(Dead) Visioneer One Touch 8100 Scanner FREE after $80 rebate & $20 coupon at Staples.com

Rally -- I understand your sarcasm, but do you really think Staples doesn't know what they are doing? They make millions a day.

They obviously have thousands of scanners. Why would they practically give them away without some type of profit/marketing/etc? They chose the $99 price. They chose the $70,$80 rebate. They know they have coupons/price matches.... they wouldn't come up with a deal like this to waste money.

But I'm just a rep, I don't know anything for sure, lol.

It has been three weeks since the first $70 MIR for the Visioneer 8100 was first offered at Staples. If Staples/Parago is going to reject rebates from 8100 purchases made with a coupon, those people who purchased early should be able to check the status of their rebate by now at the staples.com rebate center and report any problems. If your rebate shows as processing then it is as goood as approved as they always validate your rebate when it is received and updated in their system.

if so, whats another $20 off on a couple hundred orders, your arguement just proves my point, that's all.

If they are going to sell thousands of them for $20, why not sell a couple for $0 to get customers or whatever they are doing. It is not cost-effective to deny 100 rebates and field 100 calls, and pay 50 reps to take those calls.

<< sounds like the guy works in marketing or purchasing, i'm amazed they tell their phone reps their margins on scanners they sell.. >>

The guy doesn't work at Staples. He doesn't even know the rebate company name. Also, there's no Staples call center in Alabama.

StaplesChatRep - it is call a loss-leader item. Rest assured that Staples is paying more than $20-$30 fr this item.

BTW - Have you checked your company news lately? Staples is now poised to report a loss for this fiscal quarter (they are loosing millions). This after reporting profits for the past three quarters. Staples has announced the closing of an initial 125 stores and more will likely follow. Staples also has a new President/CEO after the founder retired earlier this month. Such management changes always are followed by corporate policy changes.

Lol. He doesn't think I work at Staples.

Parago/Paragon, whichever. We just closed a call center in Tulsa, OK. We have call centers in Halifax and Regina in Canada, and a call center in Florence, KY. Why would I dispose my call center location? I don't want Staples to see me on here. I have been working in the call center for almost 2 years and have been doing sales/customer support/etc the whole time. Ron Sargent is now the CEO, after Tom Stemberg. I don't give a damn if you don't think I work there... why would I lie about something like that? Is everyone that skeptical/pessimistic on this board?

Number one, this is clearly a manufacturer rebate (not a staples rebate) by the language used.
Number two, in retailing the manufacturer generally sets the price, and the rebates. More than likely this promotion was an attempt by visioneer to blow out inventory on the scanners which did not have the XP drivers in the boxes. Often times when a rebate is offered the store would pay more for the item because manufacturer will be rebating a portion to the customer. Remember staples profit will be the $99.99 - their cost.

Okay, you passed the test. Can't blame people for being skeptical in open forums like these. 😀

You guys are giving me some good lessons in marketing here 😉

I received my scanner and just sent the paperwork/UPS to Staples so I figured it wasn't manufacturer.

Thats funny because I sent my rebate to Parago. 😉

Rebate applies to a Visioneer One Touch 8100 Scanner Model #81001D-WC (SKU 437849) purchased at Staples stores, Staples.com or Staples Direct only. Purchase must be made between February 14, 2002 and February 18, 2002. All requests MUST be postmarked by March 18, 2002. Offer not valid with any other rebates, offers or promotions. Offer valid in US only. Good for actual purchases by end users; excludes resellers and distributors of products and their families. Please allow 8 weeks after claim is received by fulfillment company to receive your rebate. All rebates will be made in US dollars. Manufacturer is not responsible for lost or misdirected mail and illegible entries. Staples logo and product names are trademarks of Staples and their respective companies. One rebate per name/family/address. For questions about your rebate call 1-877-266-6483. Fraudulent submission of multiple requests could result in federal prosecution under the U.S. Mail Fraud Statutes (18 USC, Section 1341 & 1342). Keep a copy of your claim for future reference.

Clearly indicates manufacturer is sponsor of rebate and refers to Staples and their respective companies not Staples and our respective companies

<< this is clearly a manufacturer rebate (not a staples rebate) by the language used >>

I guess it is a manufacturer's rebate, since it is going to a post office box very close to what Visioneer is using for the rebates on its website. Also, as is noted above, the language on the rebate form states "Manufacturer is not responsible for lost or misdirected mail and illegible entries." That could be a good sign for the non-paranoid people. Why would Visioneer care whether people used coupons at Staples? It shouldn't affect anything from Visioneer's perspective.

I printed out the envelope at the last step of the Staples rebate process. I thought it was a Staples address?

Correct me if I'm wrong, as people seem to get their pants wet when they notice an error in someone recollection of something. You guys really get off on this stuff, lol.

If you really want to you can read about parago here.

And you can look up the same rebate at rebateshq parago's customer portal here.

Just click on get your rebate, select visioneer as the manufacturer and then look for the proper one.

And at staples rebate site you will see a powered by parago logo up in the corner.

EDIT: I forget to mention the McAllen, TX address is for parago not staples.

Just a thought guys--I bought 2 of these scanners on Saturday from the B&M pricematched to the Andara Tech site. I live near Andara so there was no added shipping. The staples employees didn't hassle me at all. I bought 3 more today again pricematched to the Andara site. At one of the staples they told me that I could get the pricematch OR the rebate but I could not do both. So I called the fulfillment company--their response--"We don't care what you paid for the scanner as long as it is purchased during the time period specified and you send in the UPC code and receipt..." The thing I think is interesting here is that the B&M rebates were only good for 17-18 Feb, however, the online rebate was good from the 14-18 Feb. There was a 3 day window 14-16 Feb. where no one was concerned, informed, or worried about the pm and the online rebate--they did the pm without so much as a hitch. In the future I'm going to watch the online rebate dates much more closely. Since the B&M didn't technically have a rebate until the 17 of Feb--they COULDN'T refuse the pm. They sure screamed about it today. So I told them to just give me the pm and I would bag the rebate (yeah right!! he muttered under his breath while walking out of the store). I'm sending the rebate in anyway, in light of what the fulfillment rep said. ;>)

Long story short--there may be other rebates in the future that have a 2-3 day window where the B&M CAN'T refuse to pm and you still qualify for the rebate with the form printed online. Just my $0.02

Happy Deal Hunting

quick question... what brand of power supply came w/ the scanner?

i'm being paranoid 'coz i got an open box. i wanna know before i plug it in.
thnx.

i am the /🙂\ cute staples rep

<< Interesting article here. >>

<< Also, through the Parago system, consumers generally receive their rebates within three weeks vs. 10 to 13 weeks, which is more typical of rebates. >>

Yeah, right! I still keep getting my rebates in 8-10 weeks.

I chatted with one of Staples representives last night, and they told me I can't use rebate and coupon (20$ off $200) at the same time. In that case I have to either retrieve the coupon or cancel the order.

Good luck to you all.

I spoke with a CSR last night also, and he told me that if I bought Peanut M & M's with the scanner, they would honor the rebate. Only Peanut, not the plain ones. That would be cause for refusal.

Also they made me promise not to ever brush my teeth with Trident, or they would take their money back from me.

Just thought I'd throw some more BS on top of the already large pile of bunk. 🙂

'cmon guys, $20 for this $100 scanner is good enough to be a hot deal considering how much you've saved from Staples from your previous purchases.

anyway, starting next Sunday, BB will have this for $120 w/ $80 rebate + $30 GC

not!

i am the /:|\ staples guy. i will hide all your hot deals.
