I bought this based on everybody's recommendation, and honestly, I have absolutely zero idea what the fuck is going on in this game. I don't know where I'm going and I don't know what I'm doing, and NOTHING is explained in game, anywhere. I played for 3 hours and feel like I made no progress at all. Of course since this damn game is Nintendo Hard, I died atleast eleventy billion times.

I think I'm done with Demon's Souls for now.

If you are really dying a lot, you obviously aren't taking the time to actually play the game correctly. If you just rush in swinging every time, you are going to die all the time and make no progress.

I had the exact same experience except I played for about an hour and died once. I turned it off. I just couldn't get into to it and it was boring. I might revisit it later since people seem to love it so much but I regret spending $20 for the game. I should've bought Fallout 3.

If you are confused just read the wiki. Honestly, the wiki makes the game extremely easy.

Why should a game need some community-written website to be understood? IMO, that's bad game design, "Just throw it together, don't explain anything, and wait for our community to write the documentation." Seems lazy to me.

Naustica, I paid $30 for it, but I paid in BBuy gift cards, so I didn't really "pay" for it. I do regret getting it, though, and should've gotten Uncharted, I'm having much more fun in that game, even though I die all the time while trying to platform.

The game doesn't need a wiki at all. It's pretty simple and straightforward. Did you need a wiki to figure out super mario bros?

It doesn't require a guide at all. Just like most games, a guide is helpful for those who are having difficult. Nothing in the game is hard to figure out. The guide is mostly useful for item locations, which you are supposed to find yourself but can "cheat" if you are lazy.

No need to throw a fit 😛 Don't get mad at the game because you are either too unskilled or impatient to do well.

The game isn't for everyone. IMO, it blows everything else out of the water, including Fallout 3, but different strokes for different folks.

lmao @ reply 😀

i just started this game on the weekend.... right now i am in the nexus with about 1100 souls. i died back in 1-1 or something... i can't really recall.

i have no idea what is going on.

i ended up playing medal of honor and might try medal of honor: frontline later. i also finished god of war 3 on the weekend.

i will definitely give this some more playtime later on. possibly. i've only put maybe 2 hours into it and i know for a truly deep game that that's not nearly enough.

Its depth is an illusion. It's just that every time you die or return to a world, it resets. Only certain things permanently change. There is also sometimes side areas that aren't part of the main focus of the level, but there is no way to distinguish these except that you might find yourself enemies you aren't ready for yet.

I'll admit I'm a bit impatient, but I really only have a few hours a day to spare doing stuff, and I want my gaming time to be enjoyable, not an exercise in frustration, which is what Demon's Souls is.

The game gives no direction or hints, it basically just throws out out there and says "Get to it" without actually telling you what "it" is, or how to "Get to" it.

You enter an archstone, then kill everything. It's about as simple as you can get.

If you want to figure out world tendency specific items / npcs and where to find certain items to upgrade on your own, go right ahead. If nobody ever had shown / told you about the warp tunnels would you have found them in Super Mario Bros? Didn't think so...

All you do is

1. kill bad guys
2. get better gear and level up
3. kill stronger bad guys

And so the cycle continues. The goal is just to beat the game and kill all of the bad guys...

The game even had a tutorial >.>

Only a few hours a day? Demon's Souls is great for that, since you can quit at any time at it saves your state RIGHT THEN AND THERE unlike most console games. I use "quit" like I would "pause" if there was one.

Nobody ever told me about them. There's not much hiding in Demon's Souls.

The gameplay is pretty straight forward, but there's a lot of items and upgrade paths pretty much everyone would miss the first time without the wiki. Especially since some of the materials needed are in such short supply. Comparing it to SMB is just silly.

The worlds are referenced the same, you go through defeating enemies and avoiding traps the same, there's bosses at the end just the same... I mean really, it's the same game different generation. Maybe more comparable to Sonic?

Say what? SMB and Demon's Souls are the same game? You're on crack. Numbering your levels the same doesn't make the games the same. Everything else you've been saying are gross simplifications. "Defeating enemies and bosses" could apply to hordes of drastically different games. Have you even played DS? Are your statements mean to be a running joke? What gives here? Nothing you are saying makes any sense.

lol, i am glad i joined this thread, as it has given me a few chuckles and some great insight on the game. 🙂

i still haven't played it again since the first time... could be on the back burner for a while... playing Medal of Honor multiplayer a lot now.

buyers beware, this game is for GAMERS! not casual video game players.

This game isn't hard once you learn to not expect it to hold you hand. Sure, there are some moments where you're frustrated because something one hit you, but learn to dodge better and you have no problems. Rushing into anything will only cause you to die extremely fast.

The game seems simple, but there is a lot of depth to it if you look.

You are making it out to sound a lot more complex than it is. It is a modernized platformer, with little different from old school games. That isn't a bad thing.

You have to admit the princess is never in another castle in Demon's Souls. But sure, it is a modernization of a platformer. There is a lot more to it than simple hack and slash your way through the worlds and defeat the boss, just as there was more than one way in Super Mario Bros. to get to the end (warp tunnels).

Demon's soul isn't for you if you expect your hand to be held through it, to me it was one of the most rewarding yet frustrating gaming experiences i've ever had.

There's almost no actual platforming in Demon's Souls. It has literally no relation to a platformer like SMB beyond how the levels are numbered.
