Well, if anyone would like to give me some of those souls, I'd appreciate it.

I just started over and being like level 20 is lame =(

Finally got my PS3 online long enough for some co-op. Layed down an soul sign in front of the 4-1 boss and we raped that guy. Got my body back without taking any damage :p

If you have the Adjucator's shield, look at the front of it to see what the 4-1 boss USED to look be.

Ha, that's pretty cool.

I've been going along alright lately. I beat 1-2 with the help of a random guy at the boss, then I fully beat 4-1 by myself. Seems like I'm finally strong enough to actually get through some of the game :awe:

World 4 is one of the harder worlds too. 1-1,1-2, and all of 2 are cake by comparison.

I keep dying in world 2 because I do stupid shit. I don't know why I can't get a grasp on world 2 but it always gets me. I've barely even looked at 3, mainly because the first thing I ran into in world 3 stunned me and nearly killed me from full health in one attack. I got scared and ran away :x

Glad to see more people playing this.

I did world 3-1 right after 1-1 and yeah the tentacle guys are scary and hard at first but when you figure out to backstab them, the level is pretty easy.

I figure I'll just use Soul Arrow from afar. Not sure how the entire level is layed out but hopefully I'll be able to kill them before they can get to me.

I only use soul arrow as I started with it as Royalty. It's come in handy very much throughout the game. Helped me beat 4-1 boss from the top level fairly easily.

I thought about doing that, but I just ran down the stairs and circled him. That boss is a huge joke compared to how difficult the rest of monsters there are. I suspect he hits hard, but didn't hit me a single time.

I forgot to spend my souls and I died with around 50,000 last night. =( Being only level thirty something that is a good amount of upgrades. I died on my way back to them as well from some garbage. =(

4-2 isn't as fun as 4-1... Especially when I ran out of warriors.

Guys, I'm really interested in getting this game. A few questions:

What is the closest game this is similar to? I haven't heard any comparisons.

Is there anything wrong with buying this game used? It's not like 'activated' for the original PS3 or anything, is it?

How many hours have you spent on the game?

It it seamless to play single player and then just sync up with a buddy for a while, then go back to single player?

Thanks

I can't think of a damn thing it's similar to. It's kind of similar to Ninja Gaiden in that it's about timing and incredible frustation when you screw up, but it's not nearly as fast as that.

I bought it used and there's no incentive not to.

I'm new, so I think I only have about 10 hours into it.

It's seamlessish, but there are limitations. You can't just start playing with a buddy, you have to ask for help by using summoning stones that can only be used in specified locations (like right before a boss), and your friend has to be the one that uses the stone you dropped. You also have to be similar level, so if one of you plays more than the other and levels up quicker you won't be able to join up after a while.

I bought my copy used also, no problems doing that.

I've spent several hours with the game, at least 60+ so far and if I didn't have to share the PS3 with other people I would probably have spent significantly more.

Does anyone know what world tendency it has to be for you to get Makoto? I have tried pure black, but I killed the NPC that was there.

There is only one way to get the Magic Sword "Makoto" per play through.

  1. You must have Pure White world tendency and then go to 4-2. After going through the hallway and killing the first reaper, drop down and head to the right (beside of the staircase, not on top of it) of where the reaper once was. Here you will find Patches who will "help" you to find some treasure. Once the scene is over and you are in the room, you will see a large spire in the middle of the room. If you are Pure White, the body with the sword will be laying next to the spire.

Yeah, don't use terms like "b4"... you're not texting, spell it out like an educated individual.

But seriously, it's really damned hard. Have patience and learn how to play the game properly and not just barrel through thinking you'll be okay. I suggest starting out as a royalty class or something that has a ranged weapon or spell to start. It makes getting into the game less frustrating. Check out the demon's souls wiki for all the info you'll need.

Thanks for the wiki source. I'll have to get pure white and go back for it then.

AceStallion, one thing you have to learn in this game is how to dodge. The mechanics of dodging and parry / attack will the best things you can learn. Also, don't worry about getting killed. Another thing, I would suggest using the hero / solider souls in the nexus RIGHT before you spend them. Otherwise you might die and lose them. Bows are really good for playthroughs and farming souls. Don't attack NPCs because they will not forgive you until the next new game+. Kiting enemies that are stronger than you is another very good skill. The thief's ring shouldn't leave you equipped slot on the first go around.

The final piece of advice I have is tie / tape / glue your controller to your hand. Otherwise it could end up in your TV.

I encountered my first invader today. Was pretty tough, but I ended up beating him. I also was able to get through 3-1, which was quite long and kind of a pain... but the boss was pretty easy. I started out 3-1 playing with somebody I summoned, but he fell off a cliff or something and died when I wasn't looking.

So as an invader, what kind of penalty did the guy suffer from losing? I seemed to get some souls from him, so maybe he just loses those but that doesn't seem like a huge loss.

he loses souls and items that he used are of course gone. That's it. If he dies to environmental effects or pretty much in any other way than you killing him, he loses 1 soul level.

And if he won he just gets his body back? Seems like a pretty easy way to get your body back.

I just picked up a copy myself. It is a fun game. It's nice to have a challenging game for a change.

After beating the boss in 1-1, I kept my body form for a whole 5 minutes until I got to the freaking fire-breathing dragon in 1-2 going across the battlements. Next time I'll pay better attention to the messages/bloodstains on the ground.
