I really wish buildings were mostly destructible too as you said. The rubble would give plenty of hiding places still to fight from.

Are there any games out with real-time deformable terrain?

the only games that come to mind were the Red Faction series. They were FPS and had almost completely deformable terrain. I remember when I realized this... there was a tank and a bunch of dudes going across a stone bridge. I decided to take a shot at the tank with a rocket launcher and missed hitting in front of it. To my suprise the whole floor went out in front of the tank. Naturally I fired behind it and watched the tank plus the entire squad drop down into the abyss.

After that I found it awesome to use the weapons cheat and drill yourself a new passageway in the first mine levels. Such a cool feature on a otherwise unremarkable game

im happy, ive never played BF1942 but i had played the desert combat version....and this is very good, was blasting the sh!t out some poor guys on the MEC team, i was the gunner in that attack helicopter thing and i was mowing em down like i was mowing the lawn....great fun. we returned to the ship for more bombs and continued mowing like it was going out of fashion!. flying 2ft off the surface of the sea is good, and had some very close encounters in the air!

At one point we got pinned down by a tank, and I snuck around the tank and plainted a coupel claymores. I quickly ran, the tank went KABOOM! My squad was celebrating big time. After last night I think the game will be freakin awesome!

There are boats on the Oman level?

Yes, the second level of the carrier has assault boats and one is spawned at the extreme left flag on land closest to the carrier.

Edit: They are really fun to pilot and have formidable firepower if you need to use it. ;)

On the 32 player map there is, they come out of the bottom rear of the USMC carrier

Link

Increasing Singleplayer Bots

To increase the number of bots used in singleplayer mode, go to your \Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2 Demo\mods\bf2\AI directory and open the file aidefault.ai with Notepad or Wordpad. Read the instructions in the file, and remove the words 'rem' from in front of the relevant lines. To alter the number of actual bots, edit the number at the end of the aiSettings.setMaxNBots 32 line (e.g. aiSettings.setMaxNBots 64 for 64 bots).

yes a good squad/server/commander combo in this can be the best game ever.
Also can severly backfire with alot of single players running around. This game is AWESOME with unselfish teamwork. I actually called for medics before i was dead and sqad member would drop what hes doing and heal me. A good commander also would drop supplies when I was SL when I called for it.
Ive also been on servers where its every man for himself and it was still fun but too much chaos.

Some nice clan servers will surface and I have a hunch I'll be playing on like 2-3 all the time max with admin rights eventually. Those are my favorites

yeah..that was one of t he main selling points of the RF series that anything could be destroyed. Err i just they made it that way. I realize it would take A LOT of work and PC power..with all of that physics going on and decals flying everywhere but still that would have been awesome.

Yeah i had a good squad the other day and it was pretty fun. We were assaulting the flags on the coast from the MEC side. I was in the helli with a good gunner intoe while a medic, engineer, and a special ops was on the ground. We took a flag while i gave air cover and cleared the way for them to take out the artillery guns. Very fun indeed.

I was also the commander the other day..and while people said i did a good job i dont know if its that great. I can see the commander being A LOT of fun and a great way of making the battle flow but as it stands its not. People just dont listen to your commands. And as of yet i havent figured out a way to give commands to people that arnt in squads. The map is also ver confusing..they need to color code the squads better along with numbering each person so you can see EXACTLy what is going on.

haha laying down artilery and killing like 6 people is awesome tho.

We should all join a server and make a ATOT squad

The more I've been playing the more I've enjoyed it. Now that EA has gotten their panties in a bunch and punished the servers who bypass the 12 minute limit and unlocked the special weapons it won't be as fun since 12 minutes really isn't enough time to have a full pitched battle.

There are still some things that anger me but that's with the whole series.

Just played for the first time last night, with the bots...

I have to say the IQ in the game is REALLY AMERICAN!!!

I got run over twice by OWN TANK, I was shot 4 times by OWN TROOPS and died once in OWN ARTILLERY FIRE!!! Not once was I killed by enemy... and this all in 10 minutes :Q :mad;

Well, once I try it online, I hope I will survive better :p

It's OK, but they should have learned a lot more from the highly successfull Desert Combat mod. Flying the helo is nearly impossible at best (I'm an apache guru on DC... I shoot down f'n fighters down with that thing occassionally), the guns aren't nearly as effective as they should be, they removed the F+key reporting so it's a pain in the arse now to convey messages (and vastly more time consuming). The improved graphics are nice, as well as the sprinting feature, I prefered that you can run all the time, but it does add a nice new level of realism.

The tank guns sound like cannons (literally) on my speakers. Maybe you should get some new ones.

I have a Yahama home theater sub hooked up to my computer speakers so I don't think that's a problem. Not all of the sounds were tinny just that one in particular that I recall. I have never actually heard a modern tank fire in real life so maybe there isn't as large of a thud as I would presume.

Many of the explosions on the other hand were deep and bassy.

I agree and if you read the interviews from the BF2 team they used sounds sampled from all the real vehicles and weps..
so that should be pretty close how it sounds in real life...

sounds freaking great on my HT system too...

roomate came in and wanted to know if we had been invaded =P

I have no idea aboult grenade splash damage as I did not use them much. The rockets seemed powerful enough to me, maybe I missed something? One thing that bugs my is the switching between Automatic and single fire, why couldn't they let you set a key for this instead of having to select the weapon again...

Anyway, I do have a silly and stupid question... where do you guys see aircraft? I take it you have to have 32 or 64 players to get the planes added and not just the basic 16 player map? Also is there a way to set the single player to 64 players? I like to try things out with dumb bots before I go online. Thanks

join any online game....
the map is 40% larger and has a carrier and an airbase...

this is NOT a single player game at all.. it was designed from the ground up as a online only game..

half the servers out there have no time limit what are you talking about...
most are set to victory condition only..

It's pretty easy. If you need a guide to use a spoon, I could see needing a guide to fly the BF:2 aircraft...maybe.

naw its not easy for the newbs.. they dont realize they have to use a joystick and the keyboard at same time for max control over helos/planes...

i use a joystick with a throttle that i keep set just barely above minimum stall speed then use WSAD for throttle and rudder control while using the joystick to actually fly...

had to learn that method to even take off in DC and it works well now too..

DC Choppers did things real helocopters cannot do..
they do not fly that way at all..
even the DC team was not happy with them...
the only reason people like them is becasue it kept only a select few good pilots flyign them..
the DC chopper model was horrible.. and I was good with it..
but now Im a god with the more realistic BF:V/BF2 chopper model..
it flys alot closer to the real thing...

blades and hover effect and torque are all modeled now..
in DC they had to use the flight model for a plane and give it a verticle axis..
it just didnt work as well as it could have...

if you doubt the realism of the flight models.. ask some military or civilian chopper pilots if thier birds can do what they do in DC...

I've had a few really great games like when a US chopper was hovering low over the river shooting around the construction area flag. I was on a boat in the river and I switched to the gunner position to mow him down and he didn't know where the fire was coming from. I think my favorite thing is sneaking around the rear and taking out the enemy.

I'm disappointed with the sniper rifle... seems a little weak.

I'm a pretty good medic and tank driver. One key is to keep the tank moving and enemy tanks have a hard time hitting you.

Biggest improvement --> Squads <-- ...which are awesome and it's interesting to see how powerful different combinations are.

I've also done some dumb things like jumping out of a tank on a hill, only to get killed by my own tank rolling downhill!

Still need to try the various other infantry units, VOIP, flying, and being a commander.
