The tank guns sound like cannons (literally) on my speakers. Maybe you should get some new ones.

I have a Yahama home theater sub hooked up to my computer speakers so I don't think that's a problem. Not all of the sounds were tinny just that one in particular that I recall. I have never actually heard a modern tank fire in real life so maybe there isn't as large of a thud as I would presume.

Many of the explosions on the other hand were deep and bassy.

I played the demo at various times this weekend. I did enjoy it for the most part but I didn't have that same feeling of gaming nirvana I had when I first played BF:1942's Wake demo.
BF2 did piss me off in several ways:

1): Firing anti tank guns at armor is like shooting a BB gun at an aircraft carrier. They are entirely ineffective. Everyone knows the rear of a tank is the least protected and several dead on shots to them still did nothing. Firing at APCs in a tank takes three rounds to destroy them. Is this realistic? I figured one shot from a tank to an APC and it was toast but apparently not.

2): It requires and absurd amount of effort to kill anybody. Apparently soldiers and enemies in the BF2 world have Kevlar coated SKIN and full body armor because the hit indicator would light up repeatedly yet the bastards would not die. It seemed not to matter what weapon I chose they wouldn't go down. Sniping was a joke.

3): Tanks seem weak as usual with little splash damage. Even when they fire they sound more like pop guns!

Don't get me wrong there were several things I enjoyed like the assault boats, variety of vehicles and kits. I hope the retail version is more polished and/or a patch takes care of some of the issues that are evident.

This always happens in war games. I agree with you but the problem is, no one will ever be totally happy. If the anti tank guns worked in one shot like they should, the tank drivers would bitch and moan.

If the soliders died instantly, like they should (I agree with you), then people would complain that they die too easily. I too found myself unloading clips on people with little effect, even at close range.

I compare it to the nades in CS:S. If you've played you know you can run straight into a nade as it explodes and keep on going. If it were realistic you would have your face blown off.

I agree completely. It's hard to come up with a balance that will make every one happy. It's just damn frustrating hitting a tank in the rear twice and having no visible effect. It's not like teammates will help you beacuse we all know how that goes.

I was super excited, but unfortunately I'm extremely sad to say, I got bored.

I think it's excellent. It now requires a lot more strategy in how you play. You have sprint, but it runs out, so you need to go from cover to cover. Guys are tougher now, so you can't just spray and pray. Death cam, or lack thereof, means you can snipe away and not have to move after every kill. Great sound effects.

BF1942 was revolutionary in that it included lots of varied and easy to use vehicles. This is more of an advancement in gameplay mechanics than actual content.

What's boring is Counter-Strike:Source.

Counter-Strike is MUCH better quality wise...

I need to figure how force it to display other resolutions.

Yep, CS just exudes quality, which is why its successful. So successful that its been exploited, played to death, and lost most of its luster. But dont act like CS ever sucked, it was, and still is, one of the greatest multiplayer games ever.

BF1942 was good, but I wished the gameplay felt more solid. Id unload right in front of someone and miss them...this kind of thing would never happen in CS.

Sad to say, the same BS still goes on. I really really want to like it, but its as much of a campfest as BF:V. Get in a helicopter, get blown down by a jet, immediately. Do anything BUT snipe, and get sniped. Great potential for teamwork etc, but I can already tell it will suffer the same problems.

No one will play as a team, because no one else is playing as a team. Because no one else is playing as a team, no one will play as a team.

Really wanted to like it more than I did.

In public multiplayer. Thats whats great about team warfare, TEAMS

I found the guns powerful, the effects good, and the overall gameplay fun. I had no problem dropping people with the M-16, even at range. Same thing with the sniper, I loved hanging out at the top of the crane sniping dudes... until someone called in an artillery strike on my location.

I have no idea aboult grenade splash damage as I did not use them much. The rockets seemed powerful enough to me, maybe I missed something? One thing that bugs my is the switching between Automatic and single fire, why couldn't they let you set a key for this instead of having to select the weapon again...

Anyway, I do have a silly and stupid question... where do you guys see aircraft? I take it you have to have 32 or 64 players to get the planes added and not just the basic 16 player map? Also is there a way to set the single player to 64 players? I like to try things out with dumb bots before I go online. Thanks

start a multiplayer game on your own machine and you can mess around with the aircraft.

Shadows look like ass and graphics are worse the Far Cry. Come on that game came out a year ago... Atleast the gameplay is preaty good. Otherwise I would never even give the game a chance.

What do you expect? Its a huge map with alot of stuff going on in it. If it had the latest and greatest graphics it would A)Lower what they would do on the huge scale side and B)sell less becuase not as many people can run the huge doom3 graphics.

The graphics look great to me. True its no DOOM3 or anything but damn its good enough for war. The only think i wish the game had was maybe destructive walls or buildings. This game is basically the same as 1942. If they added the ability for tanks or missles to nock down walls that would be awesome. I mean honestly...I shoot a wall with a tank and nothing happends...when in real war my tank could just run through it.

It's OK, but just seems like a rehash of DC with nothing else to "grab you"

It is OK, nothing spectacular.

Gameplay is OK, sound is decent, map gets old real quick :D

It runs like greased lightning if you have 1GB or more of RAM. It does use it...

I played this morning and I enjoyed it more than I did over the weekend for some reason. I was knocking out tanks and APCs all over with my anti tank weapon for the MEC. My favorite time was hiding in the building near that huge crane that snipers love and firing straight down on a tank in the road. I don't know if he had been damaged already but one shot took him out.

I think I might buy the game afterall.

I couldn't agree more RadioHead84. Tanks getting held up by trees always made me wince too. When you are maneuvering in the pitch of battle and get caught in a freaking tree it can be the difference between life and death. Tanks should be able to mow down small trees with ease. I really wish buildings were mostly destructible too as you said. The rubble would give plenty of hiding places still to fight from.

Are there any games out with real-time deformable terrain?

They FVCKED FLYING look at my name and tell me how pissed I am! Now my cat can do a barrel roll in a chopper on his first try...Acceleration in Jets is a joke. Aiming a chopper to the ground to hit ground targets..LIKE a chopper should do, makes you fly into the ground.if your not careful...If the air mechanics get fixed in a mod like DC (Most likely in BF2 mod called Desert CONFLICT) then this will be my fav game of all time..Really like the ground gameplay..air is just a joke unless your an idiot and liked BF:V lol but i know you are all smarter than that.

Only ones I can think of are RTS not FPS. Battlefield would be even that much greater if the terrain was destructible.

I never played DC and was a horrid pilot in BF:V so I never tried but a few times. Some guys seem to have gotten the hang of flying because I was wasted several times by choppers.

I know what you are saying, though that's it not what you are used to.

I really like the squads, before I got into a good squad it was ok but last night I got into a good 6 man squad with a good squad leader. We had a medic, 2 assaults, 2 supports, and I was an engineer. It was awesome cruising in the boat up the river shooting people with the shotgun.

At one point we got pinned down by a tank, and I snuck around the tank and plainted a coupel claymores. I quickly ran, the tank went KABOOM! My squad was celebrating big time. After last night I think the game will be freakin awesome!

But imagine the CPU time needed to implement it in a game like BF2...
