is there a guide on how to fly the plane/copter?
It's pretty easy. If you need a guide to use a spoon, I could see needing a guide to fly the BF:2 aircraft...maybe.
naw its not easy for the newbs.. they dont realize they have to use a joystick and the keyboard at same time for max control over helos/planes...
i use a joystick with a throttle that i keep set just barely above minimum stall speed then use WSAD for throttle and rudder control while using the joystick to actually fly...
had to learn that method to even take off in DC and it works well now too..
That's a newb setup you've got there. For proper control you need a joystick with rudder and of course throttle. Designate buttons for primary/secondary fire, map, map zoom, use the hat at the top for inside and rear view and have two buttons set for eject/parachute.
I also have a button set to bring up the scores.
Having buttons means you're at full lock/power or nothing which makes it crap for precision aiming. Now that we have lamo guided rockets it's not quite as important in the aircraft, but if you're using the canon and need to aim a foot to the left, the buttons would be no good.
Edit: also it's virtually impossible to hover in a controlled manner in a heli using the buttons, not unless you're up for franticly tapping the buttons to try and get some kind of balanced power.
It took me a couple of weeks of dedicated practice to be able to fly the helicopters well. I think the heli's in BF2 don't recover as well as DC and you can't throw them about nearly so much. The planes are also much easier. I'm not especially happy about this as I like a decent fight against someone who's been practicing for months and can preform some nifty tricks.
These days I can hover a regular jet in DC, back off the power and make it fly backwards to about 20 feet off the ground and recover.
Not useful, but looks cool and annoys the opposition when you do it over their home base.
