Do you flash your high beams for oncoming traffic if you see a cop camping out?

Yup... but only during the day. At night I either flash my headlights off/on or flash my driving/fog lights because flashing your high beams at night makes most people think their high beams are on.

Ticket was for 80 in a 65 (no reckless charge). The cop was the NICEST cop I've ever gotten and was very pleasant. $49 processing fee + $5 for each mile over. $125.

But I'm not taking any fuggin points by paying it off, so I've already called a lawyer in Virginia and it's gonna cost me $500 in court costs (I get a 25% discount due to legal insurance so that brings it down to 375). And I'll likely get a reduced charge and driving school (another $40 or so).

I have no points on my license and it's my first ticket in 6 years so I'm fairly hopeful in my outcome with this ticket.

That being said, if I can save someone else the trouble, you're damn right I'm gonna do it

Virginia cops get an erection when they see out of state plates. I normally set my cruise at 8 over on 85 and 95. They are even worse off from the major interstates.

I had my cruise set 80 in a 70MPH zone in NC. I crossed the NC-VA state line and didn't think to adjust my cruise. Couple miles later, I see the lights in my rear view mirror

But I'm not complainin'. I got caught plain and simple

Yes, I got the ticket. No my insurance hasn't gone up yet. It just happened last week and my court date is Oct 18. so I have til then at least to get the charge either reduced or dropped.

Calmly explain to the traffic judge that you were on your way to a Staples Tuesday sale with a legit printable coupon. Trust me they'll go for it and tear up the ticket!

Problem solved

The cop asked me where I was going, and I told him that I was on my way to Baltimore for my uncle's funeral (actually true). He said "hmmm" and asked for my license and registration.

While it's no excuse for speeding, you could go to court providing proof that there was a funeral and you attended?

How is a cop supposed to approach a car who's doing 3 MPH over? Thats ridiculous. "You know how fast you were going?" Just seems like a laughable situation. Did he get a ticket?

My friend's mom got one for going 2 over and she took it to court and LOST. I didn't even think radar detectors were that accurate. Also, if any of you are going to North Seattle, specifically LFP go 2 under.

I'm sure radar guns are that accurate, but I KNOW most spedometers are not. Too many issues like tire pressure, tread wear, traction, etc.

punishment for tailgating and other offenses is very severe
they have a lot of others differences in their system as well and IMO is vastly superior to ours

You forgot to mention that there are speed limits on the autobahns, particularly in areas of heavy traffic. They are also fare more advanced roadways than our interstates, in terms of electronic monitoring and adjusting speed limits according to road conditions, congestion, etc. They do punish tailgating harshly, but most of the tailgating I see here is when someone is passing someone on the left, and someone else wants them to pass them faster. People need to just leave a couple minutes early for work so they don't have to rush and create dangerous situations.

My mom was getting her car serviced so I had to go pick her up and the only car here was my dad's new Z4(very fun drive btw). On the way back a cop was right behind me for more than 5 miles, following me, and the whole time the radar detector was going off because he was just itching to write me a ticket. Try to tell me that wasn't just some jerk interested in generating some revenue.

Lots of them. And the speed limit is 55MPH for most of the interstate in the metro area. Who the fvck goes 55-60MPH on the interstate (sorry if I offended any grannies out there).

EDIT: EVERYONE (local tv, newspapers, lawmakers, police, even our deparment of transportation) KNOWS that the average speed of traffic (from scientific studies) is near 70MPH on our interstate highways.

Guess why they keep the *official* limit at 55MPH? To line the fvckin' pigs coffers.

In NJ a good portion of our highways are now 65 mph...and for the most part I've noticed that you can comfortably go 70 without any problems...beyond that, good luck. I find regardless of your situation, go with the flow of traffic, as long as you're not the only idiot travelling over 15 mph faster than everyone, the cops aren't so bad.

I've been saved once or twice.

And I almost always flash to help out others; just last week I didn't, and I actually saw the guy get pulled over in my rear-view. He wans't going excessively fast (at a guess I'd say 10-15 miles over, on a clear day, empty roads, no other traffic), and the cops were catching people going down a 2 mile hill, which is just dirty. So I felt pretty bad for not warning him.
