Do you flash your high beams for oncoming traffic if you see a cop camping out?

Yes, I have been saved several times from the cops.
Plus FVCK the Police.....

why don't you put that on a bumper sticker mr. "I am so brave posting anonymously on the internet"

If you look at the poll, and at most of the responses, I think you'll see lots of people agree with "FVCK the [traffic] police".

But we're not stupid. Even if you get pulled over, you can still manage to weasel out of a ticket. I'm not above blunt-faced lying to an officer or judge to get out of a ticket, and I've gotten out of many.

Did you even read some of the replies? Looks like 99% of people who flash their lights are doing on the interstate, on a highway, etc.

I haven't seen one reply about someone flashing in a neighborhood, let alone reports of speed traps in one.

We have a road that goes through a neighborhood that people regularly warn on including me. The road is 4 lanes divided by a large grass median with no houses facing the road. The reasonable speed and oddly enough the average speed normal people do on this road is 35 yet the city posts it at 25. What other possible reason could there be other than collecting traffic fines?

Isn't the whole point of flashing the brights to get the other guy to slow down anyway? So there you go, he slows down, and nobody pays a fine. Everybody is happy.

there could be numerous reasons why it is posted at 25.

1. sight clearance (vertical, horizontal)
2. curve safety speed (if there is a curve on the road)
3. vertical safety speed (if the road is hilly)
4. zoning (for instance, simply because that area is zoned as residential neighborhood, they *have* to put a 25 mph speed limit there just to be consistent)

and that's just off the top of my head.

i have an example of case #4 about a block away from my apartment building. the road is very wide 2 lanes each way, with large grass median in the middle. straight and flat. but the speed limit is 30 mph, simply because the blocks are zoned as residential area.

guess you missed my reply then.

My lights are automatic and I am to lazy to bend over and manually sut them off....Also if you don't have a fuzz buster then it's your own damn fault if you get busted.

I never even knew that's what flashing your high beams meant. I thought you flashed to let ongoing traffic know that they have their headlights off or accidentally have their high beams on.

Technically that is also illegal.

Speed limits are determined by engineering studies, they don't just pick a number out of the air or decide to set the limit lower to get more tickets.

Edit: This is required by federal law.

Fsck no, I never understood why people do this.

Just drive ~5MPH speed limit and you should be ok.

I once had a friend get stopped for doing 3MPH over 35 in the city DOWN A HILL:|
Lemme guess...he was in Elon.

Not quite. The only power the feds have in setting speed limits is the threat of withholding federal highway money and they pretty much got out of that business when they abolished the ill conceived 55 MPH limit. It varies state to state but generally the starting point is the average speed motorists would tend to drive on a given road absent any speed limit. This is then modified by any number of local and political considerations. IIRC there was a guy that used to post here that actually works in that field that could really get into the ins and outs of it all.

Here is how it is supposed to be done in my state.

I was a Boy Scout and do it as my good deed of the day. Don't any of the rest of you ever give a thought to your karma?

i don't but just because i hate lights and i know it just disorients me when people flash me, so i don't bother flashing them.
