Actually, getting to the championship was an accomplishment for the Rutgers women's b-ball team. I am a Rutgers alum (2004). Our women's b-ball team has ALWAYS been good, but never got the recognition (in and out the school). More people went to the men's games (2nd best arena in the country according to cbs sportsline; but we sucked major!) than the women's games. It is quite sad.

The coach, Ms. Stringer, is a hall of fame coach. I believe she is #3 or #4 in the all-time women's win list. This was her first championship game in over 20 years I think. Rutgers never went to the championship. We would always lose to either Duke, UConn, Tenn, in the early rounds. So yes, getting to the championship game was AMAZING...

.. and they did it with 5 FRESHMAN starting girls!! That's right.. 5 frosh. We were ranked initially, but then dropped out of rankings for a long long time, before we got back into it.

Did the comments hurt them privately? Yes. I'm sure even tho they lost, they were happy just to play Tenn in the championship game. Trust me, a young young team getting to the final game even though EVEN the coach didn't believe they had a good enough team? Yes.

But I don't think the comments were that bad it hurt their celebrations. They could have easily moved on.

At least, now people know who/what/where Rutgers is. After our football being ranked for the first time in a while (#12), we had our women's team play in the championship game.. and now this matter. ohh.. donations up over 35%, applications up 7%.. Go RU :) :)

I'm just glad so far the women haven't sold out and appeared with Sharpton.. yet..

They certainly like calling the women beautiful a lot but they only showcase the average looking ones...

Overall fuggly

Again too bad Imus didnt have an african american woman like howard stern on his show because all would be okay if he did.

all of these people just need to stfu and get on with their lives. if i had all this ****** going on every time someone insulted me, i wouldn't have time for anything else.

No, actualy Imus is the one who's going to stfu.

If you look at the MSNBC pollpoll, the overwelming majority of people think Imus DID something offensive (78% of 217334 people as of this morning) and deserved to be punished. So yes it was a big deal.

Get with the program.
Imus is a rich guy,I think he will be OK

if everytime the rap station in NY said something semi-bad about white people.....they'd have new DJs every week.

this is the kind of crap that numbs my emotions to feel bad for anyone for anything.

listen to the opie and anthony's thing with the top 10 rap song lyrics........they need to check themselves.......and sharpton and james seriously need to be ignored, period.

and yes imus will go on XM/Sirius and all will be well

I disagree mostly. I would never be insulted by a black man rapping on the radio about how whitey holds them down, or a black comedian mocking white people, or most other things 'public'. If it were man to man and in a hateful tone, and only then, then yeah I would be a tad upset.

I don't think Imus's comments over the airwaves hut them at all until it became a big deal to begin with. Most of them (if any) probably didn't even know who Imus was until it was blown out of proportion.

But I don't think the comments were that bad it hurt their celebrations. They could have easily moved on.

But they didn't move on, in fact, they are (reluctantly IMO) using it for publicity now and most of them ... probably really don't want the publicity either. It's a self perpetuating apologist corporate drive machine that tales on a life of it's own.

Smiley's notwithstanding, did it really need to take the firing of a long time radio veteran that had 3 unfortunate words come out of his mouth, that don't even begin to be as vile as 99.99% of the top rappers song lyrics that don't seem to result in getting them out out of the music business ...

Oh, they will, and they'll be making the talk show rounds, and eventually Oprah, and Dr. Phil, and Good Morning America etc ... etc ... with morning talk shows getting all warm and fuzzy like talking about it daily, and at the same time trying to sound sincere about thinking Imus really should have been fired for this.

According the Robin Quivers, Howards Stern's co-host, whe both Stern and Imus were on the same station Imus called her and other black female employees ******. I'm taking an educated guess that he couldn't find a Black Woman who'd want to work with him.

Leave it to Sharpton to make a major piece of sh!t like Imus seem sympathetic when in reality he is just pathetic. Nothing was more pathetic than to hear him groveling on Sharpton's show. You'd never hear Stern do that.

Yeah if he'd work for pennies on the dollar. No way he'll nmake anywhere near the Money he made until he was fired and nowhere near the money Stern makes. Of course he won't be bringing that much to the table for the Sat Radio Stations as far as subscribers or sponsors

Unbelieveable. But its all good to say stuff like that here as long as its about black people or minorities. At first I was a little bothered by the fact he got fired, but after reading a lot of these posts, I am glad he got the ax. If the people who made a lot of these posts here represent the bulk of his audience then good riddens to him.

Why because they arer sick and tired of assholes like Sharpton using the race card to promote themselves and widen the gap between race relations? Even a lot of Liberals are pissed about this and Liberals are what enables the Black Community to play the race card as much as they do.

These kinds of things are said about all people, it just happens that this particular issue involves a white radio show host so naturally a bit of backlash will ensue (defense mechanisms).

In my opinion, after reading many of the posts I think Imus was an incident waiting to happen, but needed punishment not banishment.

Correct me if I am wrong. If you people can't stand Al and Jesse so much then stop saying stuff to provoke them. And Imus said those things not anyone else. And you know what else you and many of your sheet boys here haven't mentioned is everyone who has made comments like this lately has paid the price regardless of their color. The black group on the radio who made the beloved patriot comments and about the tsunami, got fired. Michael Richardson says he got two Jew lawyers, fired. Tim Hardaway, I don't like gays, banned from particpating with anything related to the NBA. Everyone has been getting called on their comments. Imus just took his turn this time and he got the same fate, fired. You don't want blacks complaining about your comments, then stfu. Try that for a change rather than making excuses. Its kinda ironic to see people attack Sharpton and Jackson, but it was the white dude who after a national title game goes on the radio and refers to a group of ladies as nappy headed hoes and with his we know racist side kick refering to them as being jigaboos. Blow me :p

Yea to you they don't mean anything. Its easy to overlook and down play comments that don't affect you. Its easy when people's comments and actions are not an issue for you. But how about me and others? I have two daughters so I can only image how some of those parents felt. Get a clue

are you kidding me? teach your daughters that words are just words, and these words weren't all that terrible. hopefully, you can shelter your daughters from rap music cause they are going to hear a WHOLE LOT WORSE if they listen to that.

What is she a 3rd grade teacher? I've never heard coaches called Mr. Krzyzewski, Mr. Knight, Mr. Wooden.

BTW, CNN (Transcript) had Jason Whitlock on for a good bit tonight. Nice to hear a voice of reason. Amy Holmes is hot but a little too conservative for my taste, wonder if she is one of those freaks at night.
why the hell did they have tom delay on? can't we just let that douchebag go away? and wouldn't his point have been better if he'd hammered sharpton on duke lacrosse?

You must not be very familiar with Rutgers.
