a lot of these posts here represent the bulk of his audience then good riddens to him.

a man lost his job, his life.....b/c of three words that really dont mean jack squat in the big picture.

Yea to you they don't mean anything. Its easy to overlook and down play comments that don't affect you. Its easy when people's comments and actions are not an issue for you. But how about me and others? I have two daughters so I can only image how some of those parents felt. Get a clue

Until "Race Industry Inc®" made an issue of this I doubt your daughters knew who Imus was let alone heard his 4 words.

how about Classy above referring to ATOT posters as "sheet boys".

Through page after page of conversation and debate, ATOT continues to grapple with the Imus/CBS/Sharpton situation. We have seen arguments both supporting and condemning Imus and Sharpton alike. We have seen claims of constitutional injustices, and quotes from many noteable historical figures including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. himself. In an effort to contribute some truly meaningful dialogue to breath fresh life into this debate, I have taken it upon myself to scour the annals of historical litany in search of what I can most closely identify to be the defining quotation; a quote that will capture the essence of this argument from both perspectives.

So, in the midst of this heated conversation, I would like to request that all ATOTers please pause and consider the words of one obscure, but wise man, the prophet Ludacris, who a number of years ago presciently chanted this verse:

:music:You'z a ho! You'z a ho! You'z a ho, I said dat you'z a ho! :music:

To be fair though the comment he was responding to certainly sounded like it came right out of the KKK manual with the reference to lynching.

So my girlfriend told me last night that sometimes her hair gets nappy ...

I then in turn told her sometimes she's racist against hispanics ...

So in that link I provided Al Sharpton says that "rappers don't work for public regulated radio shows" after Meredith says rappers are all over the place spouting worse, but IMO Viera should have re-phrased went further and said this to him:

"So rappers work for, or have contracts with recording companies or comedian production companies and corporations that may not be regulated in your opinion -- so in essence what you're using as an excuse to justify tar-feathering Imus is that he's on a regulated show? --- so does that mean Imus would have been ok with those remarks if he was on supposedly non-regulated show? What's your definition of regulated Al? -- and does that mean since it seems the majority of black entertainers are protected by the non-regulated corporations and media (aka record companies apparently) -- that white people, or any other race of humans might want to look for a non-regulated company or talk show, or record company, or media company to work for as to not be held to a double standard and say what ever they want?"

Jeez

And my point when i pointed out his words to him was, guess what context makes a difference for anyone.

and my point is, when black people use certain words, they always claim context, when non black people say them, that person is automatically a racist despite context.

Has anyone yet commented on the fact that while the Imus debacle is all over the headlines, the situation in the ME has collapsed? ;)

After reading both of your responses the only conclusion is you are both about as racist as they come. Bested only by sharpton.

Have an ounce of self-respect why don't you and stop the victim mentality.

Nothing would happen at all...

I could probably walk down the street in my old neighborhood in Baltimore with a T-Shirt that says "Ni**a Please!" and no one would bat an eye.

I beg to differ. I posted a link to a poll in this thread indicatin that over 75% of respondant agreed that what Imus said was wrong and that he should have been punished for it. YOU are part of the minority.

Get with the program.
