I just talked to a CSR about my shipping (I used my own FedEx and entered
"Fedex Ground" for the method, which got truncated to Fedex...wanted to
make sure they were going to use Fedex Ground...which they were as it turns
out).

Anyway, I asked about the rebates. She told me they just had a meeting
with their supervisor, who told them that he'd been told:

1) All rebates are valid if your purchase is valid and you honor the terms
of the rebates. I said: "Do you know there are supposedly FIVE rebates
that apply to this system?" She answered: "Yes, all FIVE rebates."
(I ignored the $50 service rebate).
2) The 80gb hard drive does NOT disqualify your hard drive rebate.
3) One qualifying purchase per person for the student program. No limit on
qualifying purchases for EPP. Qualifying purchase means qualifying for
rebate. They will ship out as many as you ordered, but the limit for
the student program applies to rebates.

FWIW,

Kwad

Googlegear.com (good company) has the following prices on RIMMs

RDRAM PC1066 (Samsung)

128MB: $65
256MB: $103

Spendy... I might stick with the 256MB for a little while.

Do you think it's to late to change the shpping to Fedex?

I ordered using thier very high $90 shipping because I was running out of time last night. If I set up a Fedex account now, then call them to change, will my order count as a Today order instead of yeaterday...??

Thank you

Awesome, Kwad. I keep seeing more and more posts that would lead me to believe the Holiday and Earlybird rebates will, in fact, be honored.

This is definitely the Best Deal Ever? if all 5 rebates come through.

Anyone know what the chances of standard PC800 RDRAM to overclock to PC1066. I have
a bunch of PC800 stuff...

Will the system even boot with PC800?

NASA, WE HAVE CONFIRMATION.

the ship date doesn;t bother me too much, dec 15, becuase i am out of the country dec 12-26, and i have till jan 15 for some of the rebates.

now how to explain another comp.

Chances are that this Dell, like the 4550, uses SPD to determine the memory speed which means PC800 rdram is going to run at PC800, even if in an overclockable motherboard it could do PC1066.

Did you order some parts that were on backorder or something?

My ship date is 12/4/02 as of right now, although I expect that it will ship sooner than that...

Other than the base components I added:

40X CD-RW
120GB HDD (8MB Special Edition)
ATI 9700 TX

No Black Friday for me this year (unless I see a really good deal on some RDRAM 1066 =) I think that this deal will destroy anything I could find Friday morning....

Did this work for anyone completely? I doubt that it will not get in the way of those other rebates..... Humm.....

Wait, you could only get one per customer, or atleast one that would use the rebates, other's at full price? How would they know?

2 free RIMM slots... they have to go in pairs though... which sucks

I hope you're right about the 2 free slots (4 slots total). If that is the case, and you have two systems ( or you and a buddy), one of the systems can get all 4 of the 128mb sticks for a total of 512mb (but no longer expandable) - estimated worth of the 2 128mb sticks = ~$100. Buy 2 256mb sticks for ~$200 to put into the second system for a total of 512mb (but this system still has two free slots for future expandability). Net cost for each system is about $100 (remember, hopefully you're getting a $170 rebate). Net worth is a bit higher for the system with the expandability possiblity, so adjust costs accordingly.

Here are the Dell RIMM specs:

Dual Channel PC1066 RDRAM® - 128 MB upgradable to 1.5 GB

RDRAM® memory is Dual Channel, 4 RIMM slots (populated in pairs)

I already recieved my first system. Ordered on Nov 22, shipped on Nov 24 (estimated was Dec 2), recieved on Nov 27. I shipped it via the $90 UPS, didn't know it was so easy to open a shipping account at the time. Anyway, yes it does have 4 RIMM slots total. Since I got it with 2x128MB modules, there are 2 free slots.

Also, just got off the phone with a CSR. I asked about ordering multiple systems (I ordered a second one lastnight, same as first but with a 9700TX instead of GF4 Ti4200), and this CSR says that it won't be a problem for rebates (yes, I did the the CSR's info). Also, do NOT use a photocopy of your packing slip, it has a very high chance of being rejected. Request an invoice sent via email and print copies of that (they send you a nice pdf of your invoice). The CSR put me on hold and sent it to me, and I actually got the email before I got off the phone with her.

Now...time to go get these rebates taken care of.

No, this order was placed before they started offering the 9700TX. It has the GF4 Ti4200. The second system I ordered has a 9700TX in it, but I won't get that for a while.
